Tortington · 26/12/2011 19:11

is that a godwin revoke?

BoneyBackJefferson · 26/12/2011 19:12

BarfTheHeraldAngelsHeave

surely a thread on DV should be expressed from the sides of both genders, to not do so would belittle the other gender and infer that one is not as bad as the other.

In fact there have been threads on MN which have stated that female on male DV is not so bad. (no I am not going to find them)

MynameisnotEarl · 26/12/2011 19:13

"I thought that I was a feminist-until I started reading it and found the inflexible, and extreme posters."

Me too. And I've been a victim of DV and other crimes perpetrated by men against women. I hate the feminist section - bullying under an 'acceptable' cover. I've challenged views on there and instead of reasoned discussion, been shouted down.

I wouldn't post on a section where my views aren't considered as valid as anyone else's. So, despite thinking it's a ridiculous thing to have to do, I've hidden it.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 26/12/2011 19:13

I wish we were in an actual bar.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 26/12/2011 19:13

Fellatio- the word socialism was in the name, but the ideology was not practised by Nazis. They weren't big into wealth redistribution or anything, unless you count them thieving.

chibi · 26/12/2011 19:15

you know,

for people who acutely sensitive to their own feelings being hurt, accusations of fascism are being thrown about fairly cavalierly

you have no way of knowing what sorts of things this dredges up for posters, what graves it disturbs, so to speak

i am resolutely offended, in a way i wouldn't be if you had called me shrill, or a bitch, or intolerant etc etc etc

however, i am happy to let any posts calling other posters fascists stand, if for no other reason than it makes explicit for me exactly whose feelings i need never give the tiniest of shits about

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 26/12/2011 19:15

Boney, thanks

really

garlicnutcracker · 26/12/2011 19:15

Since the Feminism Wars? this summer, I've tried to steer clear of the section. I recognise the need for feminist spaces; I agree the topic is too little aired and too much maligned. I would like to be able to discuss feminism-related issues with other feminists of various hues, backgrounds and perspectives. I haven't yet found a space for that. Mumsnet's Feminism board emphatically isn't one.

I did learn useful stuff on there; it firmed up some of my woollier ideas. Beyond that, though, its outlook seems (to me) to stifle debate. When someone posts on AIBU with a "Don't piss me off" rider, they're met with a steady stream of Hmm Hmm , quite rightly, as starting a discussion is supposed to invite varied replies. On Feminism - and, to be fair, a few other Mumsnet boards - differing points of view tend to be treated as attacks. We may understand why that is, but it's stifling all the same.

OP, YANBU. Luckily, though, Mumsnet as a whole is fairly feminist - it's what drew me here in the first place - so we can have broadly feminist discussions on other boards.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 26/12/2011 19:16

Tortington · 26/12/2011 19:17

It's OK to say what you like about feminists here, including calling us fascists. That isn't bad behaviour that deserves criticising. It requires no self-reflection on the part of the name-caller.

Pointing out that Christmas is a patriarchal festival however brings down a storm of criticism.

Tortington · 26/12/2011 19:21

still not godwins though

FellatioNelson · 26/12/2011 19:24

I'm not sure I would describe it as bullying TBH, more a sort of intellectual smugness and a contemptuous enjoyment in making other women feel a bit simple for daring to not feel oppressed.

garlicnutcracker · 26/12/2011 19:24

Definitely Godwin! But I've only just seen the thread and wanted to have my post, regardless of the fact that we've now moved to Godwin Land and should all be off fighting somewhere else Grin

BarfTheHeraldAngelsHeave · 26/12/2011 19:25

No, it doesn't, thats flawed logic.

If I stated that I like Cheese sandwiches and I think more people should eat them. That doesn't mean I am belittling every other sandwich filling or inferring that Ham is bad. I am just stating that I like cheese sandwiches.

Nothing personal, but I'm not going to engage any more. I've spent the last two days with my extended family and to be honest thats about enough of banging my head against a brick wall as I can take Xmas Grin

Tortington · 26/12/2011 19:25

i'd definatley call it bullying

Callipygous · 26/12/2011 19:25

And the twisting of other posters' words into their own propaganda.

Callipygous · 26/12/2011 19:25

That was meant to follow Fellatio's excellent post.

Tortington · 26/12/2011 19:27
