Ruined Christmas - AIBU to want to cry?

Sister came round today to stay for christmas with 2 DN's, husband and dogs. Lovely newly clean house ready for Christmas and what happens? Dog knocks over tree and rips apart decorations my daughter made, that we've had for 5 years. Her spoilt little brats feed ENTIRE BLOODY lamb leg (for christmas eve) to said dog. Her DH and mine have disappeared to the pub, she's gone to bed (MY BED AS HER BACK IS APPARENTLY TOO SORE TO SLEEP DOWNSTAIRS) leaving me with 3 kids a manic dog and a broken in half christmas tree. Now transpires that DN1 has climbed onto the bathroom sink and pulled it from the wall, I had water all over the floor before I could stop it, told them to clean it up only to be shouted at by a 10 year old that I wasn't their mum. I cannot believe all this has happened in 1 day, but I'm at my wits end and I've locked myself in the kitchen rather then deal with all that. :( AIBU to just curl up and cry? Xmas Sad

At least you have your sanity.Never mind the Leg o Lamb.

Wow! You are my hero loopsyloo

Xmas curtsey to LCCM 'merry xmas m'am'.

belgo · 23/12/2011 15:53

I want to know how long were they at your house, and how much damage did they manage to do within that time?

hackmum · 23/12/2011 15:55

Well done, loopsy. Hope you have the great Christmas you deserve!

VJayJingles · 23/12/2011 15:57

Well done, I now hope you have a great Christmas Xmas Smile

etJeviensEntretesReindeers · 23/12/2011 15:58

Oh god I'm in AWE, you are brilliant. Xmas Smile

Ok. Now they didn't take their presents, did they? I really hope not. Return them to the shops if you can, to help pay towards the repairs.

If you say where you are, is there a chance we can get hold of a plumber to send round to you? I mean someone here might be related to someone, or something...do it today though or tomorrow will probably be double the price.

I am fairly good at fixing sinks but can't do copper pipes...where is the actual damage? Do you have isolating valves on any pipes, and do you know where the stopcock is?

ThePathanKhansWitch · 23/12/2011 16:00

I will from now on be doing a Loopsy at any fucker that annoys me!

etJeviensEntretesReindeers · 23/12/2011 16:03

and I beg to differ that a sink needs to be strong enough for a random 10yo to stand on.

That's just taking the piss, and when they described your family, they were describing their own I think...in terms of 'fucking messed up' they really win the Christmas biscuit.

Collision · 23/12/2011 16:04

Nip out to the supermarket and get something else for dinner.

You might need a treeless Xmas this year and you could make more decorations tomorrow.

Good for you! Well done.

BalloonSlayer · 23/12/2011 16:06
Shock

Blimey

Comfort yourself with the thought that if the dog has eaten a whole leg of lamb bones and all it will most likely puke and shit all over their house tonight. Well, lets hope so anyway...

sweetsantababy · 23/12/2011 16:12

Goodness what a lucky escape you have had. I amd Shock at your ds saying you shouldn't leave 2 10 year olds unsupervised. Have a lovley calm christmas.

AbbyAbsinthe · 23/12/2011 16:16

Fantastic! Grin

You can relax now and enjoy your Christmas. Although I can't quite believe she told your family was 'messed up' Shock What a fucking liberty!

So glad for you that they've gone - from how you've described them, there would only have been more of the same. Now you can enjoy Christmas with your own family Smile

Salmotrutta · 23/12/2011 16:17

Shock that she went nuts at you - good result though apart from the cost of the damage.

ZhenTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/12/2011 16:18

Well at least they are gone.

Appalling behaviour from your sister, (NotsoD)N's and the dog.

My 2.5 year old knows not to climb on sinks and feed food to the cat/dog, especially someone elses food Shock. To not leave two 10 year olds unsupervised, my arse, I have never heard such nonsense. She should be embarrassed!

She should have:

  1. Got her lazy arse out of bed
  2. Told off kids
  3. Chucked dog outside
  4. Phoned and paid for plumber to fix sink
  5. Cleaned up the tree mess with kids
  6. Gone and bought you new leg of lamb and Christmas tree

Anything less for me and they would never be welcome in my house again.

Oh and I would have told her that you didn't want to be involved with her f***g messed up family again. What a cheek!

Well done for standing up for yourself.

Vicky2011 · 23/12/2011 16:18

Yes their's is the family that is "fucking messed up". What kind of parenting would mean that level of destruction would be normal if the kids were left to their own devices?? I'm guessing your sister's neighbours will be gutted as they were no doubt glad to be shot of this ASBO family for a few days.

Anniegetyourgun · 23/12/2011 16:21

And best of all, you get to sleep in your own bed over the holiday. Virtue brings its own reward.

DigOfTheChristmasTreeStump · 23/12/2011 16:23

Well done to you, hope you can now enjoy your Christmas.

RagamuffinAndFidget · 23/12/2011 16:25

Well done for standing up to the rude cow your sister! I am Shock at her refusing to pay for the sink, if nothing else. Did you say your 'D'N is 10? Criminal damage maybe?

statueofliberty · 23/12/2011 16:26

Well done, wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas...now breath!

TheArmadillo · 23/12/2011 16:34

Xmas Shock at what they did but fantastically well done for standing up to them. Feel proud of yourself and have a lovely christmas.

theincredibequeenofwands · 23/12/2011 16:34

Loads of places are doing trees today for £1.

And I like the idea of telling other family members. Maybe do it round robin style with photos of your broken sink and bone of lamb?

And well done!! Santa will be PROUD!!

Xmas Grin
hermionestranger · 23/12/2011 16:36

Well done for standing upto them! I would drag them through small claims for the repair/tree/lamb bill! Merry christmas to you!

befuzzled · 23/12/2011 16:39

is she on MN? Send her link to this thread teh new year so perhaps she will realise what a selfish bitch she is. If I was staying at someone elses house, even family, and my kids made any sort of significant mess. I would be extreme;y apologetic and do everything in my power to clean/fix/replace it, as well telling them off. As would everyone else I know. Is she older or younger? Can't believe the way she has treated you.

OhdearNigel · 23/12/2011 16:39

At 10 years old I was babysitting ! Of course you should be able to leave two 10 year olds unsupervised.

You should remind her that 10 is the age of criminal responsibility, when a person is considered mature enough to understand the consequences of their actions and the difference between right and wrong. If a 10 year old is able to form the intent to commit a crime they are certainly capable of realising you don't jump onto basins and pull them off the wall

I do think it was in the nick of time from the sound of them.

I can hardly bear to think what further damage they might have done had they stayed.
