Found a Brut "Aquatonic" deodorant "stick" in my DH's washbag

For those born after 1976 this is deodorant that looks like a big white lipstick, and "Brut" is cheap pongy aftershave worn by men with perms and Peter Sutcliffe. "Aquatonic" was it's modern racing driver fresh Magnum PI cousin.

So..given these were actually made illegal by Margaret Thatcher in 1981 as they caused riots and brought about the New Romantics and flicky hair for all AIBU to ask my DH to remove it and buy a new one for his holidays?

Oh? Has this moved on from Brut era?

I think it's a bit of a teenage nostalgia fest whenever your teenage years were Edith. Come back!

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 07/02/2012 11:54

My boyfriend from school wore Jazz- every Sunday before I caught the bus back to uni he'd spray some on my scarf. I'd then get on the bus and envelop myself in it,and his Top Gun leather, weeping to I'll Fly For You played by the Ballet on my rechargeable Walkman which always ran out of juice within 15 minutes of leaving the bus station.

Wants to tell teenage self to get a grip.

IDoNotLIKEFun · 07/02/2012 12:01

Grin at grip.

I used to use some sort of coloured hair-mousse which you left in for reddish tints. Orange streaks running down the face in the rain was not a good look.

Did we all use Toners and Shaders and Glints because our parents refused to let us use permanent dye? Mine did when I was a young teen but then my Dad was an absolute star once when I was finally allowed to use peroxide, took it off too early and went canary-yellow. He drove ten miles to an all-night chemist to get something to fix it Smile

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 07/02/2012 12:14

Enorma said it first, but Exclamation! was the one everyone wanted at our school.

All because some show-offy cow in our year went to France on holiday and brought some back and showed off and said you couldn't get it in England and then the boy half the school fancied bought her a necklace from Argos for Valentines day and it had both their names engraved on it and she said it was because she had perfume (and deodorant) from France and so smelled more sophisticated than the rest of us.

So every other girl in our year suddenly signed up for the school trip to Dieppe. But before we went someone found out she had really bought it in Boots and the class trip might have well have gone their instead because you couldn't move in Boots that Saturday without falling over someone else from school buying (or shoplifting) their own bottle.

NorthernWreck · 07/02/2012 15:46

I havnt read whole thread, but does anyone remember a rimmel lippy called Iced Magenta?

It was a really violent pinky purple and my sister was nevah without it Grin
I wore Boots 17 Pinking Shear

NorthernWreck · 07/02/2012 16:42

Have now read thread and am in fits of nostalgia-particularly over Constance Caroll rollerball lipgloss!

PostBellumBugsy · 07/02/2012 16:49

When Poison came out I thought I had found my true self! As for Kouros, one sniff of that and I'd be at the 6th form Christmas ball snogging the one that got away all over again. Didn't even know they still made it.

TroublesomeEx · 07/02/2012 17:35

NorthernWreck - Yep, I had Iced Magenta.

Is Opium really naff now then? I still like it!

NorthernWreck · 07/02/2012 17:48

Opium is lovely, used very sparingly. I like Paris too! And Rive Gauche, although on me it smells like hairspray.
Best men's fragrance is Terre by Hermes. imo. Although I am right.

When I was little my brother went on a school trip and bought me back a huge bottle of devon violets purfume (I think that was the name). It was sold in Woolworths. It stunk the place out and I poured it down the drain.
