Found a Brut "Aquatonic" deodorant "stick" in my DH's washbag

For those born after 1976 this is deodorant that looks like a big white lipstick, and "Brut" is cheap pongy aftershave worn by men with perms and Peter Sutcliffe. "Aquatonic" was it's modern racing driver fresh Magnum PI cousin.

So..given these were actually made illegal by Margaret Thatcher in 1981 as they caused riots and brought about the New Romantics and flicky hair for all AIBU to ask my DH to remove it and buy a new one for his holidays?

Jessie Now, stop it! At once! Last Millenium actually
Bluestocking Yes! Eau Jeune! Been trying to remember that name since Aqua Manda ^^

cheekyseamonkey · 05/02/2012 13:54

I loved exclamation!!!

jimswifein1964 · 05/02/2012 14:02

My mum has a 30yr old bottle of Avon Timeless talc and Jovan musk, been on same shelf since I was a child!

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 14:09

OP, you didn't just immediately bin the offending item? Shock Next he'll be wanting brown sateen sheets.

When I was 16 all my freinds wore Anaïs Anaïs, except one who wore Paris, because she was "individual". All the snogable boys wore Farenheit. These were deemed acceptable by Thatchers government.

MadBanners · 05/02/2012 14:10

pfft, well, I was a teen of the 90's, it was all CK ONE, where boys and girls just smelled the same! Although, I thought I was ever so cool, and not following the masses, and used CK BE!

Although Dh is using Old Spice, he got all excited about a year ago when he saw it in the shop! Hmm

crystalglasses · 05/02/2012 14:13

I love Opium and didn't realise it was old fashioned. What perfume are mumsnetters using these days?

crystalglasses · 05/02/2012 14:18

I also like rive gauche and poison and youth dew. clearly I need to move on!

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 14:23

Oh, yes, Poison...only to be worn with padded shoulders, IMO.

Molehillmountain · 05/02/2012 14:23

I can tick off the following:
Twilight teaser
Dewberry
White musk
The pale pink shimmery lipstick from
17 unless that was twilight teaser
Only I was such a coward that I only put them on in my bedroom and carried on being completely uncool because it was safer. A misspent youth.

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2012 14:30

I think Opium's had a resurgence and there's a slightly altered new one too. No idea what it smells like as the incredibly unhelpful sales assistant was "not allowed" to give any testers. Won't be buying it then Grin

And, (rant alert) I'm soooo the demographic for House of Fraser so what was her problem?

laughinggnome · 05/02/2012 14:36

Brut must be worn with a nice creaky new leather jacket for the full 80`s aromatic experience.

Kouros always reminds me of the boys who wore pure wool rupert bear type scarves in pastel shades - those boys had the biggest "flicks" in the school .

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 14:38

Oh, yes, the boys you didn't want to snog wore Kouros.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 14:42

Remind me why I thought blue mascara was a good look? It's awful. Anyone use 'Sun In' and go and sit in the garden when we used to have summers?

LtEveDallas · 05/02/2012 14:51

I lost my virginity when he was wearing Mandate, I was wearing Paris and both of us were wearing half a can of Superdrug Spiky Hairspray.

Mmmm Mandate Grin

GnomeDePlume · 05/02/2012 14:55

DH remembers Hai Karate and Denim being advertised by 'enry Cooper

My mother wore Panache and still would if she could. I am hoping that it is no longer made.

RuleBritannia · 05/02/2012 15:14

My current perfume is called Princess Victoria. It's a British perfume made by Fragrances and Toiletries International UK. I'm beginning to run out of Miss Dior, which had been a gift, so I went looking for one I could afford. Has anyone else used it?

iFailedTheTuringTest · 05/02/2012 15:22

Thankyou, Japanese musk it was.

iFailedTheTuringTest · 05/02/2012 15:25

I thought I was very individual for using japanese musk when everyone was wearing white musk!

doinmummy · 05/02/2012 15:36

I reeked of Blase, wore Crazy Dawn lippy and had the biggest 'flick' in our class. I can still remember having the girls round to mine and showing them how to curl your hair under and then bruch it backwards to achieve maximum flickness Smile

doinmummy · 05/02/2012 15:37

*brush

winemakesmeclever · 05/02/2012 15:38

Anyone remember Insignia for men - a whole range of vile smelling toiletries for blokes "for one all over smell". Fine, as long as you wanted your one all over smell to be of cheap chemicals.....

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 15:38

Did you have the giant gold can of Elnesse to hold it all in place doin.

doinmummy · 05/02/2012 15:38

My Mum wore Tweed

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2012 15:39

I couldn't afford crimpers so I used to damp my hair, plait it and sleep with the plaits in. I thought I looked like Kate Bush. Photographic evidence indicates otherwise. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 15:40

Sorry-Elnett Grin
