Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, teaandcake, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

Ah thank you tiredmum Smile the getting pissed is meant to be striked out too Wink lol

Off to bed. Now Grin

drywhiteplease · 09/01/2012 21:58

hello can I join (I bring chilled Chablis and twiglets) you all sound lovely and I found you on aibu all quite exciting stuff! A relatively new to mn but so glad I found it.
dozynosey seems to me that from the time you meet your dp/dh some people think it gives them the right to ask rude questions/give unwanted advice. My kids are 11 and 13 and still it comes! People have opinions about every thing from how you feed your pnb,how you should have it, what sort of school you should send it to etc . I remember specifically saying that we had decided on a name for ds and still they made suggestions. Also remember v annoying midwife friend saying to me " I assume you will be breast feeding" when I said an emphatic no her reply was " can I persuade you to change your mind"!!!!
Sorry everyone, first time on bench and I have gone on a bit!

Arachnophobic · 09/01/2012 23:04

I really like AIBU, but I really struggle with what can only be described as gratuitous nastiness, and outright bullying at times . PS not a newbie but have bad lurking form ha ha!

Arachnophobic · 09/01/2012 23:04

Sorry went completely off the point in act of randomness.....

CheerfulYank · 09/01/2012 23:13

No worries, acts of randomness are welcome here. :)

Sure drywhite, come on in!

ElmoFan · 10/01/2012 09:40

This must be the most polite thread on AIBU, it contains the words oMG I am so sorry, than you, no worries and lots of other kind words Grin

Urghhhhh migraine AGAIN, it's a low grade one but this is day 3 and I'm fed up of it now Sad I think I need proper migraine meds but I can't take ibrufrofen of any sort and I just bet they are fell of them. I need to go and chat to the pharmacist about it.

Hope everyone else is ok? Nice to see new faces :)

valiumredhead · 10/01/2012 10:43

Please excuse the typos!

ElmoFan · 10/01/2012 11:02

Ooh Valium :( Migraine's are dreadful . I had a really really bad one that started on Xmas Eve & didn't leave me until Boxing day night . It was the worst one I've ever had tbh , my left eye half closed on day 3 of it which was very scary seeing as most of the pain was on the left hand side of my head . Dh drove me mad wanting me to go to the hospital , he kept terrifying me saying things like "it could be a mild stroke" until i Google'd migraines & showed him that the eye closing can be a symptom of Migraine .
These really helped me with the Nausea www.digestivematters.ie/Motilium.html plus the Neurofen plus for the pain .
Hope your feeling better soon x

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 10/01/2012 11:04

Oh Lord Elmo that sounds horrible! I can't take Neurofen which is SUCH a PITA! I hate the way they make you feel when they eventually go - really weak and wrung out

ElmoFan · 10/01/2012 11:30

Maybe your doctor will be able to give you a pain killer that is easy on your stomach ? I hate the Hangover feeling afterwards - with me the worst symptom is the Nausea which usually lasts for a full week after a migraine attack Confused

Really hope you start to feel better soon xxx Brew

drywhiteplease · 10/01/2012 17:44

.
Have just been on AIBU and read a thread about women drinking pints of Stella and now know why you lot seek refuge from that twaddle on this lovely bench

Teaandcakeplease · 10/01/2012 18:26

I only venture into aibu threads with a flak jacket on these days Wink

gomummygo · 10/01/2012 19:08

Welcome to all the lovely newcomers! :) (And all their goodies!)

Valium have you tried some of the prescription migraine meds? Not sure if they'd be the same name there, but personally I have been helped by imitrex injections (which I take with indomethacin, an anti-seizure medication, and something that settles the nausea - all at once).

A friend has great success with the maxalt wafters (they are sublingual), though they didn't work for me.

SSRIs are a good long term preventative, if you are not bothered by the side effects.

A lot of people here also use botox injections, but it's not for me personally.

Demerol and morphine are helpful but you have to go to the hospital for them, which is, of course, the last thing you want to do when you're suffering like that.

I have tried a lot of other alternatives but maybe you've tried them all, so won't go on too much! :)

CheerfulYank · 10/01/2012 21:10

I haven't had to take heavy duty meds yet, the OTC migraine pills work for me as long as I take them with lots of caffeine.

Poor you, Vally, they are so terrible.

jammydodger1 · 11/01/2012 12:23

hello ladies [sit down with Brew and sandwich.
valium i hope you migraine has gone, looking for helping hand today as day not going to plan at all and am trying not to drink wine tonight as have developed a basty habit of opening bottle and drinking it all!!! Blush

CheerfulYank · 11/01/2012 12:53

Wine is like that, isn't it!

What's going on with your day?

I am still ill. I am not going to work. Third day this week. I probably could muster the ability to go in, but I'm just not going to. Nope.

jammydodger1 · 11/01/2012 13:05

HI cheerful, sorry to hear you still not feeling too good but you best staying at home until your properly well, us women tend to go back too early and no-one thinks any better of us for doing so and we just delay a full recovery!!
been in work since 7.15 waiting for information about an uncoming audit (still waiting) this is the first audit of three and i know we going to fail, its not my fault as have done "damage limitations" as best i can but upper management only see "audit fail" and i work in a male enviroment who can be quite patronising, put together with little sleep not feeling my sparkling best today Sad

gomummygo · 11/01/2012 13:45

Good for you for taking another day. The flu is so brutal, even when you get better you still feel exhausted. Hope you feel better soon.

Good luck with your day Jammy, hope it goes as well as it can.

valiumredhead · 11/01/2012 16:44

Hello :)

valiumredhead · 11/01/2012 17:10

Thank you though go - what other alternatives do you know about?

My sister is in the US and it always makes me chuckle when she talks about going to see her doctor, the difference between the 'service' is like night and day compared to the NHS. We have the NHS and private health care and not a lot in between iykwim? It's one extreme or the other.

This one hasn't been that severe but has gone one for so long it's just worn me out. It's going though as I have just made ds his tea and yesterday I wasn't able to ( luckily he is 10 so able to go to the chip van which he thought was the best thing EVER!) Grin

Tiredmumno1 · 11/01/2012 18:51
Tiredmumno1 · 11/01/2012 18:53

Sorry I can't help with the meds side of things Sad your life is safer in the hands of DRgomummy Grin

gomummygo · 12/01/2012 00:00

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor or medically trained in any way. Just a lifelong sufferer!

Valium - Envy @ NHS. Also Envy @ private health care. We are the in between. It's not a good place to be. Our wait times are unheard of. It is horrible. We don't have "service" of any kind. Lots of people where I am go to the US for treatment if they can afford it.

In terms of migraines, mine are pretty bad, passing out, vomiting violently, etc., (sorry if TMI). So I don't know what they typically give out, but I've tried everything they've wanted to try on me. For the last fifteen years I've been dealing with one of the best neuros in the country, a researcher who also has them himself, and knows I'm a willing guinea pig.

Imitrex, which I mentioned above, is a sumatriptan. They work to some degree in the majority of people with migraines. Unfortunately a few of them = a mortgage payment Shock, so I save them for the very worst ones. You can also get this in a nasal spray, which is cheaper but does not work for me personally.

As mentioned, I take that with indomethacin, which is a strong pain killer, an anti-seizure medication and an anti-nausea med. If taken all at the same time, they help me.

Alternatives....well, firstly I wear something called a migra-cap. You can find it online. They are expensive and worth every penny. Anyone who sees you in this will likely take pictures and blackmail you for the rest of your natural born life. It is a tight fitting, spandex like hat going down to your neck (also covers your face and has a nose-hole, as well as a lovely hair-hole at the top), with built in cold gel packs in all the right places and pressure spots. It stays cold a long time and is a wonderful relief while it's on.

Lots of things with no success: FeverFew (herbal supplement) as a preventative (works magic for another family member though), acupuncture, accupressure, massage therapy, chiropractor, SSRI's (selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor, count on significant weight gain with this), beta blockers, amitrypteline (warning:antidepressant)

I have not tried: botox injections, calcium channel blockers, or the new surgery they can do on the blood vessels in your scalp.

Other crazy things I do that DO help sometimes -

I have a copper thing that looks like a tarantula that you scrape on your scalp
Hands and feet in the hottest water you can stand with an ice pack on your head
Very strong black coffee with any painkiller that has codeine
Pressure on my head on the side that hurts (would not recommend anyone try how I do this!)

The most helpful things actually though, were keeping a migraine diary of EVERYTHING for almost a year, and learning my triggers (even though mine are unavoidable, at least I know what they are).

Oooh this is getting so long, sorry!
