I am still trying to pick my jaw off the floor...

Who the fuck does this?

Why would you do this without consulting your wife?

What the fuck do I do?

He's home in 20 minutes.

I've namchanged!

Fucking bastard...

You can't just pick the car up when you see it in the showroom can you? There's insurance to sort and payments to make etc. Does that mean he's been planning this for a while?

FabbyChic · 27/01/2012 21:18

YOu put a deposit on a car new or used, then you come back and collect it and pay the balance, the only way he got that today and decided today is if he got from a private owner, but I doubt a private owner would take a debit/credit card. They would want cash.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 27/01/2012 21:19

Let him play with it. Then it has to go. The money is for the house. Put your foot down with a firm hand.

Applemartini · 27/01/2012 21:19

Has he ever done anything like this before OP? It's very peculiar. Either he must have seen the car earlier in the week, planned it and gone back for it. In which case he's being deceptive. Or he just popped in and bought it on the spur of the moment and somehow managed to access the cash very quickly. Either way, very odd behaviour.. He'll have to take it back. I would also call him a dickhead. I don't think that's going too far.

Openmouthedshock · 27/01/2012 21:20

Right am off.

Thanks for all mixed opinions on this.

Pleased to hear from a small minority that it's not totally unreasonable in their opinion.

Can't say I agree for our circumstances but there you go.

Also nice to see, true to mumsnet form there's always at least one bitter/idiotic jealous (delete as appropriate) fool who doesn't believe that anybody with more than 10p in their pocket can actually have a blow-out with their partner re finances.

OP posts:
BumFunHun · 27/01/2012 21:20

Oh fuck - that's bad if the money was earmarked for something else (like the house), and you can't really afford to be spending 30k on a car.

'Pass' on the 'what the fuck do I do?' bit though...I think you would do time if I suggested anything and you followed through with the advice.

KirstiesHomeMadeCrap · 27/01/2012 21:21

yeah 12... you either making things up or loving the fact you (?)owe the £30k car and didnt know how to tell on mn.

AngiBolen · 27/01/2012 21:21

He really, really wanted the car.

He knew you would say no.

ahhhhhpushit · 27/01/2012 21:21

Fabby it is illegal under money laundering rules to pay for anything over £10k with cash.

Openmouthedshock · 27/01/2012 21:21

Thanks pidj good to hear

I think it is polite to check with my spouse before I make a major purchase and he does with me. It is our money and we both work hard for it. We consult each other over what we spend it on.

The OP wasn't consulted on the car and if I spent that much on a car without consulting DH I would expect him to be pissed off as I would if it was the other way round.

LittleMissSpeedy · 27/01/2012 21:22

I'm glad to see that I don't have to watch the 10pm news now......
(would have been interesting.......)

"On the news tonight.... In x location an incident has occurred involving a man and a newly purchased BMW convertible. It is the understanding that the Wife of the man was stopped from causing GBH by concerned MNer's as he had not sought advice/permission before spending a staggering £30,000 on the BMW. Police are continuing to investigate....."

MollyBroom · 27/01/2012 21:22

To be honest if my dh bought a BMW that would be enough to make me walk, never mind the money.

marriedinwhite · 27/01/2012 21:23

My DH went ballistic in 1994 when I accepted an offer on the last house without consultation when he was at football. It was £500 less than the asking price and we had just found the house of our dreams and had been given 48 hours to close the deal and we had agreed on the budget. I let him fester for 24 hours and then reminded him that it was MY house.

Openmouthedshock · 27/01/2012 21:23

Kirstieisfullofcrap

What is up with you?

Why the fuck would anybody tell anybody else on MN that they bought a car for not good reason.

Shall I tell you how much my new house cost? Perhaps my nice holiday last year too?

I don't think so!

Fuck right off.

OP posts:
KirstiesHomeMadeCrap · 27/01/2012 21:23

yeah I am jealous your dh is a dick.

Openmouthedshock · 27/01/2012 21:24

BumFunHun · 27/01/2012 21:25

Wow- how did I miss the other 6 pages of this thread?! I think it's time for my bed...jeez it's not even half 9. That's bad!

Hope you get something sorted OP (and by something sorted, yes, I do mean something that involves a hitman proper conversation with your DH about family finances being spunked spent on flashy, yet not really necessary, cars

FabbyChic · 27/01/2012 21:25

Hey Open! Take no notice of those who are trying to rile you, you have enough to contend with at home. Just ignore those who irk you.

AngiBolen · 27/01/2012 21:26

But the car DH bought, which could fit 3 car seats did come with a bit which folded down in the back seat so you could fit your skis in. (He told me this with great excitement) Like we go skiing every weekend Hmm. Maybe he had ideas of us becoming regulars at Tamworth Snowdome.

PurplePidjin · 27/01/2012 21:27

DP has also said that it'll do about 45 to the gallon on diesel (iirc) and if you can get two sets of golf clubs in the boot then you can definitely get a week's shopping in...

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2012 21:28

If you can afford any shopping now. Grin

hellokittyrules · 27/01/2012 21:29

op - Shock i would feel really hurt to £30k to me is a hell of a lot of money should definetly have been discussed with u first as money was earmarked for house work
good luck hun in getting thingssorted

happyhohoho · 27/01/2012 21:30
