To think that the West is seriously fucked up on the bosom front?

Bags of poison sewn into our infant feeding parts.

How fucked up is that?

Oh Cassette give it a rest.
44,000 women every year are diagnosed with breast cancer - 16,000 die.
They don't have any choice over whether or not to have surgery on their tits. A great many (like me) lost their boobs altogether.
Why should anyone waste any energy over some vain nits who seem to think that getting bigger tits is going to make everything in their life perfect?

If you truly belive that surgical implantation of foreign bodies into your breasts improves your self esteem then you need a shrink not a cosmetic surgeon.

BIWI · 12/01/2012 21:17

I really don't get why someone would have implants if they are so happy, successful and confident. Why? What was she aspiring to be/look like?

I think that actually they want to make it easier. Change the culture so that women DON'T find it necessary to have life-threatening surgery in order to conform to a media image, even when they are beautiful, successful, confident and happil married.

Sneering?
Did you read my posts?
Mishtake, I used to panic sometimes in the morning when I'd had too much to drink and I couldn't remember where I put my boob.Grin
And having to buy bras and bikinis through a 'special' catalogue. I don't know if things have changed since my reconstruction but you couldn't get anything in say M &S just of the shelf.
In the winter it was fine, I didn't bother, but when it got hot I was always aware of that thing I'd have to stick in my bra so I would look 'normal'.
And yes Hully, I agree totally with your last post.

Lady - did you have them in more than one size? My mum has two sets, one for daily wear, smaller & lighter and then larger ones for more glamorous evening events Grin

The only time she felt 'judged/different' for not having breasts was going on holiday in Switzerland where she felt she couldn't go in the sauna as it was naked. Not that she would have gone in even if she had had breasts Confused

GoingForGoalWeight · 12/01/2012 21:34

I believe in women's right to choose.

Is there somebody who doesn't believe in a woman's right to choose? I haven't noticed anybody making that argument.

Hullygully · 12/01/2012 21:40

It's what makes a women make the choice that we are talking about and wish to change.

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/01/2012 21:40

Crisp, I put on weight after my surgery and needed a bigger one.
I went to to my local hospital and was directed to the section where you got fitted.
It was the same place where people went for their leg prosthesis.
I got directed to a room where there were shelves full of boobs in what looked like shoe boxes, and got fitted Grin Sad.
Things have vastly improved, we have a specialised breast unit now, probably one of the best in the country.

CrispLeCrisp · 12/01/2012 21:41

S'ok Cassette, she wasn't actually judged, just feared she would be & hence was put out that she felt she couldn't go in. But in reality, she wouldn't have gone in anyway as she wouldn't have wanted to go naked in front of strangers. Sorry if that makes no sense Confused

She is clear and has been now for 15 years (after 3 lots) and was happy to have a double mastectomy (in the end) just to get rid of the chance of it recurring. She didn't have a reconstruction in the end as she believes the way she is now is a record of what she/her body went (and came) through and she is kind of proud of that.

Nagoo · 12/01/2012 21:41

Plus I randomly saw a sex scene from a film when I was way too young to see it and the woman had little/no boobs and thought wow, she is v sexy so it has always made me feel sexy having small boobs and non padded non underwired bras

this is the point I was trying to make earlier. All I want is for the women that children see in the media to look real, rather than homogenised.

GoingForGoalWeight · 12/01/2012 21:42

I know Hully

CrispLeCrisp · 12/01/2012 21:44

Good to hear things are improving for women near you Lady Smile. I am on an early detection programme (due to family history) and the unit i go to is very modern and proactive. Long may that be available to all women.

mishtake · 12/01/2012 21:44

it's so ironic you said that
Oh what a shame you have gone Cassette - I so much wanted to talk to you about your eccentric use of the word 'ironic'. But never mind.

LadyBeagleEyes - my local hospital has an allocated room stocked to the rafters with various prostheses. A very elderly woman who runs the place and she can tell with just a brief glance exactly what size and shape you require. That's a a hell of a talent. Did you ever try the stick on ones?

ElderberrySyrup · 12/01/2012 21:47

My mother had a landlady, back in the 60s, who used to smuggle watches in hers.

Hullygully · 12/01/2012 21:50

I'm on that too Crisp. I hate having em squashed, they go so much flatter than seems possible.

CrispLeCrisp · 12/01/2012 21:54

Too true Hully. SadGrin

CrispLeCrisp · 12/01/2012 21:55

Although at least they won't explode eh? Wink
