I know that this post may have some mixed reviews and may even get me slated but I can,t help it.
Someone I know although she is a genuine case her and her husband have as much as me and dh coming in and with a brand new car thrown in for good measure.
I can only dream of a new car and I work my tripe off 5 days a week as well as dh whilst some people can sit at home and get the same income coming in it seems really unfair.

loopylou, you do realise that a lot of people on benefits (e.g. tax credits, housing benefit, child benefit) ARE working? And many people with disabilities would love to work, but are prevented a) by their conditions and b) by employers not wanting to employ disabled people?

GypsyMoth · 08/01/2012 16:35

There is no way you can 'exaggerate' your illness under the new rules. So that old chestnut can no longer be used op!!

loosyloo · 08/01/2012 16:36

there should be a limit to the amount any one person/family can claim and that cant exceed x regardless of circumstances

Ohnoredundo · 08/01/2012 16:36

She may envy you for having the opportunity of a career...

Acumenoop · 08/01/2012 16:36

I'm so tired of this.

I'm so tired of being hated.

I work so hard. We try so hard. His neck is broken. How can you envy him? Why do you people hate us like this? Why? Why do you envy us and hate us like this? I just don't understand it.

I'm so tired.

GypsyMoth · 08/01/2012 16:36

Zukie.... You do a great job! I have read other posts from you

AmberLeaf · 08/01/2012 16:37

Sorry Boffy but I dont believe you. [or your sources]

If they dont work at all and exist purely on JSA/ESA or old age pension and DLA, then there is no way that they could afford a top of the range car, nor holidays.

You cant know anything for a fact as you are relying on the gossip of someone in your family.

akaemmafrost · 08/01/2012 16:37

Yes it is offensive. OP can you and loopsylou just PM your nonsense to each other from now on? I can do without getting this puffed up with righteous fury on a Sunday afternoon.

Sevenfold · 08/01/2012 16:37

yabu
and make no sense

wubblybubbly · 08/01/2012 16:37

The cuts to DLA have nothing to do with fraud or exaggerating illnesses. They are purely cost driven.

Even Boris Johnson recognises this.

chocaddict · 08/01/2012 16:37

I don,t disagreee that there are people out there who very much depend on it.
However what I hate is the ones who sit on their arse and still have their holidays, meals out, clothes shopping all of the time

OP, I think you've phrased the thread title and OP badly.

I don't hate anyone for having as much as me, but at times I have been bemused by SILs purchases. (She has been claiming benefits for many years).

DH stopped giving her money to help with DN when he sat down and went though what she received, compared to what our disposable income was (at the time we had a tiny mortgage and DH had a reasonable job), and we had less disposable income for 2 adults and one child than she had for one adult and one child. I think SILs would be better if she worked for several reasons, but I can totally understand why she doesn't. I'm bemused, but certainly not envious.

GypsyMoth · 08/01/2012 16:37

Acu.... We are not all like this, just the odd one or two. Chin up!! You are doing best you can

Fo0ffyShmo0ffer · 08/01/2012 16:38

Oh God Sad I want to join in but I just can't quite find the words. Angry

"akaemmafrost Well, in one case you have a hard working woman who works 5 days a week to provide for the family. On the other you have two people who are sitting on their arses all day doing nothing. Might get me slated but I think if you are on benefits you should get it for a year, and then it's gone, and you either starve or get a job"

And how exactly do you force an employer to take on somebody who can only do some of the tasks needed due to disability or who can only work intermittently because of chronic illness? The firm dh works for was nearly driven into the ground by having an employee they couldn't get rid of but who wasn't actually fit enough to do the work . No way they would have taken on a second person like that if they could have helped it. Starvation it is, then...

Envy and hate are pointless emotions. Save your enegry and spend more time concentrating on your own life/problems.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 08/01/2012 16:39

Loopsy my dad will be dead soon so you can see a saving in the benefit budget there, oh and my disabled friend died a while back so I'm sure you'll be pleased I mean every little helps doesn't it.

SuePurblybilt · 08/01/2012 16:39

Oh excellent, it was getting time to update my Shit List

TheMonster · 08/01/2012 16:39

OP, YANBU.
We both work and we rent out house (no chance of getting a mortgage). We had to move in December (old landlord selling up), so we had to fork out £700 for a deposit and pay two lots of rent in December (two lots of £600) as there was a cross-over of one month. Our olf landlord is now playing silly buggers and not returning our deposit.
We are skint. And I mean penniless. One night last week DS had bread for dinner. That was it.
If we were on benefits and got HB we would have been ok. If we were in a council place we would have been fine.
We can't afford to eat. After tomorrow we cannot afford to get to work.

wubblybubbly · 08/01/2012 16:39

Acumen I'm so sorry. I wish people would think how this effects people who are genuinely suffering before spouting this shite.

TheMonster · 08/01/2012 16:39

olf landlord? I mean old.

GypsyMoth · 08/01/2012 16:39

Op.... See what you have done??

See how many people you have upset with this ignorant thread?

Does it make you proud?

chocaddict · 08/01/2012 16:39

And there is most definately people out there who still manage to exaggerate their illness
