Found a Brut "Aquatonic" deodorant "stick" in my DH's washbag

For those born after 1976 this is deodorant that looks like a big white lipstick, and "Brut" is cheap pongy aftershave worn by men with perms and Peter Sutcliffe. "Aquatonic" was it's modern racing driver fresh Magnum PI cousin.

So..given these were actually made illegal by Margaret Thatcher in 1981 as they caused riots and brought about the New Romantics and flicky hair for all AIBU to ask my DH to remove it and buy a new one for his holidays?

Belle DD1 is 13 and that is the "in" look at the moment - tons of teeny tiny plaits to make it crinkly enough

Sparkling yes to the can of Elnett. Used to get through cans and cans of the stuff.
Also looked like cockatoo when the wind blew my flick up in one solid lump!

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2012 15:50

Hathor Shock Grin

Tonksforthememories · 05/02/2012 15:51

My first boyfriend wore Jazz, he was 6 years older than me!
I can tick off
Dewberry
Pump action deoderants
Heather Shimmer lipstick
Charlie red/gold
Shaders/toners
I loved Lynx Alaska!

I was a 90s teen!

hathorinareddress · 05/02/2012 15:52

Oh yes Belle and don't I just love doing the plaits she's a bloody nightmare if I think I'll do them thicker to get it done quicker she's fucking fussy

FizzyLaces · 05/02/2012 16:01

My first boyfriend also wore Jazz. And I wore Samsara!

Do people remember The Hair Company, where you made your own wee baskets of smelly stuff up? And Razzle Dazzle?

Almanzo · 05/02/2012 16:19

My perfume is from the 80s but I swear it's gorgeous and always has been. Honest. It's the original Kenzo and is called 'Ca s'ent beau'.
It's very hard to find these days for some reason.
...but I do rather like CK one and love Old Spice and Brut so maybe I'm in denial Grin
Anyway, how can scent go in and out of fashion? makes no sense? Confused it either smells great or not.
By the way Chanel No.5 is HORRIBLE so ner.

IDoNotLIKEFun · 05/02/2012 16:24

I still wear Paris Blush

Was trying to remember the name of Miners Baby Shrimp lipstick (from Superdrug IIRC and found this thread.

doinmummy · 05/02/2012 16:55

What was the name of that bronzer that used to leave an orange dust
all over my bathroom/bedroom

ujjayi · 05/02/2012 16:55

WRT to 80s hairspray.....twas definitely either Hard Rock or Boots Firm Hold (which was in the same colour can as one of their spray deodorants.....several times I sprayed my back-combed to the eyeballs barnet with the damn stuff).

Those Kouros/Aramis/Insignia wearing boys who wore flicky fringes and (ahem) Sergio Tacchini tracksuit tops, accessorised with "Burberry" scarves......They also either had a wedge going on at the back or they would have a "back perm"......defined by wet-look gel.

Oh and here's another make-up combo for you: Miss Selfridge "Iron Lady" lipstick with Black Pool eyeliner.

I'll say one thing for the 80s, we rocked some highly defined looks. It's all so neutral and boring now.

ujjayi · 05/02/2012 16:56

doinmummy - it was Sunshimmer Wink

doinmummy · 05/02/2012 17:12

Yes ujjayi thats it. Everything was covered in orange!!

TapirBackRider · 05/02/2012 17:33

What about Polo aftershave? My dh acquired a bottle for his birthday...it was
'accidently' broken during a dusting incident Grin

I didn't like the musky perfumes, and stuck to Chic!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2012 17:48

Oh Razzle Dazzle the dream haunt of my late teens/early 20's (there was one in Glasgow under the bridge at Glasgow Central station).

And Ultraglow bronzing powder. And the green lipstick that changed colour with your pH. Mine went fuscia pink. Was that really my ideal colour? You couldn't shift the damned stuff except with Swarfega Shock

doinmummy · 05/02/2012 17:51

The eye liner pencils that were sparkly blue at one end and sparkly pink at the other

GoingForGoalWeight · 05/02/2012 18:01

Lynx - "Java" and Impulse - "On Fire", I think it was called in the red bottle. Poison, Obsession, Jazz, Aramis,Body Shop - "White Musk", so many..

mantlepiece · 05/02/2012 18:15

I wore aqua manda in the 70's! Also had Pagan, Tabu, and Youth Dew! very heavy duty smells... moved on to Rive Gauche and White Musk and Then to Elizabeth Taylors White Diamonds, which I still use to this day. My 30 year old son always asks for Kouros as a gift! Why no Aqua Manda these days? There would obviously be a market for it.

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2012 18:15

OMG - Polo! Now that brings back some very specific memories Wink

My favourite was Tuscany - no idea if they still make it.

MadameOvary · 05/02/2012 19:03

Was the green lipsrick by Barry M?
My first lipshine in the 80's was "Many Moons" by Miss Selfridge -lilac mother-of-pearl in a tube. I wore it with my blue checked batwing top from "Way In" at Debenhams and a red skirt. My hair was backcombed into a roll at the front and tied with a scarf. Silvikrin was the hairspray of choice - a whiff of it will always take me back to the school loos which were thick with the stuff Grin
I wore Raffinee, Je Reviens, Poison (I spilled the bottle in my room and the smell never went away) Body Shop Mango, and the Impulse in the black can which smelled sufficiently spicy for us wannabe goths.

NigellasGuest · 05/02/2012 19:58

did anyone else use Ultraglow in the '80's? a kind of bronzer that made you go kind of luminous copper? was strangely addictive...

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 20:27

I also had an older boyfriend (12 years) who wore Jazz.

What was that about?

Confused

I've still got some ultra-glow... Blush

Don't use it, should add.

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 20:35

Did anyone else ever try that pheromone stuff that was supposed to attract the opposite sex?

MrsCornish · 05/02/2012 20:37

Ann French anyone?! That stinging sensation as it burns out all the grease from your pores... nostalgia. They still make it, i'm tempted to get some just to make me feel 15 again.
