Aibu to think dog ownership should be abolished?

I am sure dogs bring great pleasure to their owners.

But why should the pet owners right to pleasure be greater than my right to walk down a street that is not all littered in dog poo of all shapes colour and state of decay?

Judging by the amount, I would think there is NO SUCH THING as responsible dog owners and that they just all let their pooches poop wherever they fancy.
To put it mildly, our school run is really crap.

I've never put my hand in a dogshit while weeding. Much worse finding a catshit that way than poo on a shoe. Urgh.

Fox shit. Who's supposed to pick that up? That smells far more repulsive than my beautiful baby's!

TwllBach · 10/02/2012 16:09

I've mentioned it before, but I'll do it again-

What about sheep? Theres tons of sheep shit round here, and you often don't notice it till too late.

Actually, rabbits and hares are pretty damn shitty too.

lovelydogs · 10/02/2012 16:11

I'm about to venture out into the snow with old broom and washing up bowl of hot water to scrub away the enourmous pile of shit outside my gate that looks like it has been repeatedly trodden in. I'm tempted to stick a camera from the upstairs window to record who the hell is letting their dog do this, it's not the first time. Or maybe a polite sign on the gate. I have dogs and I'm convinced everyone thinks it's me!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/02/2012 16:12

Dogs eat meat. Sheep, rabbits, horses etc don't. You can't catch anything from their poo and it doesn't stink either.

hiddenhome · 10/02/2012 16:13

Hands are easier to wash than shoes Grin

We have a field at the end of our street. A pleasant, quiet place, not scrubland, but properly grassed with trees etc. People park their cars, let their dogs out of the car to run around and shit on this grass then let them back in the car and drive away Sad

This grass is where my children play as our garden is too small Angry I shout at the people when I catch them and I'm going to put laminated notices up this spring. I'd rather have a hand full of catshit than dogshit all over my children's clothes and shoes Sad

littlemissnormal · 10/02/2012 16:15

There's a man in our town who walks round with a can of bright spray paint and sprays all of the dog poos so they are easily seen.

I pick my dogs up and can't understand why if you're blatantly not going to pick up up, at least make your dog poo in the road so people are less likely to step in it.

hiddenhome · 10/02/2012 16:16

I like the idea of spraying it a bright colour.

hiddenhome · 10/02/2012 16:18

An old woman at the end of our street used to blatantly let her dog out to shit on the small patch of grass by the side of the pavement. My children used to walk along that area on their way to school. I reported her to the council and she got rid of the dog.

OffMeTrolley · 10/02/2012 16:19

i wish kids could be abolished between the hours i need to shop! :)

QuintessentialyHollow · 10/02/2012 16:22

"I pick my dogs up and can't understand why if you're blatantly not going to pick up up, at least make your dog poo in the road so people are less likely to step in it."

Or let your dog wear nappies.

Or not be allowed to have a dog.

I have a friend who sticks flags in dog poos in our park and outside her house etc. They have messages on them shaming the owner of the dogs who leave them there. It seems to have eradicated the problem almost instantly. Grin

QuintessentialyHollow · 10/02/2012 16:27

I think I might do the same.

What could it say.

"Sorry, I am a dog, I need to poo, blame my owner who should pick up after me!"

"My owner is really irresponsible, you should see where they put their crap"

any other ones?

If you're going to own a dog then I think you should be obliged to have them microchipped, insured and have their dna registered. If the shit is proven to belong to your dog, then you should have to pay a fine and pay for the cost of the dna test.

Dolcelatte · 10/02/2012 16:29

Not another of these posts - Yawn!

hiddenhome · 10/02/2012 16:29

'My owner is a lazy, brainless moron who shouldn't be permitted to keep a dog'?

hiddenhome · 10/02/2012 16:30

It might be boring to you dolcellate, but I'd love my kids to be able to play football on that field Sad

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 10/02/2012 16:30

Dog shit is much more toxic and dangerous than horse though. Or rabbit, indeed.

QuintessentialyHollow · 10/02/2012 16:32

Letting your dogs poo everywhere is really selfish.

OP posts:
Dolcelatte · 10/02/2012 16:33

So how do you think posting another of these tedious threads on MN is going to achieve that?

QuintessentialyHollow · 10/02/2012 16:34

Dolcelatte, what do you suggest will help?

It has already helped me. I have found a form to complain at the council website, I have used it, and I will make flags to put in dog poops!

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 10/02/2012 16:35

Go on then Dolcellate, post a thread that's so supremely interesting, it draws people away from this one Hmm

hiddenhome · 10/02/2012 16:37

I'm going to start spraying the dog shit on the field a bright colour and make up those laminated notices to put on the streetlight Smile See, it is helping people.
