Ok, so I'm the last person in the world to see the fiolm (last night) and I haven't read the books, but I enjoyed the (ludicrous) film. What does everyone hate so much? And why is it sexist?

its alll about a girl hankering after a man and not pursuing her own dreams , the said man is dead and sparkles and wants to bite her Confused , I hate twilight with a passion its rubbish I managed to see the first film have no interest in the rest dd2 loves it , I just dont see the attraction of an obviously depressed teenager and her obsession with the undead , Grin

nowittynamehere · 21/02/2012 10:30

and in my day vampires were proper vampires they would be reduced to ash in daylight unliek the cullens who can go out ,

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:31

Read the book... It's amazing. I got a little obsessed with Edward too. The film just doesn't do it justice...

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:32

And it's peoples opinions!! I loved it people hate it.... But like marmite! Grin

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:32

Bit not but Angry

Bucharest · 21/02/2012 10:33

I hate it because it's so dreadfully badly written.

And because after buying into the hype and ordering all 3 (or is it 4? I never read the last one anyway) I was mad at myself for taking up bookshelf space with such drivel.

nowittynamehere · 21/02/2012 10:33

maybe i should borrow my dds books and judge for myself , dd did say the last film was a bit rubbish and she is more team jacob now he is a lovely looking young man , Rpatz is a bit dull imo

nowittynamehere · 21/02/2012 10:34

Like not LIEK Blush

Hullygully · 21/02/2012 10:34

But that's the thing...it's about VAMPIRES it does demand a certain suspension of the norms of belief. (Tho I agree about not proper vampires, even tho the sparkles were dead pretty).

OP posts:
nowittynamehere · 21/02/2012 10:37

I am more an anne rice girl myself and i cant get past Louis in interview with a vampire he was just Beautiful Its for a new generation vampires are always going to be sexy and mysterious arnt they , and i suppose the sparkles were pretty ,

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:37

The books weren't badly written!! I don't know how people can slate them that much!! She's got MILLIONS of fans who have read and loved the books. Fair enough if you didn't enjoy them. But you can't say they aren't very good!

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:38

Honestly nowitty!! They are brill. Give them a read!! I love Anne Rice too! And Charlene Harris. She's brill! Smile

Bucharest · 21/02/2012 10:40

Er, yes I can.

In the same way that Dan Browne is badly written, and in the same way that JK could have done with some hefty editing and proofreading once she got to Book 5 (but by then she was untouchable and no-one dared tell her to lose a couple of hundred pages)

Having millions of fans doesn't make it well-written. Well-hyped, I'll give you.

nowittynamehere · 21/02/2012 10:41

liamsmumm can i bypass twilight cos ive seen the film and go onto the 2nd book , i am open to being convinced different Grin

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:42

Hahaha ok then! Dan brown?? Really!! JK? Orate then!

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:44

Nowitty - No no!! Don't bypass!! That's the book that will get you addicted to Edward! I was actually not able to put them books down! I'm going to have to read them again! Right now in fact! Lol Smile

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 21/02/2012 10:48

Have watched 3 out of the 4 films. Even though they are crap. I spent most of my time wanting to slap Bella, miserable bloody teenager.

Bit of a guilty pleasure really, they are awful but kind of in a so bad it's good sort of way.

Hullygully · 21/02/2012 10:50

Oooo I didn't know there were more films! How exciting.

Yy Bella is miserable, but she does have a lot to cope with.

I like the Cullen family.

They are ok but I like their house more. Not sure I would like to keep all the windows clean though.

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 10:55

The films really don't do it any justice!! Bella does my head in with all her 'umming' and -'arrring'. And she gets to be with rpats in 'real life' too :(

Hullygully · 21/02/2012 10:59

dd has the books, but I can't read them if they are badly written.

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiiLand · 21/02/2012 11:05

Hahaha ok then! Dan brown?? Really!! JK? Orate then!

What does that mean? Do you think Dan Brown is a good writer?

Hully you need to read the books to get the real picture of the misogyny and Edward's horrible nature. It is like a Womans Aid 'avoid this type of git' advert.

The film is all right, I think. I especially like the Billy Bob Thornton lookimg dad. I saw it before I read the books. I had to read them all as some kind of sick masochistic pleasure! Grin

sozzledchops · 21/02/2012 11:09

I'm not a fan, haven't read the books but have watched the first three movies. It's the kind of thing I might have been into when I was about 15 or so (plus always wanted to be a vampire)' just so much teenage angst, it's quite badly done. Bella is a terrible, pathetic heroine, such a bad role model in a girl who will do anything for a hot boy.

now to watch the other two movies, as you were.

LiamsMummyJaz · 21/02/2012 11:10

They are not badly written.

And getorf I was disagreeing with her. Dan Brown is a great writer.
