Asked to leave because our dog was offending the Muslim children?

We went to watch ds2 play football at a local sports centre yesterday. He was playing on the astroturf which was next to a field. We stood on the field to watch with the dog on a lead. The caretaker came over about 2 minutes later and asked us to leave, not because dogs aren't allowed, but because apparently our black dog was offending the Muslim children in the arts centre next door. We saw some parents dropping children off as we arrived but other than that we were nowhere near any Muslim children. Apparently complaints had been made because we had the dog on the site, we refused to leave at first but the caretaker got the site manager. I am planning on making a complaint but before I send it am I right in thinking this is bonkers? I understand that dogs are unclean but he was on a lead? Seems like a very strange policy, apparently the dog was "worse" because he is black?

Sounds mental.

Bizarre! Confused

Confused

I'd complain to someone. I think.

How very odd. Are black dogs more unclean? My white dog is far dirtier than my black dogs.

This sounds like there have been some crossed wires somewhere, - either at the arts centre, or with the caretaker or something. I would definitely write to clear this matter up, but I find it very hard to believe that 'black dogs are banned because they upset muslim children'. I think this must be a misunderstanding.

WTF?? Muslims are offended by dogs? Muslims are offended particularly by black dogs??

Something's got muddled along the way there, that's so bonkers it can't possibly be right.

Debs75 · 05/12/2011 15:16

If dogs are usually allowed on the field then you are right to be annoyed but if dogs are not usualy allowed then yabu by taking him. Whichever I think the bit about a black dog upsetting muslim children who were in a room nowhere near you is a bit insane

Crap. I know plenty of Middle Eastern Muslims with dogs. I have met some North Africans who happen to be Muslims who spout that they 'aren't allowed' dogs.

YuleingFanjo · 05/12/2011 15:18

Are you sure the caretaker wasn't just being a twat?

Alouisee · 05/12/2011 15:18

Who would Muslims be offended by dogs?

Angelswings · 05/12/2011 15:19

Speechless

Get0rf · 05/12/2011 15:19

This is bollocks. Not saying the OP is making it up, but that there was a crossed line somewhere.

But yes let's bring on the frothers ranting about sharia law

Yes, madness just about covers it and I don't even like dogs.

Was the caretaker / site manager muslim?

There must be huge part of this story missing. Confused

tigermoll · 05/12/2011 15:22

It is true that in the Islamic faith there is something of a prohibition about dogs and their cleanliness. The prophet also seems to have spoken out especially about black dogs.

However, it seems highly unlikely that a muslim would be so offended by the sight of a black dog seen through a window on a field that it would be justifiable for the sports centre to have rule about it. Again, I am sure there have been crossed wires somewhere.

MsCellophane · 05/12/2011 15:22

Not sure where it comes from or why but we have delivery driver that will not enter our gate due to the big black dog. It is a muslim thing/belief

seeker · 05/12/2011 15:23

Either

You misunderstood, or
the caretaker misunderstood.

Or this is a deliberately inflammatory thread. To which at least one loon has already risen.
