AIBU to want to lose baby weight asap

i'm thinking of joining slimming world pretty much as soon as babys here maybe after 2 or 3 weeks start the classes a friend done this and has lost all her baby weight her ds is only 15 weeks and tbh she looks better now that pre pg, but quite a few people have said it's far to soon and can't believe i'm even thinking about it yet (34 weeks) some have even suggested it wouldn't be healthy. DP's aunt (5 yrs older than me) had the cheek to suggest i should be focusing on my baby not myself like she did 4 dress sizes ago. Really want to know if i'm the only one that thinks it's ok?

To try to field any questions i won't be BF and if i did i would alter plan to allow for it (MW will advise), i want to do it because tho i am happy to get chubby in pregnancy i don't want to be afterward i want to feel attractive again (vain but i miss it) and i usually struggle to lose weight so don't want to leave it months gain more be unhappy and have a huge struggle to get loads of weight off.

Can i get some opinions on this??

heresthething there is nothing you can say that will make me feel guilty be it about BF or weight loss because i simply don't care what people like you think but there are others on here who you are giving a huge guilt trip to most of whom already feel guilty because they can't BF. It's not what your saying it's how you say it you come across as an arsey judgemental cow thats the problem.

FF is safe

MollyTheMole · 20/12/2011 14:44

runningwilde Love the desperate self-justification for the low bf rates in this country too...

Self justification? not from me, I BF Wink

KarenMillenCoat · 20/12/2011 14:46

The instructor at my gym told me that your body will actually hold on to some fat to support breastfeeding (which seemed to be the case for me, I shrunk visibly when I stopped at about a year) and a lot of women struggle to lose weight while feeding. Admittedly he didn't look like he had had many children but some women will say they lost weight and others that they retained it while feeding so it isn't an instant fix-all, unfortunately.

runningwilde · 20/12/2011 14:47

Oh heresthething, I'm so sorry to hear you have had such a hard time but please stop beating yourself up. How many kids do you have, dis you bf any of them?

troisgarcons · 20/12/2011 14:49

Last time I looked we were still living in a democracy and BFing wasn't compulsory.

By Christ I get pissed off with other people ramming their ideas down my throat.

An elective bottle feeder here as well.

No medical, cultural, social reason - I didn't want to - so I didn't. Glad we got that sorted.

OP - make your own decisions on what is right for you

SimoneD · 20/12/2011 14:50

heresthething - Im sorry if your child has health problems but how can you be sure that they were caused by ff. How can you be sure that your child wouldnt have these problems if you had bf? There are plently of ff babies that are perfectly healthy and conversely bf babies that have serious illnesses. There are other factors to consider in an illness process than just feeding.

MixedBerries · 20/12/2011 14:50

I bf too so no self-justification here either. No-one is not allowed to talk about bf and point out its benefits, but we are equally allowed to point out how rude it is when people press the point when it's already been put to rest by the OP. And there is such a thing as "tone" in the written word.

runningwilde · 20/12/2011 14:51

OP - you are confirming everything I have thought about you with your little rants, carry on why don't you, you are coming across sooooo well... Hmm

Molly - i know you bf

shagmundfreud · 20/12/2011 14:55

usual - that will be a matter of opinion.

Most people are prepared to go a very, very long way to protect their children from very remote risks - such as being snatched by a stranger, or poisoned by listeria. We assess risk by how fearful we are of the consequences. The consequences of a child being snatched are so horrific that we won't usually let our kids play in our front gardens unsupervised, despite the risk of anything happening to them being incredibly remote. We would say that allowing small children to play outside unwatched in a front garden is 'unsafe'. Why then is formula feeding then also not 'unsafe' given that it is linked with a doubling of the likelihood of SIDS?

OP - get used to being judged. It goes with the territory of parenting. People will judge you for not giving your baby the healthiest possible start in life, while being at the same time preoccupied with your own health and appearance. Shrug it off. You know your own heart and you will know if your values are right. Emotionally and physically breastfeeding is unsupportable for a small number of women. You will know if it's not possible for you to do this for your baby, and you just have to be strong in your own conviction.

runningwilde · 20/12/2011 14:55

Trois - people can only ram opinions down your throat if you let them. If you are not bothered why are you getting so pissed off? I never let people's opinions piss me off unless they bother me and that is very rare, certainly not people on an Internet forum

You are glad you didn't, I am glad I did. I don't give a jot if people think I am a lentil hippy for giving my babies amazing breastmilk - if anything some of the posts on here are amusing reading.

kiki22 · 20/12/2011 14:56

runningwilde again don't give a fuck what you think i can't come across any worse than you.

OP posts:
shagmundfreud · 20/12/2011 14:59

"some women will say they lost weight and others that they retained it while feeding"

Yes, some women will retain a small amount of fat while breastfeeding. But most will lose significant amounts of body fat if they are overweight at the start of the process. Hence breastfeeding being associated with lower rates of type 2 diabetes in women.

heresthething · 20/12/2011 14:59

simoned simple - what he's got is one of the clear and well known risks of FF, involves severe bowel damage and is horrible. Horrible.

Sorry you think I was being "an arsey judgemental cow" OP :) Come and walk a day in my DS's shoes and you'll think again.

I've passed on the info, I've been told I've been judgemental, that's all fine. Still confused as to where the judgemental part was but that's ok. You have the info. usualsuspect is factually wrong (ask a prem baby with necrotising enterocolitis, for instance) but hey, it's all good.

runningwilde thanks :) Yes, second was EBF and thank goodness escaped the problems that the first has - and it was found out later that if I had FF him then he would also have the same problems. Thank goodness some other arsey, judgemental cow passed me the information before I got to that stage :)

runningwilde · 20/12/2011 15:00

Yes Kiki love - it really sounds like you dont give a toss! Lollllllll

WorraLiberty · 20/12/2011 15:04

OP - you are confirming everything I have thought about you with your little rants, carry on why don't you, you are coming across sooooo well

I actually think the OP has been a Saint given the fact people are still banging on about her choice of how she'll be feeding her baby.

Many others would have told you to fuck off to the far side of fuck...and pointed out that you've said your bit about BF-ing....over and over again.

usualsuspect · 20/12/2011 15:04

ff is safe Grin

there I said it again

usualsuspect · 20/12/2011 15:05

I think everyones ignoring the ranters now

You can tell a ranter by the use of the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

runningwilde · 20/12/2011 15:05

Hmmm, worse than me?

Op - shallow, vain and self-obssesed. Talks about healthy lifestyle yet dismisses the healthy benefits of bf

Running - persevered with bf with two kids despite numerous problems as the benefits were so important

Also fit, active and nice weight by the way. Lots of running.

Rather be me than you any day op

runningwilde · 20/12/2011 15:07

MollyTheMole · 20/12/2011 15:11
