Oh god, now I want Y4NBU too! Grin

Strawbezza · 09/02/2012 00:11

Y4NBU is already in use! So which Mumsnetter's got that?

cakeismysaviour · 09/02/2012 00:20

You'll have to get Y4BU instead, Strawbezza. Grin

Strawbezza · 09/02/2012 00:29

cake I'd like that even better Grin but that's not a recognised format... needs another letter on the end which would make it meaningless Sad

Y4BVU is £405 on the DVLA website Grin

They are not pointless - they are a tax on the vain.

Strawbezza · 09/02/2012 00:33

cake I think we're proving that personalised number plates aren't pointless Grin

So the OP is the one who's BVU.

Strawbezza · 09/02/2012 00:35

Biscuit yes, a tax on the vain - and a tax on those fitting Y4BVU who wish to put a smile on some unknown Mumsnetter's face Grin

cakeismysaviour · 09/02/2012 00:36

Exactly!

I wish... Grin

Strawbezza · 09/02/2012 00:40

I am sooooooo tempted to click 'buy' on Y4BVU

Maybe tomorrow.... if cake hasn't got there first!

cakeismysaviour · 09/02/2012 00:42

Go for it! DP would kill me if I bought it. :(

BleatingRose · 09/02/2012 00:45

I see lots, oddest ones are

H15 Ego Confused

and GhostDa - I have never seen anyone in the car [twilight zone music]

also CLA55Y Grin

RacquetHandle · 09/02/2012 00:50

My number plate always reminds me of MN, because the letters look like whiffy fanjo... can't get it out of my head!

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 09/02/2012 02:33

Grin @ Y4BVU.

In my country, you don't have to have any numbers in them and you can have just a few letters so the permutations are much greater.

I remember when they first came out someone saying that they were yet to see one that made them think more of the owner and that about sums up my feelings.

They're for display; that's their whole point - for other people to look at. Seems weird, then, to get on your high horse when people draw conclusions get judgy about them. Grin

I like the not obvious ones, something like initials and a memorable number together which comply with the normal registration plate system (old style and new style).

I am actually surprised at the comments here. In Germany more or less everyone chooses their registration plate. The first 1-3 letters state the area you live in, but the rest can be chosen, so you see many with their birthdays / initials / good number combinations etc..

Fuzzywuzzywozabear · 09/02/2012 06:38

The only one I've ever seen that I liked was on a Hillman Imp - the chap who owned it used to do Imp's up as a hobby - the numberplate was "IMP1"

Well there's only one thing more twatty than a personalised number plate and that's one that doesn't even apply to me you as it came with the car!

It could have come with the car as it's, say X5, or A3 or whatever. Unless you mean something else by apply to me you? Confused

I don't think it's great that my car has one, I wouldn't have bought it, but I'm not about to go faddling around with registration documents just because some internet folk think I'm a Twat/Chav/' screamingly nouveau riche Hmm

I can be a twat actually, but it has nowt to do with my number plate :o

Lulumama · 09/02/2012 11:25

@ Ariel- because it is a surname that other people have, so therefore it is still desirable and every so often DH checks the value and tries to persuade me to sell it.

OnlyANinja · 09/02/2012 11:32

Different people like to spend their disposable income on different things.

Of course I judge them for it, but I make judgements about you based on everything that you buy.

MateyMooo · 09/02/2012 12:00

i have a personal plate that is very much like my name M4TEY for example. we bought each other personalised plates when i had a 20K bonus and we were young and stupid, but both plates were bought and registered for less than £500

BUT i now wish we hadnt. It ws fun when we were young, but now it feels decadent. i hate taking the car to the garage because i feel the see the plate and add a zero to the bill.

If i change my car (twice both due to accidents that were not my fault) you have to pay £80 for the privilege of transferring the plate.

But i cant bear the thought of letting it go. i have to say that it is so unique that i dont think anyone else would want it - my surname is VERY unusual and have only ever heard of people related to us having it.

Its like a tattoo you regret...

MateyMooo · 09/02/2012 12:13

ps... DH's plate reads PMT

his intitals, but makes me laugh every time i see it!

campariandlemonade · 09/02/2012 12:31

MateyMoo is selling her numberplate!

thank you for making me realise that it isnt as permanent as a tattoo and will be more effective when its turned into a new sofa

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 11/02/2012 23:39

I have one I am neither chavy nor a twat! They don't all cost ££££s mine was £250 and was a gift for passing my test at 18yo.

I like it because it hides the age of my car!

KateSpade · 12/02/2012 09:27

my boss has one saying fa55hi0n

Personally i love them, and I'm not chavy or a twat either.
