Found a Brut "Aquatonic" deodorant "stick" in my DH's washbag

For those born after 1976 this is deodorant that looks like a big white lipstick, and "Brut" is cheap pongy aftershave worn by men with perms and Peter Sutcliffe. "Aquatonic" was it's modern racing driver fresh Magnum PI cousin.

So..given these were actually made illegal by Margaret Thatcher in 1981 as they caused riots and brought about the New Romantics and flicky hair for all AIBU to ask my DH to remove it and buy a new one for his holidays?

The 80's that I remember

for Men
Mandate

Aramis

for Women
Vanderbilt
Sunflowers

MadameOvary · 05/02/2012 10:47

Cannot stand Kouros, creepy man wore it and ruined it for me.
My boss wore Jazz and I had a massive crush on him.
My friend wore Drakkar Noir, that was nice.
I wore Body Shop mango, seduced my boyfriend at the time with it by putting it on his hair. I was his first girlfriend so it worked a treat Grin

Dh bought me some lovely expensive perfume for our first Xmas together; sadly it was Poison, to which I a) am allergic, and b) react so it smells of nothing but baby talc. Same re Dewberry. Immediate sick headache.
Brut, Charlie, lager is the smell of teenage lust. Fact.

iFailedTheTuringTest · 05/02/2012 11:11

Body shop did another musk, not white musk. Anyone remember it?

I then moved on to waaay too much obsession. As one poster said, it is nice - in moderation!

JuliaScurr · 05/02/2012 11:13

Japanese Musk. Got some.

waterlego6064 · 05/02/2012 11:13

Musk has got something to do with yak's arses hasn't it? Sweat glands or something? Or am I just really gullible?

missmiss · 05/02/2012 11:21

I had Bodyshop Dewberry and Heather Shimmer lipstick in 1995, I was way behind the game! Most of my make up at that point came free, stuck to the front of Shout magazine :D

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 11:24

My first eye liner came sellotaped to the front of Jackie , or possibly Blue Jeans magazine.

CiderwithBuda · 05/02/2012 11:26

My 21st was in 1985. Presents included Rive Gauche, Opium, Anais Anais, And Paris. Liked them all.

Never liked White Musk.

My boss wore Poison so I wasn't allowed wear that! She bought me the Opium.

Lots of Rimmel Heather Shimmer and pink shimmer.

Brut and Old Spice take me back even further! First boyfriend. 1978.

I used to spend a fortune on perms. My hair has not got more curl in it naturally and I am embracing the shaggy scrunch dried look. Desperate for proper curly bobs to come back. Or The Shag. When it only meant hair.

OTheHugeManatee · 05/02/2012 11:57

I went back to using Sun-In recently and have had loads of compliments on my lovely highlights. I must be the only person in the universe that doesn't get a weird orange 'do using it Grin

HowAboutAHotCupOfShutTheHellUp · 05/02/2012 12:05

I wore Bodyshop coconut Smile

pissovski · 05/02/2012 12:11

Lovecat would that be a disco with initials for its name?? Grin

Aquatonic was early 90s for me. That and Lynx Tempest and Lynx Oriental make me think of guys i fancied (so i bought a can and would smell it!)

I liked White Musk and had a bottle of Exclamation bought for my 15th (?) birthday

TheBigJessie · 05/02/2012 12:47

I feel so young... Body Shop white musk was my mother's favourite scent, and it's the smell of cuddles after I'd fallen over and skinned my knee, and Noddy stories.

I used to buy white musk stuff for her for mother's day once I was old enough for pocket money.

TheBigJessie · 05/02/2012 12:52

I want some White Musk pot pourri!

JuliaScurr · 05/02/2012 13:02

BigJessie Stop it Right Now!
Some of us can remember the Battle of Agincourt Body Shop being founded.

pinkhebe · 05/02/2012 13:12

Jazz would probably still make me go weak at the knees! a boyfriend from a posh private school wore that Grin

I would wear dewberry from the body shop

And the smell of Charlie always reminded me of my Mum going out for the night Grin

TheBigJessie · 05/02/2012 13:20

Wasn't the Body Shop founded, like, years ago, like? Like in the last century?

HelloShitty · 05/02/2012 13:23

Twilight Teaser and Gilty Pink were the 'in' Boots 17 lipstick shades back in the 80s.

I still have a bottle of Body Shop rose musk which I have kept because it reminds me of my first love :(

AlbertoFrog · 05/02/2012 13:32

Oh dear God, I still wear heather shimmer lippy.

And my chum still wears fuzzy peach. When she heard the Body Shop were stopping it she bought up their stocks.

Have stopped crimping my hair though.

Bluestocking · 05/02/2012 13:33

My sister used to wear some atrocious pong called Eau Jeune. I used to wear Anaïs Anaïs which I now realise absolutely stinks. My poor parents - what must it have been like going anywhere in the car with us?

ujjayi · 05/02/2012 13:34

OMG. Drakkar Noir was THE scent of teen lust back in 1987.....

I remember the near-misses with asphyxiation caused by too much Impulse spraying in the girls' changing rooms in 1983. The lashings of Twilight Teaser and electric blue mascara. Swathes of Sun-In on fringes across school campus or, if you were slightly alternative, Shaders & Toners in copper or plum.

whackamole · 05/02/2012 13:37

When me and my friends went to PGL (must have been 95/96) we were nicknamed 'The Dewberries' by the staff. Yes, it was Body Shop Dewberry body spray that we liberally coated ourselves in.

Also Heather Shimmer lippy was well in. Also Clover Pink lippy by the Body Shop - they re-released it not long ago but sadly I missed the boat on buying another one.

floramckitchen · 05/02/2012 13:38

Does anyone remember a perfume called Blaze? I think you could get it in Boots. It was lovely and 80's! My other favourite was Anais Anais - my 17 yo dd came home with a bottle a week ago asking if I had tried this 'new' perfume.
Still smells exactly the same!

shesparkles · 05/02/2012 13:47

Avon Iced Champink lippy anyone?

GiserableMitt · 05/02/2012 13:49

HelloShitty

"Twilight Teaser" That's the name I've been trying to think of - thank you!!!!

(Not something-shimmer at all lol!)

My god, that name takes me back.
