to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:32

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

BBC post is back
but PLEASE FOLKS
Tesco are just one of many.
We have to hit ALL of them to make the scheme grind to a halt.
Open this page www.boycottworkfare.org/?page_id=16
in one tab
and facebook in the other
and work your way down the list
if the negative posts swamp the positive
ALL the companies will have to consider their positions before Monday.
Go for it ladies .....

Glitterknickaz · 17/02/2012 22:53

I have had a go at targetting ASDA but you can't post on their wall for some bizarre reason

molepom · 17/02/2012 22:55

No, but you can post on their comments.

Glitterknickaz · 17/02/2012 22:55

like the ironing board that will give you so much more time to go on your workfare placement? Grin

Glitterknickaz · 17/02/2012 23:01

Ok done a few more. Wonder how long my comments on the Argos page will stand it looked a little pristine.

Devora · 17/02/2012 23:03

I'm so glad to see this thread. I was outraged by this - that WE (taxpayers) are paying Tesco to force people into unpaid work, therefore allowing them not to create proper jobs Angry

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 23:04

have a look at the everybody section of ARGOS .....
a few posts there !

DorisIsWaiting · 17/02/2012 23:11

Ummm argos yes been there Wink

Asda looks very pristine particularly as you can't post to their wall (or at least I couldn't)

TapselteerieO · 17/02/2012 23:14

Off to look at fb stuff now.

TapselteerieO · 17/02/2012 23:18

if any of you would like to drop a polite, constructive email to Philip Clarke, the chief executive of Tesco (wage £6,900,000 a year), his email address is [email protected] .

Tesco currently save £11,000,000 a year by not paying wages to the people who are on this workfare scheme.

TapselteerieO · 17/02/2012 23:19

I lifted that from fb - sorry in my haste to post I didn't put quotation marks etc.

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 23:21

Asda is getting less pristine by the minute
as are Superdrug, Boots, Barnardos, Maplins, and the rest of the &&&&&&&

carernotasaint · 17/02/2012 23:23

Heads up people Owen Jones is gonna be on Radio Five Live any min now.
He mentioned workfare on QT last night so you never know.......

LadyPeter · 17/02/2012 23:32

SOrry if this has already been said: a friend sent me a link to the Tesco workfare night-shift job advertised through the job seeker site it has now been taken down so all the negative publicity is having an impact. I have just emailed [email protected] to tell him I will be boycotting his stores until they stop participating in this scheme. I suggest everyone does the same.

peekabooby · 17/02/2012 23:43

Edwina Currie Shock

peekabooby · 17/02/2012 23:44

That is better Grin

I just got this response to my post on tesco's facebook page. Anyone care to comment:

Tesco
Hi **,

Jobcentre Plus yesterday wrongly advertised a short work experience placement at Tesco as a permanent, unpaid job. This has resulted in widespread misunderstanding of our position. We are happy to re-state the facts:

  • Tesco has been working in partnership with JobCentre Plus for many months to offer work experience opportunities lasting up to four weeks for young unemployed people who are struggling to find jobs. No one is under any obligation to take part in the scheme, and JobCentre Plus has assured us that all of those who have come to Tesco have done so as volunteers. Tesco would not take part in any mandatory scheme. This is all about helping young people who want to find a job.
  • We would never offer longer term work on an unpaid basis. The Department for Work and Pensions has acknowledged that the advertisement was an error on the part of JobCentre Plus. Work experience at Tesco should, wherever possible, be a pathway to a paid job with Tesco. That has already been the case for 300 work experience participants with us so far and we hope it will be for many more people.
  • We understand the concern that those who stay in the scheme longer than a week risk losing their benefits if they drop out before the end of their placement. We have suggested to DWP that, to avoid any misunderstanding about the voluntary nature of the scheme, this threat of losing benefit should be removed.

We remain committed to offering long-term, sustainable and rewarding paths into employment for thousands of young people.

Thanks
Jade-Customer Care

Glitterknickaz · 17/02/2012 23:53

Oh no, Edwina's not being a twat is she?

Glitterknickaz · 17/02/2012 23:54

LadyPeter they copied & pasted that so many times, it's a stock reply

thismumismad · 17/02/2012 23:56

I put a link to this thread on the tesco fb page, and it went poof tee hee

LadyPeter · 17/02/2012 23:57

So, will Tesco withdraw from the scheme if the threat of sanctions is not removed??

LadyPeter · 17/02/2012 23:58

yes, I know it's a stock reply but is it true?

garlicfrother · 18/02/2012 00:08

We have suggested to DWP that, to avoid any misunderstanding about the voluntary nature of the scheme, this threat of losing benefit should be removed. - Well, if they change that suggestion to a demand, it's a definite step in the right direction. A volunteer is not a volunteer if they're under threat!

They should also be asking the 'volunteers' themselves if they want to be there, not trusting DWP smoke'n'mirrors.

LadyPeter · 18/02/2012 00:16

ok so TEsco have just blocked me for asking if they will withdraw from the scheme if the threat of sanctions is not dropped by the DWP. So the stock response def is a load of bs

minimathsmouse · 18/02/2012 00:18

If that is Tescos response how would they explain this way, is this an IT mistake?
