Found a Brut "Aquatonic" deodorant "stick" in my DH's washbag

For those born after 1976 this is deodorant that looks like a big white lipstick, and "Brut" is cheap pongy aftershave worn by men with perms and Peter Sutcliffe. "Aquatonic" was it's modern racing driver fresh Magnum PI cousin.

So..given these were actually made illegal by Margaret Thatcher in 1981 as they caused riots and brought about the New Romantics and flicky hair for all AIBU to ask my DH to remove it and buy a new one for his holidays?

Brut pah?

Hai Karate and Pagan Man need to make a comeback

The bottles of Hai Karate used to have a leaflet showing Karate moves for fighting off the chicks.

That was in the 1970s when domestic violence, along with racism, were apparently hilarious.

FlyingTeapot · 05/02/2012 02:25

I still buy white musk Blush

OP you might want to buy him David Beckham. Old bloke in our petrol station had it on the other day - so nice I asked what it was. Don't judge me by my white musk standards though Wink

GetDownNesbitt · 05/02/2012 07:35

My dad wears Kouros - he used to call it 'knicker dropper'. Nice.

How about Body Shop Dewberry? The smell of the early 90s.....

JaneMare · 05/02/2012 07:41

i see your 'White Musk', 'LouLou' and raise you

Rebel

crikey that stuff was awful and i used to soak myself in it

DM bought DH fucking 'Tabac' for christmas. THIS CHRISTMAS, not christmas 35 years ago Shock i have disowned her he keeps wearing it and smirking Grin

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/02/2012 07:52

I still wear White Musk, it is one of the few fragrances that doesn't give me a headache Blush

My dad wore Kouros and my mum wore Opium, so those smells remind me of them. You must have been able to smell them before you saw them Grin

DH has been getting all retro and has been using Brut and Old Spice. I had to ban the Old Spice though because it is so pungent.

lookbutdonttouch · 05/02/2012 08:21

You see I was very cool, I wore Body Shop's fuzzy peach, to be different.

Did love the smell of kuoros though!

ScoutJemAndBoo · 05/02/2012 08:27

I loved Dewberry, and an M and S one in white but i dont know the nrame. I miss that cream.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 08:28

Update a bit and get him some 'Denim: (for the man that doesn't have to try too hard) and some Kouros. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 08:30

Sorry, accidentally only read page one of thread and Kouros has been covered. Grin Paco Rabanne maybe?

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 08:32

I wore Body Shop 'Vanilla'. Smelt like custard. V alluring when you are 17, with Rimmel Heather Shimmer lipstick obviously.

Polgara2 · 05/02/2012 08:41

Rive gauche anyone ? Grin

meditrina · 05/02/2012 08:41

I don't remember the fuzzy peach, but did have Avon's Pretty Peach.

The other two low-budget aftershaves for men were Blue Stratos and (the rather lovely) Tabac (which I used to wear too).

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2012 08:42

Grin Polgara. Giorgo Beverley Hills (vomit) or maybe a squib of 'Paris'?

SiamoNellaMerda · 05/02/2012 08:46

For the real hardcore 70's girls here - anyone remember Kiku by Faberge? I used to soak myself in that shit! And Aqua Manda - that stuff sells for fortunes on Ebay now!

Flyingoutofcontrol · 05/02/2012 08:48

Body shop Fuzzy Peach.
Body shop Dewberry
Body shop White Musk

Anyone see a trend in my youthful perfume exploits...

And the trend at our school was to spray a bit of Eau de Toilette on your hair brush and brush it in - NO CLUE WHY as we all then stuck hairspray over the top.

Was fine till I did it and didn't realise that granny had bought me Eau de Parfum Fuzzy Peach... Took me 3 weeks to totally get rid of the smell...

meditrina · 05/02/2012 08:51

Yes, I remember Kiku!

(The Kouros and Paco Rabanne, Poison and Obsession era was definitaly 5-10 years after Brut etc).

GiserableMitt · 05/02/2012 08:51

I must be the only person who hates the smell of Kouros!

I had Pretty Peach as a kid. The lid was a little plastic peach.

I used to love Body Shop White Musk until someone I didn't like wore it. I could never get past the association.
Dewberry, now that's not something I would ever have thought of again.

I still wear Opium...

JumpJockey · 05/02/2012 08:51

DH wears Old Spice. It's actually rather pleasant, in a Burt Reynolds sort of way.

Mind you his motivation, which is that it's what his Dad wears, is a little bit disturbing.

missnevermind · 05/02/2012 08:58

DSis says Body Shop Dewberry and a can of Red Stripe can give her flashbacks to the late 80's

Finallygotaroundtoit · 05/02/2012 08:59

I really, really wanted Pretty Peach at Primary school. Envy

And a mum who would 'entertain' the Avon Lady during the day instead of doing a very responsible job Blush

dontellimpike · 05/02/2012 09:02

Haha Aqua Manda, what a stink! I can remember admiring the squat little brown bottles. Was it supposed to smell orangey or something?

There was something called Cedar Wood by Christopher Collins for men that smelt like drawer liners.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/02/2012 09:02

I wore fuzzy peach or Body Shop vanilla.
My best friend wore Kouros. It smelled of mushrooms.

NigellasGuest · 05/02/2012 09:08

Aramis, anyone? T'was v.v. popular amongst the young men of circa 1984....

Lovecat · 05/02/2012 09:08

Jazz was the one DH used to wear - I remember at 14 going on a religious retreat (catholic school) where we had an end of week disco - one of the blokes had brought a bottle of brut with him and they must have shared it around because they all reeked of it!

In my teens I always wore Kiku and my bezzie mate wore Charlie - we rediscovered it in a perfume shop in Dublin some years ago and bought each other huge bottles of it for a laugh - I've still got some! Just one whiff takes me back to discos in New Brighton where you stuck to the carpet when you walked in...

jenfraggle · 05/02/2012 09:14

I keep trying to persuade DH to use Brut as it's my favourite. The meany keeps refusing.
