to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:32

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

Signed. And actual Shock face at what I'm reading here.

molepom · 17/02/2012 10:20

link to Pat's petition which also comes under these reforms, the welfare bill is a farce and if anyone watched Freud in the house of Lords the other day would have actually seem him say that he has no idea about what a lot of these changes mean, he's constantly stammering, umming and erring and withholds opions on policies that get taken to shreds in the HOL on a regular basis because he dosn't know what he's talking about.

molepom · 17/02/2012 10:31

On bbc Newsnight lastnight there was an announcement for 28,000 prisoners to be put into paid employment, followed closely by the mention of the disabled and termanilly ill will have to go on workfare or face loosing their benefits.

Now think about this...you deemed not fit to work by health professionals and yet you have to work to claim what little esa you do get, thus inadvertantly forcing you onto JSA as you have been on a workfare placement. Nearly 3 million people are out of work at this current moment in time (or just over, will get figures right in a minute), add to that the number of people being forced to work in jobs that should be paid and the number of people who will be transfered onto JSA over time...there are not enough jobs for abled bodied people as it is and we all know how this is going to turn out.

People think Thacher was bad, Scameron puts her to shame.

This policy goes directly of human rights on the Direct gov's own site here

molepom · 17/02/2012 10:33

Oh and one more thing before I get off my soapbox for a little while....

JSA claiments have a time limit on how long they have to do workfare for..

When the disabled for forced to do this, there is NO time limit for them and no plans for any.

minimathsmouse · 17/02/2012 10:36

Just checked the e petition epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/29356 and from yesterday afternoon there have been over 1500 new signitures.

If this government has an over arching plan I'd like to know what it is because right now I can't help thinking Hitler would be proud of this lot.

Victimising and exploiting societies weakest and most vulnerable. We are one step away from dehumanising these people entirely.

KateSpade · 17/02/2012 10:38

I couldnt agree more Molepom we need to get the government out

I think we should start somekind of petition or something that they'll take notice of a bit more, using mumsnet as it's got more power than just a group of voices,

i doubt Mumsnet official's will allow that, but

minimathsmouse · 17/02/2012 10:41

Human rights act states "Freedom from slavery and forced Labour"

No wonder the conservatives are trying to replace the human rights act with a British bill of rights.

molepom · 17/02/2012 10:46

"Oh and by the way Tesco facebook have blocked me for politely speaking the truth and asking some questions - brilliant PR - very Middle East - block the dissent
I aked if their selling of "fair trade produce" related to their employment pracitice
So please all go to Tesco facebook and rain down on them!"

Taken from a quote in comments section in The Guardian

Fancy it anyone?

KateSpade · 17/02/2012 10:48

I will have a gander over when i get home from work,

Yes, i am aware i am on Mumsnet, but None of the bosses are in, so relax day Wink

youarekidding · 17/02/2012 10:51

Well, thankyou MNers I have just had a real education.

My first thought when I read a link was it was good work experience, learning time management, life around a job etc etc.

however reading this thread I have totally changed my mind. I can't believe instead of employing 1 person FT and paying the NMW a store like Tesco will employ up to 6 people (over a year) to do the job on work experience on JSA.

People do need work experience, but Tesco etc do not need free labour.

And my biggest Shock of the whole scheme is that it takes money out of our 'pot' JSA, payment to companies for employment, when employing someone puts money back into it (tax/NI).

I would have thought the back to work scheme would be benficial if used properly. For example if someone wants to work in admin. They do the back to work scheme for 8 weeks, there is a position there because companies should only be allowed staff for actual open positions. At the end of the period the job is advertised and the intern can apply. It should then be filled (external or intern). The company should not then be allowed to use free labour.

minimathsmouse · 17/02/2012 10:56

I have just posted on the Tesco Face book page "Are Tesco going to continue to exploit free labour?"
I wonder how long this will remain of their wall before someone takes it down.

minimathsmouse · 17/02/2012 10:57

It took less than a minute, poof!

molepom · 17/02/2012 10:58

lol

minimathsmouse · 17/02/2012 11:02

www.facebook.com/tesco?sk=friendactivity although I have challenged a friend about shopping with Tesco Smile

dikkertjedap · 17/02/2012 11:06

Only just came across this. How absolutely utterly outrageous of these stores to do this and even more for the government to dream this up. This destroys employment, especially if a store can use these schemes for up to 6 months. People who have become unemployed having to work in their same job again but now unpaid. What an utter utter disgrace! What a terrible society we are living in, lots of people forced to scrape the bottom of the barrel with the 'top' of society enriching itself beyond comprehension. Awful.

dikkertjedap · 17/02/2012 11:09

Have signed the e-petition.

alistron1 · 17/02/2012 11:20

So, under to coalition we have had the tuition fee hike, the attempt to dismantle the NHS, the running of schools for profit, the attack on the disabled, the change to the WTC threshold, changes to housing benefit, attack on public sector pensions AND workfare.

Seriously, are people still on board with these pillocks who are SHAFTING this country and 99% of the electorate??

And we keep hearing in the news how well paid people in public sector organisations (eg the student loans company) are utilising loopholes to pay less tax than they should be. In addition to the tax avoidance by big companies.

They've only been in for 18 months. By the end of their term this country will be ruined. It's not back to the 80's this is a return to Dickensian conditions.

Tiredmumno1 · 17/02/2012 11:26

I also added to their wall, asking when they would abolish, and considering its all over the news, twitter, fb and other forums, people would like an answer. It took 30 seconds to be removed Grin they must think people are stupid

Tiredmumno1 · 17/02/2012 11:28

Can a petition be started to get these stupid idiots out (Cameron and clegg)

Tiredmumno1 · 17/02/2012 11:30

Ooo hang on my post may still be there somewhere on fb, but I can't see, however my notifications are telling me people like it Confused

minimathsmouse · 17/02/2012 11:38

I had two thumbs up when I checked.

If the Human rights act states a persons freedom from forced labour and slavery, does this mean that those people affected by this could take a group action through the courts. Would they be entitled to legal aid.

molepom · 17/02/2012 11:38

Tired mummy, they've blocked you. As they have with a few others who expresed their feeling or asked questions.

molepom · 17/02/2012 11:39

No mimi, legal aid has had some heavy losses recently. I doubt most groups will be entitled now.

TunipTheVegemal · 17/02/2012 11:41

signed the e-petition.

this is going to be about as popular as the Poll Tax, I think. At this rate Labour won't even have to sort themselves out, they will win next time purely because of rage about this kind of thing.

molepom · 17/02/2012 11:42

here's a good article.
