To think that the West is seriously fucked up on the bosom front?

Bags of poison sewn into our infant feeding parts.

How fucked up is that?

My boobs look the same as pre BFing. I think I'm a bit Hmm as it's the comedown, after being a c-cup for a good while!

It's not marketed as major surgery though, is it?

lMy self esteem isn't dictated by my bra size. I find it VERY hard to understand women for whom the two are inextricably linked.

valiumredhead · 12/01/2012 17:32

Interestingly I have less of an issue with surgery to take bits away rather than adding them and inserting foreign substances. I can totally empathise with someone who wanted a massive bump smoothed out on a nose for example. I realise this makes my a hypocrite -I'm working on it!

entropyglitter · 12/01/2012 17:35

Would like to second the pregnancy not BF that may change your boobs.

Also people are far to keen to say what I do is none of your business and actually I dont agree with that. The more people that have breast implants the greater the peer pressure is on those that dont. People having breast implants now are making the world a harsher place for my DD to grow up in.

Same thing on the gendered toys front...people saying its none of your business if I choose to dress my girls exclusively in pink and only buy them princess dolls. But it isnt coz my DD will be going to school with yours and what ought to be normal (being interested in whatever the fuck you happen to be into) will be frowned on unless it conforms.

TwoIfBySea · 12/01/2012 17:40

Are implants light? Because I have natural FFs and they quite literally are a pain in the back! I've never understood why anyone would want the bother of all that weight hanging off them as it is really quite tiresome.

Plus, even though I'm 40, I still don't get looked in the eye sometimes and I'm not a flaunter by any means!

JessicaRabbit13 · 12/01/2012 17:43

Please don't lump every woman who's had implants into the same box please. I've had them. I had nothing, not even AA. I had implants in my early twenties and it was one of the best things I've ever done. YOU have NO idea what it feels like to be that flat-chested. I went up to a C cup and they look and feel completely natural. And yes I did breastfeed.

AbsofCroissant · 12/01/2012 17:43

What MrGin said.

I also hate the "normality" of scantily clad women. Near my work, there is an M&S, a big one which has a clothing department and a large foodhall. (remember, this is M&S not hooters or something). What imagine, do you imagine, is used on the outside of the store and prominently in the store? Giant pictures of roast chicken, or salads. Maybe pictures of women in knitwear, or men in suits?

None of the above - it's pictures of models in their underwear. It's a FOOD store FFS. Why is it necessary to have pictures of women in their underlings to flog sandwiches and ciabbata?

Nagoo · 12/01/2012 17:45

twoif a couple of my friends had a 'weigh in'. They seem about the same....

jessicarabbitt what box do you think you are being put into?

JessicaRabbit13 · 12/01/2012 17:46

Fucked up?

YuleingFanjo · 12/01/2012 17:46

"It's their choice and what business of it is of yours what other women choose to do with their bodies?"

the point is that women do not wake up one morning and think 'oooh, a breast enhancement I think', they are persuaded into it by the fucked up world we live in which makes some women so insecure that they honestly believe they should ubdergo a painful operation for shitloads of cash just to look a certain way. It's totally fucked up. I wonder what women who have had boob jobs actually think of normal women with normal breasts.

AbsofCroissant · 12/01/2012 17:50

It's this company's adverts on the tube that get me down. It's always stuff like "feel confident this summer!" and other crap. It's surgery

Hullygully · 12/01/2012 17:53

jessica, please read the whole thread.

I think that the pressure put on women is fucked up. The value system is fucked up that made your tits so important that you'd pay £5K and have an operation. I don't make a judgement about you.

sozzledchops · 12/01/2012 18:03

I think people are at the stage where they are opting for cosmetic surgery without thinking much about it. It really is becoming quite natural and not a big deal. I've even changed my views slightly over the years and wonder if in a another 10 yrs when I hit 50s and it is even more normalised if I would consider having something done. I hope I never do.

BIWI · 12/01/2012 18:10

Just to clarify an earlier point - you can improve things by going to the gym/exercising. It won't do anything to your actual breasts, but it can improve the elasticity/tone of the muscles surrounding the breasts and can help make them a little perkier/less droopy.

perplexedpirate · 12/01/2012 18:20

I had breast surgery just over 10 years ago, though a reduction rather than implants.
I cannot begin to tell you how it changed my life. I wouldn't have lived abroad for one thing (living in a bikini with GGs, no thanks), wouldn't have nearly as much confidence, wouldn't have had half the time I've had so far,
Waking up after that operation and seeing my new body was one of the happiest moments of my life.
Yes, the people who used to shout at me in street and even grab at me were twats, but after the operation I didn't have to deal with that anymore. My body was in proportion and my back didnt hurt either. I could buy bras that cost less than £60!
If that's anti- feminist then I'm sorry, but if i had to, I'd do it all again.

KizzyLizzy · 12/01/2012 18:22

Read Katie Price's biography a few years ago (it was my daughter's). There was a picture of her topless pre bust enhancing surgery and she looked so pretty and natural.

I think we have all consistently said it's the system and culture making women want to have them that is at fault and the target of our dismay.

I don't know why a few people are determined to see sneering and condemnation!

"Boob jobs are an individual choice. I have friend that have had it done. They look good, they feel good. No need to feel 'sad' for them. (Nor are they tarty barbie airheads) they are well educated, professional women most if whom are in very fufilled relationships with men that love them so it's not a desperate attempt to get male attention either."

So, can I clarify? Your good-looking educated friends in stable and loving relationships have gone under the knife for the sake of what exactly?

Hullygully · 12/01/2012 18:33

Yes, what BIWI asked. What is it for then?

"People having breast implants now are making the world a harsher place for my DD to grow up in."

Really? Good god!

Thinkingof4 · 12/01/2012 18:39

Perplexed I think your situation is a bit different IMO
Very large boobs cause back pain, limit ability to run etc so there are valid medical reasons to get reduction surgery.
Implants have no medical reason except for post mastectomy or if there is severe psychological reasons due to lack of breast tissue, marked asymmetry etc. The majority of people with implants don't have these specific issues, they have just been conditioned to feel that what they have is not good enough. Sad
