to have a quick nose at DSIL's bank statement when she nipped out the room?

C'mon, everyone does it.

Grin

I'd nipped round this afternoon to have a coffee and discuss Boxing Day arrangements with her any excuse. She wanted to show me what she'd bought for the DC and pooped out to the garage to fetch it, so I sprung into action and had a quick squizz at the Halifax statement sticking out her paperwork basket where she keeps this stuff. Wink

I'm pretty certain that I managed to jump away in time as she came back in the room, therefore covering my tracks.

I'm not BU am I?

(lots of interesting transactions on the account btw Grin)

YABU, but then she is BU for pooping in the garage.

StNicksNackered · 08/12/2011 20:49

Yanbu I would do the same!

FunnysInTheGarden · 08/12/2011 20:49

depends if it revealed anything interesting

NinkyNonker · 08/12/2011 20:50

Sounds interesting!!

I expect most people would glance at something left in plain sight...which is why we only do internet banking and everything else is upstairs!

Iggly · 08/12/2011 20:51

You deliberately rummaged? Bit different if it was out in full view but to rummage?!

pud1 · 08/12/2011 20:51

I am a total nosey dbbitch who would not have been able not to look. What was on it

HecateGoddessOfTwelfthNight · 08/12/2011 20:51
Shock

Chaos! I am shocked at you. Naughty naughty naughty!

Yes you were unreasonable. What a gross invasion of her privacy! 39 minutes on the naughty step for you!

Does she have much money then?

DamnBamboo · 08/12/2011 20:51

No not everybody does it!

How nosy are you? You actually look at something stashed away (albeit probably badly)? If it was on a table for all to see, fair enough, but really!
I hope she is way richer than you and it makes you Envy

CadleCap · 08/12/2011 20:51

YABU - but only because you haven't told us if she is loaded and stingy with presents or skint and pretending she 's not Grin

troisgarcons · 08/12/2011 20:52

YABU actually. Do you poke through her bedside drawers and see if your brother wears a cock ring and a batman mask as well?

DamnBamboo · 08/12/2011 20:52

trois Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 08/12/2011 20:52

It wasn't in full view, she has a basket by her frigde, I just had a flip through quickly in the hope of finding something interesting.

OP posts:
DamnBamboo · 08/12/2011 20:53

Cadle it really gets me when people think that if you're rich, you should spend a lot on presents.

Why the hell should they?

Maybe they're rich because they don't waste their money!

PrincessWellington · 08/12/2011 20:53

Did you check out the poop too? Grin

LePruneDeMaTante · 08/12/2011 20:54

No, I wouldn't do it.
I don't think it's funny.

DamnBamboo · 08/12/2011 20:54

So you still looked for it.
YABVU. Out of curiousity, why do you care how much money they have?

My brother is always trying to find out what I'm worth and for the life of me, I can't figure out why.

picnicbasketcase · 08/12/2011 20:54

Shock You nosy, cheeky devil you.

Totally would've done the same thing

TattyDevine · 08/12/2011 20:55

You monkey.

I always tell DH to stop leaving his payslips around, particularly the end of year one or bonus one, because I'm sure people do this!!!

Is she considerably richer than yow?

SinicalSal · 08/12/2011 20:55

no chaos that's wrong wrong wrong...

I'm surprised people would do it - worried now

TheOriginalFAB · 08/12/2011 20:57

I don't do it and wouldn't. Do unto others and all that.

munstersmum · 08/12/2011 20:57

YABU
Would you be happy if she checked out your private letters / text messages?

troisgarcons · 08/12/2011 20:58

I actually wouldnt - and im a terrible gossip listener - but then I dont poke through bathroom cabinets either, and I've house sat and never even opened anything other than the kitchen drawers I was shown.

mynewpassion · 08/12/2011 20:58

So you went nosing around and now proud of yourself. Unbelievable. Thank god you aren't my relative.

I've never ever looked at my family members' or friends bank statements even if it was plain view. Finances are private info and its none of my business. Always taught that asking about other people's finances is rude and bad form.

I would never do this and am a little shocked that so many people are saying they would - assume/hope they are joking?!

It scares me that they aren't joking as freely trust friends / in laws in my house without me in there watching their every move and would feel very upset if any of them did this.
