Found a Brut "Aquatonic" deodorant "stick" in my DH's washbag

For those born after 1976 this is deodorant that looks like a big white lipstick, and "Brut" is cheap pongy aftershave worn by men with perms and Peter Sutcliffe. "Aquatonic" was it's modern racing driver fresh Magnum PI cousin.

So..given these were actually made illegal by Margaret Thatcher in 1981 as they caused riots and brought about the New Romantics and flicky hair for all AIBU to ask my DH to remove it and buy a new one for his holidays?

Oh yeah that Ann French did sting didnt it?

I thought it was just me.

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 20:47

Wasn't there some sort of peach facial scrub that was compulsory?

jimswifein1964 · 05/02/2012 20:49

Apri apricot facial scrub?

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 20:53

That's it!

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 21:03

Oh yes the sandpapery squares? Grin

dementedma · 05/02/2012 21:07

goodness this takes me back.
loved white musk, and raspberry ripple bubble bath.
DH used to wear Blue Stratos - it really turned me on lol
i remember the Anne French cleansing milk and some bright blue stingy stuff which was supposed to get rid of blackheads.
There was a lemon scented perfume whose name escapes me, but would take m right back. Eau de Lancome was another....
Dad used to wear Old Spice, mum never wore perfume so no associations there

NiceViper · 05/02/2012 21:09

I remember Sivikrin shampoo rather than the hairspray, also "Clairol natural pH balanced", and the little sachets of Toners and Shaders that made no difference whatsoever to your hair colour.

NiceViper · 05/02/2012 21:10

Was the blackhead stuff brown and called something like 10-0-6?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/02/2012 21:13

My god yes! 10 0 6!

laughinggnome · 05/02/2012 21:19

Oh ujjayi I forgot about the Sergio Tacchini tops haha.

The stinging Ann French thing reminded me of Lipcote - yes your lippie stayed on until you peeled it off but my god did it sting!

And the Body Shop used to do this green undercoat for your Foundation (Rimmel - Pale biscuit) - Think I spent most of the 80`s with a vague green tinge.

member · 05/02/2012 21:43

Oh God, as well as twilight teaser, my other pink shimmery lipstick was something like Sweet Sizzle (boots No 17)

Hair colour was Harmony then later Glints. Boots firm hold hairspray & green hair gel in a pot.

Had Dewberry, Blase & dh had Mandate

charleneanna · 05/02/2012 21:48

omg lipcote was a must have but omg did it sting and the taste was even worse but everyone needed there lipgloss free out of my guy magazine to stay on all night at the youth club disco i also remember a phase where most males wore leather jackets and covered them in patchouli oil

AmberLeaf · 05/02/2012 21:51

Aprii facial scrub! Love that still do, I got some Aprii facial wash in Poundland last month too!

10 0 6, I used to use that too!

Lipcote used to peel off if you kissed/drank laughed too much.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 21:53

Lipcote really was nail varnish for your lips. Grin

I used to have L'aimant talc-with a fluffy puff thing. My poor lungs. Grin

FizzyLaces · 05/02/2012 21:54

70isalimit Razzle Dazzle was in here! This was the branch I was talking about too. We used to skive off school, get the train from Irvine and buy a whole outfit here to replace our school uniform. I got my ears peirced on one such illicit day Grin

And Grolsch bottletops on shoes, anyone? Bandanas?

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2012 22:09

And st, st, st, st studio Line from L'Oreal.

Sidge · 05/02/2012 22:10

Aaah, such memories!

The lusty man smells that take me back to my perpetually horny teenage years are

Drakkar Noir
Mandate
Kouros

I wore Anaiis Anaiis, some odd hippy stuff called Vetiver, Charlie Red and Gloria Vanderbilt.

Make up wise was Heather Shimmer, electric blue mascara and eyeliner, or if I'd had birthday money I'd splurge on Miss Selfridge makeup with the pink lipstick-mark kiss on it - it was sooooo cool

I had the perm from hell - I asked for a shaggy perm and got a blonde afro...

member · 05/02/2012 22:11

Woodley Green Shampoo!

NiceViper · 05/02/2012 22:57

Kissing potion?

TapirBackRider · 06/02/2012 00:42

They still sell those L'aimant talc puffs - available at any OAP popular chemists. (Along with Jovan...bleugh)!

Lilaclion · 06/02/2012 01:03

Oooh, reading this thread has just bought back memories of what we thought was the secret to eternal youth...the gorgeous smelling cocoa butter, we used to smother ourselves in it..I'm surprised we didn't slide off our seats, we were so oily from the stuff!

TheBigmouthBugle · 06/02/2012 01:36

Exclamation and Body Shop Mango here.
Also remember Charlie Red.

TheBigmouthBugle · 06/02/2012 01:43

Also, my hair was smothered in Salon Selectives (stink off Apple) and perfectly quiffed with Insette hairspray. It was in a white/blue can, smelled vile and made your hair rock hard. Was very difficult to remove so I mostly didn't bother, and just sprayed again over the top Blush

For some reason, I mostly use unscented products and rarely use perfume Hmm
