Found a Brut "Aquatonic" deodorant "stick" in my DH's washbag

For those born after 1976 this is deodorant that looks like a big white lipstick, and "Brut" is cheap pongy aftershave worn by men with perms and Peter Sutcliffe. "Aquatonic" was it's modern racing driver fresh Magnum PI cousin.

So..given these were actually made illegal by Margaret Thatcher in 1981 as they caused riots and brought about the New Romantics and flicky hair for all AIBU to ask my DH to remove it and buy a new one for his holidays?

Bonne bell!
How could I forget? Alyssa Ashley musk oil. I was convinced it was sex in a bottle and would render me irresistible Blush

MySweetPrince · 06/02/2012 14:46

Oh the memories............I was a Saturday girl in Boots in the early 80's. I used to help re-stock the NO 7 counter, anyone else remeber Plum Beautiful and Shiny Conker lipstick. Lemon Delph cleanser and Linco Beer shampoo?

TroublesomeEx · 06/02/2012 14:48

I remember the Linco Beer shampoo.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 06/02/2012 14:54

I like the smell of brut Blush

FloydieDoydie · 06/02/2012 15:14
Grin

I remember that Taboo (different to Tabu) perfume being all the rage at school and dying to get some. It was advertised with some girls laughing in a convertible car if I remember correctly. My mum bought me some for Christmas, and I was so pleased when I brought it into school - only to be crushed when one of the "hard" girls went "urgh! no one wears Taboo anymore!" I had gone and changed to Exclamation! in the meantime, and I was gutted, as well ad feeling sad and guilty when my mum asked me why I wasn't wearing it. Sad

Sidge · 06/02/2012 17:15

I also had those rollerball lip glosses (Constance Carroll ??) that were sticky and fruity.

We attracted flies in the summer but we had these lovely jammy glossy lips so didn't care Grin

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2012 17:34

Oh Sidge I had a Rimmel one that was fudge flavour. Grin

Sidge · 06/02/2012 19:52

Sparkling I think my favourite one was cherry flavour. It was more like the congealed liquid you get at the bottom of a jar of maraschino cherries though Grin

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2012 19:54

Perfect for a teenage snog Sidge. What were we thinking?

cocolepew · 06/02/2012 20:07

Mum wore Tweed and Charlie Girl.

I wore a musk from the Body Shop, a touch of musk?

DH was wearing Eternity when I met him.

What was the stuff you could get through mail order? It was baskets of smellies, I think it was a French mans name. I always was dying for them.

LindenAvery · 06/02/2012 20:25

Sure Cool Amber anyone?

laughinggnome · 06/02/2012 20:31

Coco - was it Yves Rocher - all the parcels came packed in popcorn?

mrsjay · 06/02/2012 20:52

dementedma · 06/02/2012 20:52

ooh Yves Rocher used to do products containing Periwinkle, I think. One sniff of that will take me back in the mists of time.......

warmandwooly · 06/02/2012 21:34

Body Shop perfumes- I had the strawberry and I can remember most people having Dewberry or white musk. I remember how packed The Body Shop used to be and how the perfumes were in the glass jar things and how it was the in thing to get a Body Dhop gift made up for you. As for exclimation I was always sad that I never got any. I remember getting Max Factor's Le Jardin (sp) for Christmas. Heather Shimmer was what my mum wore and remeber buying some Studio Line mouse to get the freebie record bag!
As for the Lynx-i rember the post PE smell of Lynx in the class room!
I also remember people getting the cheap copy perfumes.

LynetteScavo · 06/02/2012 21:59

I never could stand Body Shop White Musk! Awful stuff!

SilkandSteel · 06/02/2012 22:08

I used to wear Le Jardin and Blase. Also the range that Yardley did - Lace, Black Velvet and White Satin. Boots Twilight Teaser, Pinking Shear and Brazen Raisin lipstick. Violet Vamp eye shadow - always looked like I'd been in a fight. And those brilliant roller ball glosses - my faves were cherry and cola

MrsCornish · 06/02/2012 22:12
Thank you thank you thank you. I haven't thought about that since 1984 but i only had to read the words to hear this song....
IDoNotLIKEFun · 06/02/2012 22:20

Black Cherry lipstick! Very kind to less-than-pristinely-white teenaged teeth. The colour of choice for either gender as I recall.

The Baby Shrimp and orange / yellow-toned colours looked good on very young teens only.

It might have been on the thread I linked to, or not, so apologies if I am repeating a comment, but I wonder if our DD's could have this discussion in a couple of decades time? It's clear that all of us of a certain age used the same 50 or so products, but there are so many now.

UKSky · 06/02/2012 22:28

Oh the gold Impulse spray (musk?) I think I smelt it on a teenage girl recently so it must still be around.

And I've followed men down the street just for a whiff of Aramis. Always reminds me of my first love.

TapirBackRider · 07/02/2012 04:28

Oh Le Jardin. I wore that perfume when I got married!

I definitely remember Delph Lemon cleanser, loved the smell of that, and the gold impulse spray. It's called a touch of musk I think.

Does anyone remember the coloured hair mousse? Not sure who made it though.

GiserableMitt · 07/02/2012 04:55

"Romantic Jane Seymour" Didn't she stab someone with a pen?

That's an ad I haven't heard in years. Nick Kamen in the Levi's ads anyone?

There was another ad I used to love because of the guy in it. It was for a soft drink, similar to Lilt I think. Oh, I can't remember what it was called!

GiserableMitt · 07/02/2012 05:01
Cringe! :o

and Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran sigh How I loved a man wearing more make-up then me (and that was saying something in the mid 80's)

Sparklingbrook · 07/02/2012 06:38

ooh yes Giserable. Nick Rhodes and David Sylvian. Confused
