I know that this post may have some mixed reviews and may even get me slated but I can,t help it.
Someone I know although she is a genuine case her and her husband have as much as me and dh coming in and with a brand new car thrown in for good measure.
I can only dream of a new car and I work my tripe off 5 days a week as well as dh whilst some people can sit at home and get the same income coming in it seems really unfair.

How do you know they could hold down a job? Are you a doctor? Are you their doctor?

Okay, so taking it that you are telling the truth OP, name four illnesses that are considered disabilities that you feel are wrongly classified as so, obviously you are an expert in this given how firmly you hold your opinion...

I think it is the system that is wrong...there are always going to be people who need assistance and help due to circumstances and the government should do all they can to help with housing, benefits ect ect. There seems to be no review process for this though (not talking about DLA) and people are not encouraged to work

At my dd's school if you are on benefits you get everything for free, school lunches, after school clubs, instrument tuition, swimming lessons but if you're not on benefits it is assumed you can afford to pay for all of these. My dd wanted to do 3 after school clubs at £25.00, we had to limit her to one due to finiances (we have own full time business and husband has 2nd job). I have a friend who is on benefits, neither partner works through choice, and their dc gets four clubs for free...does grate somewhat. I don't begrudge anyone having what they deserve or need but the system is not fair.

ProPerformer · 08/01/2012 17:00

Op - I do totally feel for you on thus one - from my POV...

I totally agree that people with disabilities etc. Should get full benefits and be reasonably 'well off' HOWEVER People who claim benefits just because they choose not to work but are fully able to I think is so so wrong that some of them get so much. I admire stay at home Mums I really do but I cant afford to do that and what with money spent on childcare our household (mine and DH wages combined) actually end up with only about £20 a week more than my 'mother of 2' single mum friend who us on benefits. (I am Mum of 1.) She got pregnant at 19, and has never worked in her life, has a house from the council and 'help with transport costs to docs etc.) while we work 5 days a week and because of literally just skimming the tax bracket, get no help whatsoever apart from the 15 hours free childcare that DS has only just this month become eligible for. My friend got her kids some lovely new bikes for Xmas and loads of other stuff whereas our DS got his presents from EBay with his main one being a £20 interactive teddy!

So I think benefits should be controlled and calculated mire carefully and childcare should have more subsidy for working parents right from the start!

Sorry if that offends some but... Rant over!

If you earn 25k between you, you'll be getting a fair whack in tax credits.

We earn much more than that and get £130 a month for three dc.

Are you sure? We get the basic £40 a month for 2 ds and we're on a lot more than £25k. my mum and partner make about £23k and only get £40 a month for one Ds. I was shocked that she got the same as me tbh

Op.... Why don't you and your DH get off your arses and find better jobs then?? Or do more hours?

CheeseandGherkins · 08/01/2012 17:02

Oh and I forgot to mention the 7 different medications he has to take daily including codeine for pain and the new ones which he's due to start after seeing the gp again. But he's making it all up really, we love sitting at a&e because he's started bleeding at weekends all day long. It's fantastic fun. He's also looking forward to the camera investigations he's got coming up, gets him out of work eh Hmm

LidlDonkey · 08/01/2012 17:03

OP you'd be far better off aiming your hatred at tax-dodgers. The very wealthy of this country rip off decent, hard-working people to the tune of millions of pounds; many more millions than those falsely claiming benefts.

False benefit claims are illegal obviously. If you feel that people are claiming money illegally then that's very different to people who claim the benefits they are entitled to because of their situation.

Nobody likes those who play the system, be they benefit cheats or tax-dodgers, but please don't try to make out that all people on benefits are living the life of Riley.

Nilgiri · 08/01/2012 17:03

Loving this thread. The OP actually comes right out and says what all the other benefit-bashing threads don't quite have the guts or stupidity to say.

And then whines "its very easy to for you to say that wubbly without knowing my circumstances"!

Magic!

And no OP, you don't get to weasel away now. You said you hated people on benefits who had more than you. Not that you hated liars and fraudsters - which would cover dodgy business people fiddling VAT, lying property agents and more than a few MPs.

BarfAndHeave · 08/01/2012 17:03

Ooh, ooh, ooh!

I work full time and claim DLA for my son.

Does that make me Deserving? Do I get a badge?

Or should people who work not claim as they are working and people who aren't working shouldn't claim as they are scroungers, when actually the only people who are entitled (see how I through that word in there!!) to DLA are the people who are actually fucking DISABLED and need it.

Personally, I'd rather not have a child with special needs and no DLA, but I suppose I can bask in your envy as a small consolation for the daily shit I have to go through.

thepeoplesprincess · 08/01/2012 17:03

If you're really that jealous of us, then why not jump on the gravy train yourself?

All you need to do is get your dh to punch you repeatedly in the face and threaten to kill you, and then you too can be living it up in your very own council flat on the grand fortune of £67 a week. Simples.

GypsyMoth · 08/01/2012 17:03

'on the sick with depression'

Dear oh dear....

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 08/01/2012 17:03

I agree. Slate me all you want. We work hard and I think on a day to day basis many people on benefits have the same life as us. However, things like holidays, treats, luxuries etc seem to be the things we can afford that people on benefits can't. This is why we work and continue to do so.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 08/01/2012 17:04

people on benefits who are still capable of doing a job should get everything thrown at them I am on JSA and am capable of working I get nothing thrown at me. do grow up op and stop falling for the myth that there are ££££ out there to be claimed. I would love a job and am looking, I have a degree and various other qualifications as well as years of specialist experience in a particular field but would work for less than I was getting pre redundancy.... tell me where exactly should I be going to get one? get real cut backs mean less jobs so thank your lucky stars you are both working. you need to learn how to manage your income better if you cannot afford what people on benefits have (sweeping generalisation, next you will be saying they all have flat screen TVs and smoke and drink!!)

wubblybubbly · 08/01/2012 17:04

It amazes me, it really does. How come if you genuinely believe a life on benefits is so cushy you don't just jack in your job and live the life of riley?

chocaddict · 08/01/2012 17:05

oh for gods sake I never said that there was absolutely no genuine cases out there.
I know that some people are having a real shit life.
As for lone parents are we talking about the ones who end up with useless partners and children by different fathers.
And then there are the ones who deliberately get pregnant to get a flat.

I can't believe what I'm reading...are you a DM journalist perhaps?

HowlingBitch · 08/01/2012 17:06

Hoho here we go! I love how it's always 'depression' it would have been far more patronizing like this 'depression' .

Pagwatch · 08/01/2012 17:06

The level of ignorance and stupidity about disability displayed on this thread is amazing. Astonishing.
People really want to believe any shite don't they.
