FFS, Seacow, it should have been quite clear that I don't want to explain it and you kept on and on and on. Butt out. It is no one's business but my own why it means so much to me. It is not for "show" it is just for me. That is what I wanted to explain without going into details.

Unnecessary. All I tried to do was make conversation in a debate I thought was going on about PN. I made it clear I wasn't trying to be nasty about it. WTAF?

YonSeaCow · 08/02/2012 13:22

soup I think that was pretty nasty of you. I made it clear i wasn't being funny, I don't know you so how would I know you don't want to talk about it as it's too personal without you actually saying so? That's all you had to say!

scuzy · 08/02/2012 13:24

each to their own. i dont understand expensive handbags or spending money on manicures and shite like that .... but certainly dont call people twats for doing so.

kilmuir · 08/02/2012 13:26

Think they shout out 'i am an idiot for paying stupid amounts of money for this crap'

Lulumama · 08/02/2012 13:29

get ready to hoik up your judgey pants

Me & DH have matching numberplates. that spell our surname. They have increased in value a lot

so yer know, I am prepared to be called a twat

I don't see how it's any twattier than spending £££ on a handbag/shoes etc emblazoned with designer emblem/logo

i have so many more important things to think are twatty, TBH

DontDoSupportiveGF · 08/02/2012 13:37

Because hes a self obbsessed twat. PROOF ? He just bought a plate that spells his name

The DVLA actually issue plates that says TWAT? Shock

ArielNonBio · 08/02/2012 13:38

Why do they increase in value if they have your surnames on? Doesn't that make them desirable only to you?

(not being arsey, just curious)

DontDoSupportiveGF · 08/02/2012 13:42

Well, if I was Mr Singh that had S1 NGH I suspect that it would be very desirable to a lot of people. :) I seem to rcall that it went for a 6 figure sum a few years ago.

ArielNonBio · 08/02/2012 13:44

No, I was asking Lulumama who has matching numberplates with her husband.

bijou3 · 08/02/2012 13:54

I see it as an investment my plate is about 100 years old, I brought it about 6 months ago and its already gone up in value quite considerably.

FedUpOfTheBunfightsSeaCow · 08/02/2012 13:56

bijou3 100? It was made in 1912??!!

bijou3 · 08/02/2012 14:10

Between 1903 and 1932

silverfrog · 08/02/2012 14:11

the number could easily date from 1912 - frst ones issued early 20C iirc (1902? 1903? thereabuts anyway)

2blessed2bstressed · 08/02/2012 14:29

I have one. I am not a twat. Let that be an end to it.

FedUpOfTheBunfightsSeaCow · 08/02/2012 14:30

silverfrog wow, I didn't know they went that far back! Shock

madaboutmadmen · 08/02/2012 14:34

wow so much judgement based on somebody have a personalised number plate. Nothing like generalising eh? And no before you ask i do not have a personalised number plate neither does anyone in my family.

Amaretti · 08/02/2012 14:41

They always spell WANKER to me. And I think "if you had that money to waste, why didn't you give it to Oxfam". Just my opinion of course.

silverfrog · 08/02/2012 14:46

do you give every spare penny you have to Oxfam, Amaretti?

no spending on anythign that isn't absolutely essential? no birthday presents? no bar of chocolate? no Wine?

Seacow: A1 is the first recognised alpha-numerical plate, but apprently there were a few issued by other authorities (I think that means 'outside London' Grin) before that. but A1 generally considered to be the first plate.

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 08/02/2012 14:46

We bought my Dad and Step Mum one for their wedding Blush Well actually my brother jusy so happened to find one that is her initials, the year they met, then his initials. We looked at getting the 11 plates for the year they were married, but it almost trebled the price! No one knows what the letters and numbers mean unless you know them though, so not 'personalised' in the true sense Grin

Amaretti · 08/02/2012 14:49

No. I even have a mulberry handbag.

I do have a direct debit set up to Oxfam and that is honestly what I think when I see a personalised wankerplate.

bijou3 · 08/02/2012 14:54

That?s not fair Amaretti, just because people choose to have a P/N does not mean they don?t give to charity.

brighthair · 08/02/2012 15:07

I love mine. It was a present from my Dad, it means nothing to anyone else but me and whoever I tell. It is fairly obvious it's a personal plate but doesn't spell anything as such Grin

gettingeasier · 08/02/2012 15:11

YANBU I dislike them even though several in my family have them.

However I didnt know they were such good investments so at least they do have some point after all

OP tell us more about the Hoover cover

eaglewings · 08/02/2012 15:11

I want to get my own personalised plate now just to annoy those who think I should give to charity. I'll be secretly smirking knowing my own direct debits Grin
