Sure he probably was lying. Maybe he wasn't and should have had the maturity to handle it differently, who knows, but for a random stranger to handle this KID in this way is horrific!

My mother sounded like Hilda Ogden when she was in the kitchen.

perfumedlife · 12/12/2011 10:35

Very well put Lesley. Of course, in this idealised version of life some have, police would arrive promptly to resolve every tiny dispute and fill out paperwork timeously, the bill to taxpayers would increase proportionally and we would not complain that we have big government and no money.

lesley33 · 12/12/2011 10:35

"and I am sure if the guy in Tescos wouldn't go...the Security would have called the Police"

Very unlikely actually. The police don't have time to tackle every little dispute and would expect the security guards to eject someone themselves. I know where I live, the police don't even respond to shoplifters caught with small amounts of goods.

perfumedlife · 12/12/2011 10:36

alistron I wouldn''t complain one bit if it was a teenage girl. Some teenage girls on trains have given me some of the worst frights of my life.

crazycrackernanna · 12/12/2011 10:36

Even the cat legs it when I start warbling.

demetersdaughter · 12/12/2011 10:38

We had cats but I think they must have been deaf.
When she sang angels wings fell off.
She managed to kill only the lonely by roy orbison so many times it was unbelievable.

alistron1 · 12/12/2011 10:38

Call me silly, but I don't want to be part of a society where 'big men' are congratulated for assaulting people.

crazycrackernanna · 12/12/2011 10:40

My crime to humanity is the murder of Al Green's Let's stick together.

perfumedlife · 12/12/2011 10:41

But what a great song crazycrackernanna Grin

crazycrackernanna · 12/12/2011 10:42

It is when not sung by me Grin

RealLifeIsForWimps · 12/12/2011 10:47

But Allistron I don't want to be part of a society which is being eroded by the drip drip drip of anti-social behaviour and casual low-level criminality which has absolutely no consequences.

I mean, do the posters who suggested calling the police seriously think the CPS are going to do anything about this? Really? It's not worth it. The whole problem with the criminal justice system is that it's just too expensive to deal with this minor stuff, but it's broken window syndrome. Nothing gets done about it, so it continues and becomes more prevalent, and communities are completely disempowered from dealing with it.

demetersdaughter · 12/12/2011 10:50

Where I live you can have a 24 hour wait for anti social behaviour problems.
I think the police hide in mcdonalds or KFC.
To be honest you've got to self police society without the police because in some cases/areas they quite simply are not there.

Redlac - I've watched it several times. The man is seated behind the boy and behind a perspex barrier. He gets up and comes over and the boy hasn't even turned around to look at him before he grabs him.

The boy has his attention on the conductor and probably had no idea he was even there before he spoke to the conductor and from the moment he speaks things happen very quickly. And when BigMan speaks he is still standing behind the boy. The first time the boy sees him is when BigMan grabs him.

If you watch it again you will see that.

And the conductor is the first to call BigMan "Big Man", plus it's in the subtitles on the video, and he's called it at least twice afterwards while people are laughing and clapping.

The comment by the person who posted the video says "Don't mess with the Big Man" as well. It's not surprising that people have picked up on it.

And I'll say again, my biggest issue is the fact that so many people are enjoying this and saying the boy "got what he deserved" and I don't really think that he did. It was reckless towards the other passengers and violent to someone who wasn't being violent themselves. The transport police should have been called, that's what he deserved.

Morloth · 12/12/2011 10:54

Doesn't matter if you want to live in a society like that or not.

You do, humans have a pecking order, mostly the gobby little snots will be able to intimidate the people surrounding them, but every now and again they will run into someone who will push back and possibly push harder.

That's the way it goes. Not everyone is afraid of violence. Peersonally I think: Annoying little shit, train held up, annoying shit removed from train, train no longer delayed, problem solved, no further action needed.

redlac · 12/12/2011 10:57

the teenager must have been deaf then NOT to hear him say "Do you want a hand getting him off the train" The laddie would have know and been aware of what was going on around him. Maybe if the man had just stood at the side of him glowering at him it would have been enough to get him to move, who knows?

Again Big Man is used a lot in Scotland, probably the same as Mate is used down south, the Man doesn't even have to be big for it to be used

As for the Transport Police - I've not see an office for the transport police at that station (Linlithgow) and I "think" the nearest office is in Stirling (or Edinburgh) which is about 30 minutes away by car.

crazycrackernanna · 12/12/2011 10:58

Ok I'm off guys.
Got to earn a few bob and the daily grind calls. Smile
Need to earn so to pay my train fare so that I don't get thrown on the tracks by superman without his drawers on Wink

demetersdaughter · 12/12/2011 10:59

Have a nice day crazy and remember to pay that fare :)

TeddyBare · 12/12/2011 11:10

Does anyone know if the big man got arrested for assault? He definitely should have been!

FanjoForTheReindeerJumper · 12/12/2011 11:19

Apparently the Procurator Fiscal found no case to answer due to the young guys verbal outburst..clearly people here think they know better though

FanjoForTheReindeerJumper · 12/12/2011 11:22

Scots law is quite common sense based IMO

redlac · 12/12/2011 11:29

As predicted he is on facebook boasting about his antics. Student at Heriot Watt - his parents must be so proud!

dontletthebellsend · 12/12/2011 11:31

I don't think it was that bad at all. It was more manhandling than assault and a direct consequence of his actions. I was expecting to see an 8 year old being thrown up in the air, not a fully grown person being bundled off a train after a good few minutes of being told to get off. One individual shouldn't have the power to hold up train after train after train for the want of a firm hand on his shoulder. It only got a bit rough because he made it so, the Big Man was calm.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourMincePies · 12/12/2011 11:32

I don't know about deaf redlac but when BigMan spoke the conductor was also speaking and he was very loud. BigMan has quite a quiet voice and the boy has his attention on the louder man in front of him.

I had to rely on the subtitles to make sense of what BigMan said at that point because the conductor was much louder.

I think it's very possible he didn't really hear or register that BigMan was there until he took another step forward and grabbed him.

dontletthebellsend · 12/12/2011 11:35

He left school in 2010 and is at university so is probably 19. Old enough to get of a train when caught fare dodging.

redlac · 12/12/2011 11:36

you found his facebook page too then bellsend? :) He's been on his way back from Heriot Watt to Falkirk and thought he would chance his arm
