Aibu to think dog ownership should be abolished?

I am sure dogs bring great pleasure to their owners.

But why should the pet owners right to pleasure be greater than my right to walk down a street that is not all littered in dog poo of all shapes colour and state of decay?

Judging by the amount, I would think there is NO SUCH THING as responsible dog owners and that they just all let their pooches poop wherever they fancy.
To put it mildly, our school run is really crap.

Agreed.

Gonzo33 · 10/02/2012 15:51

That is not fair, responsible owners do clear up after their dogs. Now cats, well that is a completely different issue.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/02/2012 15:52

Yabu - complain more about getting the council to police it adequately.

I always pick the poo up obviously - my Springers bright but he can't do that himself Grin

Distended · 10/02/2012 15:53

Then what happens to all the dogs out there?

QuintessentialyHollow · 10/02/2012 15:53

So, now the tax payer need to fund somebody to police it better?! Shock

Not only do dog owners have the right to walk around with their dogs and let them poo everywhere, the onus should be on ME, the NON-DOG owner to get the council spend money on policing dog owners! You are joking....

I too am exasperated by the amount of shit that is on the streets around my home. My 3yr old DS stood in one only 10 minutes ago. I'm pretty left wing, but hanging is too good for these filthy owners.

I'm going to petition our council to take these measures:

Al0uisee · 10/02/2012 15:54

Responsible dog owners do exist but obviously we don't leave any evidence. Perhaps if we put a little flag up where the poo once was you would be aware of our existence.

Dog owners hate seeing dog mess on the pavement more than anyone, it makes us part of a group we have no wish to belong to.

Microchip/dna combination should wipe out the irresponsible owners overnight.

That won't stop dogs existing. So who will pick up the poo when no one is responsible for them?

Foxes aren't owned as pets and around here they poo all over the place and it's just left because its no one's responsibility.

I think you need to think of a better plan.

Well I think you could do a lot of abolishing to make our lives nicer. Cats, litter droppers, people who drive smelly gaz-guzzling cars, people who live in terraced house and own more than one car, binge-drinkers, smokers, people who play their music too loudly....there are so many things. We could have a abolition-frenzy! Just pick your particular pet-hate and demand it's abolition... yay!

JParkson · 10/02/2012 15:58

yabu

Lynch the cats that shit deposit their mess in my garden instead

ChickensGoMeh · 10/02/2012 15:58

Well, cats also shit everywhere and there isn't even a law which says they shouldn't. Get rid of dogs, get rid of cats. And horses. They leave ginormous piles of shit. Also foxes. And don't get me started on birds, filthy bastards.

QuintessentialyHollow · 10/02/2012 15:58

It is amazing how there is always fresh poo after drop off in the morning, when parents have tied their pooches (or not tied them, as not all are on a leach) during drop off. A double drop off that is. Sad

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 10/02/2012 15:59

No, dog owners DO NOT have the right to walk around and let their dogs shit everywhere Hmm

Yes, it is up to US the tax-payers to put pressure on councillors if there is a problem. Tell your local councillors - it should be properly policed and those FUCKERS who don't pick up should pay. That's what we have fines for.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 10/02/2012 15:59

I am with alouisee might start putting little flags up when I pick up dog poo.

Although to the person who let their dog crap outside my drive and DIDNT pick it up; if I ever find out where you live with your dog I am going to post a GSD sized poo through your letter box!

I dont mind scooping my dogs poop, I DO mind picking up someone else's dogs crap. Angry

QuintessentialyHollow · 10/02/2012 15:59

I think it is fairly easy to spot the difference between cat and dog poo. One thing is the size, another pooping behaviour. Dogs will sit down to crap justabout anywhere. Cats wont. They like their privacy, and usually do it in peoples gardens, and needless to say, I dont trample down peoples gardens on the school run.

The link below, has people with night vision glasses and sniper guns. Interesting.

ditavonteesed · 10/02/2012 16:02

it isnt dog killing thread day again already, it cant be, we only hafd one on sunday.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/02/2012 16:02

They have dog shit wardens round here.

I don't think that's their official title though Grin

OrmIrian · 10/02/2012 16:03

Poo flags are a good idea! Mine will say 'This poop was scooped by Ormirian. Have a nice day :)'

mrshess · 10/02/2012 16:03

what about horse poo? that is usually on streets etc , if you ban dog ownership that wont stop poo being everywhere

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 10/02/2012 16:04

I'm a dog owner but agree with you to some extent. It is disgusting but there will always be irresponsible people, dog owners, parents, you name it. Though dogs are more of a luxury than children, obviously.

I should point out that my dog likes his privacy when having a cr@p and always goes deep into the bushes at the back of our garden, making it as difficult as possible for us to pick it up! (We do, though - I promise.)
