I am guilty of this massively at the moment so I put my hands up to it but hope it's only a phase (or I am doomed).
But how do other posters manage to be so active/prolific on here and still do parenting/RL? Are there not DPs/DCs looking over your shoulder wondering why you're spending so much time here? Are there ANY pressies being wrapped/turkeys getting stuffed at all?
Or have your families just given up on you and see this husk of a former mother tapping away at the computer... (typing each other to death, hah! No it isn't me btw).
Or do you do it on your phone thingies and so it just looks like texting/working out xmas budget on shopping app?

I use my phone Grin

Dustinthewind · 23/12/2011 09:22

I have teenagers and a partner, equal division of labour according to preference and skill base in this household.
So because we share the jobs that must be done, we all have spare time.

Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 09:29

My children are at school. I have an iPad so I can mn whilst watching swimming lessons or baking or sitting at gym practice.

It's not difficult.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 23/12/2011 09:30

I'm just extremely neglectful Xmas Grin

LovesBloominChristmas · 23/12/2011 09:30

On my phone whilst bf

Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 09:32

And fwiw
The shopping is done, the presents are under the tree, baking is done, dd had loads of friends over yesterday, I am taking ds2 out today, I have panto booked, rugby booked, beds are made, house is clean and dogs are walked. And it's only 9.30

I am fucking marvellous

SanTEEClaus · 23/12/2011 09:32

It is perfectly possible to take care of your children and have time for yourself. And I don't just mean turning on the telly.

trulyscrumptious43 · 23/12/2011 09:32

Ooh yes bf while MNing, very good....wish MN had existed when mine were weeny...and mobile phones...and electricity.....

Pag you truly are Grin

These threads inevitably head bunfightward. As people post Oooh yes prolific posters need to get a job / be better parents.

Then some one goes but I do have a job/ am parenting I am sat waiting for offspring to finish football.

Then someone goes ooooooh if your defending yourself that means you have a problem

And Pag, I and others go Xmas Confused, how can a load of Mnetters fight about mnetting, that's silly.

In answer to you op, erm no there is probably no hope for you Xmas Grin, sorry. But it's nice here.

mummymccar · 23/12/2011 09:42

Pregnant with my first and a writer with shocking procrastination issues here Xmas Grin

Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 09:42

Excellent thread précis Honeydragon Grin

I usually get arsy and point out that some mners are carers, or have illness or disability or other issues that make mn an important form of support, humour and company and why the fuck do people lack the imagination to figure that out before they start being bloody rude. But that is usually much later

vixsatis · 23/12/2011 09:45

Shocking procrastinator

HoneydragonAteCliffRichard · 23/12/2011 09:47

Well it us Xmas pag, we've saved people at least 200 posts so they can get straight into the insults Grin

I point out that as I work from home this is my office banter.

usualsuspect · 23/12/2011 09:47

My youngest DS is a teenager he spends a lot of time in front of laptop

I think it must be in our genes

Usual.... Definitely nature over nurture. Your cavemen ancestors were genetically programmed to sit and read the wall and draw on it whilst others just stared blankly at the flickering fire of an evening. Xmas Wink

trulyscrumptious43 · 23/12/2011 09:57

Ooh I really didn't mean to start a bunfight - was just curious! Think I'd just like a mental picture of how other Mners manage openly or covertly type each other to death (sorry sorry I should not keep saying that, bad SOH)
I just meant would be nice to have a picture of youse all in my mind.

LeQueen I don't watch TV either (don't have one), have several jobs (self employed) teenage DCs. House is not always very tidy and clean, I don't know how you do it!

At this point should someone say
This will not end well

Xmas Grin at honeydragon

TheMonster · 23/12/2011 10:00

I work full-time so tend to do MNing more in the holidays.
DP is at work.
DS is playing and watching TV.
The dogs are fighting.
We haven't done the food shopping and even when we have I certainly won't be stuffing a turkey.
I could be cleaning, but I'd rather be MNing.

trulyscrumptious43 · 23/12/2011 10:02

Gawd I'm just reading back my original post and can see how the tone is lost in translation.
I really did not mean that anyone is a slacker, I mean, how can we efficiently multitask typing and parenting?

Caveat: I know lots of the advice on here is worth its weight in gold, not knocking it at all

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 10:06

Your tone was ok truly - some of your responses are in anticipation of the way these threads often go.

Honestly, everyone lives differently. Mobile devices change things enormously and some of us people multiple task efficiently after a decade or so at this parenting malarky

hazeyjane · 23/12/2011 10:13

...and some of us are mumsnetting whilst their dds trash the house with a barbie film blaring in the background.

Pascha · 23/12/2011 10:14

I'm shockingly disorganised and a bit of a slacker really. I'm doing 10 minutes housework, 2 minutes MN over and over. Not satisfactory because I neither get the housework done or have time to talk bollocks on here. I currently have a little boy sitting on my foot, I have taken half an hour to clean up after breakfast which, frankly, could have taken me 15 minutes and we are yet to brush teeth and dress for the day.

Thats my 2mins up. See you later.

pip pip
