Probably twice a month on average. Once/twice out for lunch or early tea wiht the DCs and once out for naice dinner with DH. Pre-kids and living in London, we were out to dinner prob about 4 times a week. Blush

JugglingWithSnowballs · 07/02/2012 17:47

Me too, I've not added on all the toasted sandwiches at the park !
But, that does seem a bit different to "going out" Smile
Still nice though !

LeQueen - we have a cafe near us that we are in fairly regularly, so much so I tend to know staff shifts Blush

myron · 07/02/2012 17:49

Once a fortnight - weekend lunches with the children at pretty good restaurants since we are real foodies. We've agreed to cut back though to once a month as well as sacrifice all holidays abroad this year due a major house extension/renovation.

My parents are a bit similar LeQueen. I had never eaten in a restaurant til I went to university. I'd been in cafes, but I'd never even had a pub meal.

They baulk at the idea of paying more than about £20 for 4 people at a meal. They're not rich, but have paid off their mortgage, both work full time, no dependants any more so they're not skint either.

Think part of it is coming from rural Scotland. Our town didn't have any restaurants, so I suppose you just aren't in the habit of eating out especially if you grew up in the 50s as they did.

But seriously, it really depresses me that going out to Harvester is a massive deal to them. I wish they would treat themselves occasionally instead of just getting the cheapest stuff they can.

About once a month for us but no takeaways ever.
I thought that was a LOT - but reading this thread it seems not at all!

I guess just looking at how many restaurants there are and how busy they are confirms that we probably don't eat out as often as a lot of people.

JugglingWithSnowballs · 07/02/2012 17:58

HaHa, you guys are making me smile with your competitive cafe going antics Smile
Well, I've been out for a meal with someone who works at our local cafe. So, Ner !
(though actually that's another story)

signet2012 · 07/02/2012 18:01

We have takeaway more than Id like simply due to being lazy and working lots of hours at least once a week sometimes 3 times a week (chinese, pizza fish n chips etc)

Actually eating out probably less than once every two months....if Im on hols from work we tend to go to a little place I love as they do a lunch special of two courses for ten pounds, same meal and quantity on a night is nearer thirty.

Love Love Love frankie and bennys but this is normally in the region of 50 pounds for the two of us as we make right pigs of ourselves ! This is a birthday/celebration only time.

Avenged · 07/02/2012 18:28

About 2 - 4 times a year to a proper restaurant and about 2 - 3 times a year to a cafe.

The 3 - 4 times we go to a restaurant will be on our anniversary, Dh's birthday, my birthday and Valentines Day. That's it. I will only go out for a cuppa in a cafe if one of my friends desparately need to talk and if I'm in town at the time. Other than that, I'll ask if they want to go to my house, have a cuppa for free and be somewhere more private.

verytellytubby · 07/02/2012 18:33

Not enough. I love eating out.

SaraBellumHertz · 07/02/2012 18:34

Out of 6 meals over the course of a weekend at least three are usually out as a family and friends.

DH and I eat out either alone or with friends twice a week and I'll quite often take the DC's for an early supper after school. Although DD 7 is starting to want to come out for grown up meals

Breakfast or lunch with friends twice a week

This is exactly why I am struggling to shift half stone of baby weight.

noddyholder · 07/02/2012 18:38

Too much. At least every day I have a costas coffee. At least twice a week lunch out. Dinner a few times a month. Too much thats for sure my ds thinks nothing of it and is Hmm if I say no! Today have had a sandwich and coffee out with dp. Then we went to the cinema and just got in and have ordered pizza Blush. Am going to cut down i think seeing it written down

Somewhere between 2-4 times a month. Mostly with dh & the dcs, other times with friends. We aviod chains unless we're stuck, we try to seek out interesting foodie places - cheap or pricey as along as it's tasty. We never eat out on a Sunday though - much too busy and we fail to get excited about Roast Dinners.

mycatsaysach · 07/02/2012 18:50

ahem .....same as noddy

Kennyp · 07/02/2012 18:55

Dominos 1 x Every two months
Mc d. 1x a month
Eating out "properly" with smalls 4 x a year
Esting out with oh alone 1 x a year

oiwheresthecoffee · 07/02/2012 19:03

Once a week with a friend. Total cost less than an tenner. Actually its not quite every week but near enough.

BellaVita · 07/02/2012 19:03

A couple of times a month - most times with the boys.

Now the boys are 15 and 12 and we do not really need anyone to referee them, (which will save is £20) DH and I are going to start going out by ourselves on a Fri/Sat evening a bit more for something to eat.

noddyholder · 07/02/2012 19:04

But lequeen I am also always banging on about my home cooking. I made a crumble a tart(e) Wink a veg chilli and 2 soups this week! I have a few things on this week then I am going to try to cut down.

marriedinwhite · 07/02/2012 19:05

Usually to a local pizza restaurant or somewhere like Carluccios as a family at the end of every term and the same for birthdays, so that's 7 times for the four of us. DH and I might eat out about twice a year - in fact we are going out the week after next - to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of our first date and now that restaurant has shut, we go to the one over the road Smile.

About four times a year we get taken out to very posh places by DH's clients - think the Ivy, etc., which we both find quite tedious and DH always says on the way home - you're a better cook anyway!

On holiday we usually eat out about half a dozen times and always try to chose one really nice restaurant.

DD and I might have supper out if DH and DS are away/out - may be about once every six weeks.

Am very naughty when dd and I are shopping - we nearly always have something in a coffee shop.

Don't feel we go out very much but when I write it down it all adds up Blush.

Add in the suppers at friends - probably 8-10 and year and the return trips here - probably about 6 times a year and it really does seem quite a lot Shock

We don't do takeaways though.
