I know that this post may have some mixed reviews and may even get me slated but I can,t help it.
Someone I know although she is a genuine case her and her husband have as much as me and dh coming in and with a brand new car thrown in for good measure.
I can only dream of a new car and I work my tripe off 5 days a week as well as dh whilst some people can sit at home and get the same income coming in it seems really unfair.

OP posts:

see if we had ood's they could look after the goats and caps and drive the free cars(not sure how they would drive as they have their brains in their hands)

molepom · 09/01/2012 17:29

If they their Brains in their hands would ATOS still refuse them any benefit?

molepom · 09/01/2012 17:29

Just wondering...

TheLightPassenger · 09/01/2012 17:34

make sure it's a gifted and talented goat sitting those exams Peachy. nothing but the best. organic grass feed, watered with purest spring water an all that.

Peachy · 09/01/2012 17:35

I learned today that needing supervision isn't going to be a cause to claim under PIP and ESA

So would we be expected to accompany autistic kids to work then?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 09/01/2012 17:42

Oods make me feel so sad Sad
They also annoy me because EVERYTIME they appear (which is frequently in my house) DS asks me 'are they goodies or baddies?'

Crap have I just admitted to having a tv and dvd player?

KalSkirata · 09/01/2012 17:51

you have a tv? Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaangers arent allowed a tv. They are allowed a lump of coal to look at.

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 09/01/2012 17:55

I think everyone would agree people with genuine disabilities or those who care for others who do need support from the state and this should probably be greater. State benefits should be there as a safety net, we are meant to live in a civilised society aren't we?

However, the problem I have and lots of people I know have is that there are people who claim benefits (not disability related) who seem to be better off on benefits than working, and do very little to find work. These opinions seem to be held widely as shown by the MORI survey for the BBC. It seems odd that people such as myself decide that we can?t afford to feed/cloth/house more than 2 children decide not to have any more whereas there are people who seem to have very large families and expect the state to provide for them, this is irresponsible in the extreme. People should live within their means and if they/or their partner is out of work should think twice about having another child. As I said earlier benefits should be a safety net not a lifestyle choice. Benefits need to be for those who need the help such as some of the people who have posted here.

lunaticow · 09/01/2012 17:55

GP says that where she works many kids have no ambition and expect to live off the social for ever. They come in asking for assessments for DLA and then remain on it for years. I am no expert I just know what she says about the culture. I think it is changing now because of this "fit to work" certificate. GP would say that previously someone would have a mild disability and say they could do NO work at all. Whereas now, the GP will say what sort of work they cannot do such as, if you had a bad leg you wouldn't be able to be a lumberjack but you might be able to work in an office.
Anyone who thinks there is not a benefits culture is living in cloud cuckoo land.
Some people deserve benefits, some people are milking it.

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 09/01/2012 17:59

Lunaticow has got it spot on, there is a culture of people trying to milk the system. Hopefully this will change, it needs to as we have no more money left in this country.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 09/01/2012 18:15

DLA IS NOT AN OUT OF WORK BENEFIT

It really isnt.

I know you dont believe me but its true I tell you.

LittleGnu · 09/01/2012 18:18

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate has got it wrong. There's a culture of rich people in this country living the high life at the expense of everyone else. Hopefully this will change, it needs to as we have no more money left in this country.

4madboys · 09/01/2012 18:19

less than 1% of benefits are claimed fraudulantly, i hate benefits bashing.

if we want to get at people who claim illegaly how about we start looking at the tax dogers and evaders who rake in thousands, but no that doesnt sell papers, lets just bash those on benefits, cos they clearly deserve it Hmm

StarlightMcKenzie · 09/01/2012 18:23

The only culture I see is one of brainwashed people struggling in the recession being encouraged to blame the vulnerable for their predicament in order to side-track them from blaming the government and their dodgy policies.

Sevenfold · 09/01/2012 18:24

it can't be an out of work benefit as children get it.

and children get goats

Dawndonna · 09/01/2012 18:25

MrsDeVere, they can't believe you, the government and the beeb are telling them otherwise, and it's not in their world view to accept that there are people on benefits who are able to work. Just as there can't be intelligent, articulate people on benefits. They is all scroungers and int got no ambition cept livin off the social, init.

Sevenfold · 09/01/2012 18:25

is anyone lol at the aptness of that posters name???
are you? be honest

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 09/01/2012 18:30

As I said in my first post people who need support should get it and probably should get more support clearly this includes DLA.
My issue is some people who do not have disabilities do not seem to want to get off benefits such as JSA. Years ago people would try much harder. We have to ensure we encourage a culture of work for those who can.
Yes clearly there are people who are very wealthy but in the main part they work for the private sector and will be paying tax at 40% or even 50%. If someone has started their own business and create employment and have been successful is it not right that they earn high incomes from their company and pay lots of tax as a result.
The govt needs to do address companies paying their share of tax this has been allowed to go on for too long.

DanJARMouse · 09/01/2012 18:33

I love the fact that there is the focus on getting people back into work, only problem I can see is WHERE these jobs are going to come from?

So many people are being made redundant, in all sectors, yet what is happening to create jobs for these, plus the millions of people in this country out of work?

From a job centre plus web search for jobs online, where I currently live has 1 vacancy within a 15 mile radius, where I plan on moving to had 10 PAGES of jobs within a 2 mile radius.

Sevenfold · 09/01/2012 18:33

there needs to be more help to get young people into work, at present once you are 19 the help is very limited, unless you are forced to work for free for a large company like Teco's

hazeyjane · 09/01/2012 18:34

Lunaticcow, your gp cannot be talking about dla. You can't just ask gp for a letter and get awarded dla. You need evidence from consultants and therapists and medical reports to back up your claim.

And just to reiterate what MrsDeVere said - DLA IS NOT A WORK RELATED BENEFIT!

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 09/01/2012 18:36

This govt has made mistakes and have also the previous govt's overspending has a role to play. At no time have I said that we should attack the people who need support. We need to give them more support, facilities money etc but the people who can work must do it is not fair that we as tax payers are supporting them.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 09/01/2012 18:38

Years ago? I am 44 and a half and I have heard this stuff about people not wanting to work for as long as I can remember. I also read a lot of social history stuff and there has always been a section of society who get through life on the take, doing as little as they can get away with.

There has been no golden age of a super work ethic. There HAVE been times of full employment when the lazy feckers could job hop without putting much effort in.

DId I mention DLA isnt an out of work benefit?

Peachy · 09/01/2012 18:38

people who can work do IME IOF and IF they can find work

Which is prethard right now

Anyway for the people whose opinions would lead me to count them as friends (ie not OP)
From twitter:

@sproggled Channel 4 email address for DLA stories put #spartacusreport in the title [email protected]

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 09/01/2012 18:40

It is particularly difficult for young people to get DLA.

Either you are very MUCH mistaken Lunatic or you or your cousin are making it up.

There, I said it, its NOT TRUE.
