I can stand when people blaspheme and say Ch* as if its a swear word do people think its cool?? People say they are tolerant of peoples faith but situations like that make me wonder I literally wince when people say it. I refuse to believe I ABU

OP posts:
LeBeauReve · 20/02/2012 20:37

No you are not, I can't bear it either, it actually makes me cringe when I hear someone use it.

ImperialBlether · 20/02/2012 20:39

Do you mean you can stand or you can't stand it?

What I really hate is "Oh my fucking god." Now that really is unnecessary.

fiventhree · 20/02/2012 20:39

Me either, and I am not even religious. One of my older kids says it alot, and I am really on the warpath to stop it. And anyway, it's disrespectful around people who are Christians. I support women's rights, and I wouldn't accept sweary comments about women, so why should others accept offensive remarks like that?

NeldaAufwader · 20/02/2012 20:39

What's ch?

.

winnybella · 20/02/2012 20:39

Dunno, I always took it as an appeal to Christ in an especially exasperating situation iyswim. Doesn't seem so bad to me, tbh.
I come from a very Catholic country and everyone says it Hmm

EirikurNoromaour · 20/02/2012 20:40

YABU

SoupDragon · 20/02/2012 20:40

"I refuse to believe I ABU"

Oh good. Well, this is going to be a little pointless then isn't it?

loulu55 · 20/02/2012 20:41

I'm a christian and it hurts me to hear that as a swear word. I was brought up in a non christian home (wondeful home but non christian) and my father would say that and J all the time. I don't think most non christians have a clue that what they are saying actually means something very precious to christians. It's mainly ignorance.

AmyGarumi · 20/02/2012 20:43

I'm not religious, but feel uncomfortable when I hear it too.

Fenton was funny though.

smoggii · 20/02/2012 20:43

I thought the point of swear words was to offend...

Technodad · 20/02/2012 20:45

Jesus Christ you are NBU at all. I mean for god sake, people just don't know how to swear nowadays.

MuslinSuit · 20/02/2012 20:46

I too thought of Fenton Grin

Sorry OP

Sockspence · 20/02/2012 20:47

do you mean chav? Confused

SuchProspects · 20/02/2012 20:48

YANBU to be upset by it. But YABU to conflate tolerance and respect. People who tolerate others' faith do not necessarily respect it. They merely think it's fine for you to live your life according to your beliefs. They probably expect you to tolerate them living their lives according to their own beliefs, which may not include avoiding blasphemy.

nagynolonger · 20/02/2012 20:48

There really is no reason to use the word Christ. It is offensive and there are plenty of other words to use.

DinahMoHum · 20/02/2012 20:49

FENTONNNNNNNN

RoughShooting · 20/02/2012 20:49

I can't stand it when people make stupid mistakes in their thread titles.

toddlerama · 20/02/2012 20:50

It's horribly rude. If I used 'Mohammed' as a swear word, people would rightly be shocked. Swearing generally is supposed to offend though isn't it. Are all expletives swear words or rooted in them? I can't think of one that isn't.

HaveYouTakenLeaveOfYourCervix · 20/02/2012 20:51

I don't mind it and use it (and am a signed up church going religious type). Its better than saying cunt.

.

FabbyChic · 20/02/2012 20:51

Each to their own, my son uses it all the time, I never hear him say fuck, count, bollocks or shit though.

He is an Athiest. I would never call him on it he is an adult.

nagynolonger · 20/02/2012 20:52

You have never made a mistake Rough?!

bejeezus · 20/02/2012 20:52

I say both the ch word and J A LOT.

I often say Ch* on a bike

Have often thought I probably was causing offence to someone

I don't get what's so bad about saying Jesus or Christ. They aren't swear words and I'm pretty sure Christians use them a lot too... It could be seen as a very concise mini-prayer; a sort of appeal for help.

Haziedoll · 20/02/2012 20:54

I think you will have to accept that you are likely to spend a lot of time feeling offended then.
