Have even namechanged as am Blush that the whole Nobdies thing confuses me, and I consider myself a regular of some 4 years standing

Thank you so much for filling me in on meaning of IPOAT. A lot of things become a lot clearer now... can I skip the G and T and go straight to the Pinot Grigio?

MardyBra · 21/01/2012 00:54

Ah but Flying Fig, I am the ones the Nobdies call "mummy".

The Nobdies are basically a newish group who have copied the BESH formula. They had a recruitment drive, gave their group a slightly quirky name, and they call each other "Nobdies", and do all the fantasy stuff. It's for people who want to be part of a visible tribe that's a bit cool, but don't meet the BESH criteria* and/or don't want to have to try to break into a long established and tightly knit group.

I'm a member of a small group myself, which I suppose is very exclusive in that we haven't had anyone new join since it was set up years ago. There's lots of groups like that on MN, eg "babies born in August 08". Anyway the point is we've borrowed from the BESH as well, our group has a name that's an acronym and we refer to one another by that name. We don't fumble, snog, or parachute in, but we sometimes have and occasionally . It's pretty harmless.

  • To give the BESH their due, I applied for membership stating clearly that I didn't meet any of their entry criteria, and they warmly invited me to join.

Can confirm niceness and friendliness of the Nobdies :)

They talk too much though and I can't keep up. Or understand a lot of it!

Sorry Away I didn't even know the BESH group exsisted so no copying honest Smile

The Nobdies started exactly a year ago when there was a lot of threads going around about who is your favourite poster. Mardy started a thread asking who was a Nobody, there was typo and Nobdies arrived. A few posters stayed and carried on on the next thread.

I don't think any of us expected it to last more than a couple of threads but it has Smile We have had MNers join us over the last year and stay, we have visitors and honorary Nobdies All are welcome and it may seem mad to those that nip in and Maryz is right we can move quickly, but you get used to it.

I have had fantastic support, help and advice from them and count each nobdie as a friend and feel very lucky to be part of this group.

hth

Awayinamangercooper · 21/01/2012 11:11

I suspected the BESH wasn't the only sorority type group like that on MN, it wouldnt make sense if they were. But I had always assumed such things grew up organically, until I saw the Nobdies' recruitment thread with my own eyes. The people on it at the time referred to "Mumsnet Royalty", which presumably is another one of these groups.

Awayinamangercooper · 21/01/2012 11:31

It's perfectly normal to try to start new groups, that's how you make friends on a site with a million members. But most people are just looking to get to know a group of people and find people they get on with. If it happens to be a cool, prominent group, or to become one, well so much the better if that's what you're into, so what if you're not.

Hmm... perhaps the Nobdies are an evangelical group, that just wants to be big?

Whatmeworry · 21/01/2012 11:52

We need a new group open to anybdie....

Awayinamangercooper · 21/01/2012 11:56
