I saw a nice top whilst out today, and i do like it alot, but i would also want a white pair of jeans to go with them. I like the top a lot, but i am not sure about paying £35 for it. I am trying to save for rent in advance and a deposit, but it looks like the council will have to house me. I am going for a family meal on sunday as well and have nothing to wear.

Is £35 a stupid amount to spend on a top? And should i just get a different colour to avoid buying a new pair of jeans?

Think i really need someone to say, no buy it for yourself...but doubt you will. Talk me into/ out of it please. So undecided!

Do NOT whatever you do buy white jeans.

If you do not have many clothes you will wear them too often and they will be grey in a fortnight.

Get a cheaper new top to go with your old jeans.

hermionestranger · 22/02/2012 20:51

Why not sell your old stuff on ebay? That's what I did when I dropped two sizes (shameless stealth boast Grin) and spend that on new clothes from the outlets on there. Otherwise stay the hell away from the shops.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/02/2012 20:51

Focus on saving for a deposit and then any left over can be spent on stuff.

Good luck

MyLittleMiracle · 22/02/2012 20:52

I can keep looking. I have only spent about 5 pounds today, mothers day gift 99p, a couple of shower gels, and some stain remover....hardly extravegance! Got to get some food tomorrow too.

Tracksuit bottoms for the gym???

MyLittleMiracle · 22/02/2012 20:54

Oh and god knows i know what you need to survive, and being able to cook is one of them. I know i shouldnt spend a tenner on a ring, BUT how the hell would i afford saucepans out of M&S They are ridiculous prices!

@ warren Wink

TattyDevine · 22/02/2012 20:54

Buy it, wear it with a top underneath, don't spill anything on it, send it back, I guess? There are worse crimes...

(Disclaimer: I've never actually done this)

squeakytoy · 22/02/2012 20:56

mothers day is a month away...

I know who you are (not going to out you.. although most others know who you are too...).. and it is pointless giving you any advice really.. Confused

If your mother has rusty saucepans, tell your mother to buy new saucepans...

PoohBearsHole · 22/02/2012 20:56

About the boat btw

hatesponge · 22/02/2012 20:57

Your priority has to be saving for a deposit. I know it's difficult when you don't have much by way of clothes, never spend any money on yourself etc BUT just think of it this way that could be another £35 you are closer to a home for you and your DC. Short term pain for long term gain :)

If you really need new clothes, then Primark/Charity shops are your best bet. Or boot sales when the season starts - one near me was selling clothes (decent stuff, M&S, New Look etc) for 25p/30p an item last summer. And the feeling I get from a proper bargain is much better than the remorse of overspending on the High St.

Might also be worth looking on Freecycle or similar, I've seen people giving away bags of clothes before. Even if you only got a couple of suitable things out of a bag that's better than nothing surely?

PoohBearsHole · 22/02/2012 20:57

Op I have no idea who you are.

If that helps

Rudawakening · 22/02/2012 20:58

Don't buy it fgs get a home first.

Also 'track suit bottoms for the gym' if you pay gym membership cancel that too. You would be able to buy the top and then save more every month.

The problem is, by family, its me mum sister, partner, lisa claire and max, lisa claire and mum are size 8's and my sister is a 16/18 and i am a 12! I hate being in the middle, and not being able to nick off anyone! Its infuriating. So hard starting again....fifth home lucky? Suppose its just waiting and saving. I have been being so good. An occasional bar of chocolate though....but come on little luxuries are needed especially after solicitors appointment etc.

Ok, I think people are being a little harsh op.

I agree that you shouldn't be spending anything ATM, even on saucepan and certainly not new clothes. However, I do think you are acting out of anxiety at your current situation. You recognise that and good for you for doing so.

You do need to focus on getting you housing situation sorted first and foremost though. Keep your head and don't buy things you don't need. There will be plenty of time for that once you have accommodation in place.

How many times have you been here complaining that your ex is stalking you? ANd how many times again have you been advised to stop using peoples real names as it makes it all too easy for him to do? Really OP, you need to help yourself.

stifnstav · 22/02/2012 21:01

Homeless and paying gym membership?

New saucepan was used last night by your mum but its also in a friend's loft?

Cancel the gym, cos going up and down loftladders for your saucepan will keep you fit instead.

2ombie5layer · 22/02/2012 21:01

myname how do you work out who someone is?

Sorry to hijack there OP

MyLittleMiracle · 22/02/2012 21:02

PS, I got a free gym membership, its called activity on referral, or step to health, and is free or 12 weeks from the doctor for my PND! Always worth getting. And before anyone says the chilare costs! I dont pay any, me and a friend go together and her dad takes us and sits in the car while we are in there, looking after the kids, though the lockers do cost 20p a time, and we go three times a week but only use one between us.....30pence a week isnt too bad!
