To wonder if its fair that some forces children get fees paid at private schools?

A few old friends of mine have their children at good private boarding schools due to ninety percent of the fees being paid for by the forces. I am perfectly aware that I may be being unreasonable for even questioning this, but it just seems wrong?
One of the girls has gone to a school hundreds of miles away from where her family live so that she would be eligible.

i already told you my kids aren't and never have been in boarding school, nikon. dd1 is in her 6th school in yr 7, because of our 'lifestyle choices' and intent on keeping the family together (rofl)

dh left this summer anyway. i left two years ago. you make your own choices, but any fool that believes cea is a perk has literally no clue about the military.

at all.

enjoy your ignorance.

Gonzo33 · 05/12/2011 19:24

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay forces wives out in force (erm pardon the pun).

My children are with me but we have seriously thought about whether boarding for our eldest (youngest is not 2 yet) would be the better option. However as we are posted back to UK soon and it will see hubby to his 22 we are going to go unaccompanied and hubby will weekly commute.

I was a forces child and moved around substantially prior to becoming 5, then my parents went unaccompanied for my education. If I am honest I think I would have preferred to go to boarding school. By the way serving personnel got an allowance for boarding school then, and that was 29 years ago Xmas Shock

By the way we are in Cyprus at the moment and we can't afford to go back to UK and see our families because we are saving hard for a house. Think about that when your sitting around the table with yours on Christmas day. Before you say it was our choice to move, I can assure you it was not. I was made redundant and we could not afford to run the house and live in 2 different countries.

miSaltireandwine · 05/12/2011 19:28

Surely the words "perks" and "military" shouldn't go together in the same sentenceHmm

reelingintheyears · 05/12/2011 19:29

at all the moaners.

Leave the force's families alone, life's too short and hard enough without being jealous.

nikon1968 · 05/12/2011 19:29

But it is a lifestyle choice can you not see that.

I will have my whole family here for the week christmas eve until 2 jan because we made the choices to live and work within an hour of each other.

We see each other often, all get on and due to careful choices with jobs and houses I live a lovely life with my family and close friends always around.

Life is all about choices some are taken out of your hands but your choice of job is not.

nikon1968 · 05/12/2011 19:30

I will leave the forces families alone now they have made their bed and they can lie in it as far as I am concerned.

reelingintheyears · 05/12/2011 19:32

Smile at Nikon.

GingerWrath · 05/12/2011 19:34

Anyone else see a high horse tall pony?

madwomanintheattic · 05/12/2011 19:36

you say it like it's a bad thing Grin

thankfully, some people put their own personal comfort to one side here and there for the benefit of the country as a whole. i can see that sort of selflessness might not suit or be possible for everyone (and nor should it), but fortunately (for you and your comfort) a few do continue to make that choice. Smile

enjoy christmas. maybe you might be moved to flick the tv on at some point and watch the ssvc broadcasts from afghanistan and the soldiers sending christmas wishes to their loved ones.

no? thought not. have a festive yule, anyway.

forceslover · 05/12/2011 19:46

Nikon, what do you do for a living or your husband? Can we then rip the decisions you have made to shreds?

nikon1968 · 05/12/2011 19:54

I would not discuss personal details of my life on here, I have a brain in my head.

forceslover · 05/12/2011 19:56

I doubt Nikon, I doubt it very much!

Perhaps you are what people call a troll, or do you just have the personality of one?

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 05/12/2011 19:58

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr non forces children, husbands, wives, parents etc will NEVER understand. I honestly don't think that there isn't a branch of the forces that someone in my family hasn't been in. From Chief of General Staff down, we've had it covered. I am and always will be so proud to be related to them all. But, more than anything, I have a deep admiration for the Military Wives - I couldn't do what you do all of you up there you're bloody marvellous too.

Lt.Eve, I am so sorry to hear that news. Sending you love and best wishes.

nikon1968 · 05/12/2011 20:00

I find it stunning on this forum that if you disagree with someone or lots of people you get called a troll, can you simply not believe that everyone has not got the same opinion or has the forces dumbed your brain and you are all like sheep.

Bored now should of give up with this thread ages ago but I am like a little jack russell once I get my teeth into something.

acumenin · 05/12/2011 20:04

You get called a troll when you abuse people by telling them they are dumbed down sheep.

Because it is trolling.

GingerWrath · 05/12/2011 20:04

Bored now, I Spy anyone?

natation · 05/12/2011 20:04

Aren't you so lucky Nikon. How about the fact my job was moved country overnight in 2004, so was hubby's, requiring a 2 1/2 hour commute to get to work, compare that to the original reason for buying a house a 10 minute cycle ride to work. So next you'll be saying it was my choice to stay in the job and not go and find another job - well easier said than done. And good for you, with your lovely life of having family and friends around you!!! God how you write so annoys me, ok be self-congratulatory, instead of thinking of your wonderful life, perhaps you might want to reflect a few minutes each day on the fact that other people don't always have the best things in life.

GingerWrath · 05/12/2011 20:05

And it's Forces with a capital F, even the Daily Fail gets that right.

reelingintheyears · 05/12/2011 20:05

Hey Nikon....you do keep saying you're going...Xmas Smile

madwomanintheattic · 05/12/2011 20:05

something to hide? Grin

well, it's been a real pleasure chatting to you, nikon. i hope you are as satisfied with your personal contribution to wider society as you seem to be, and are content with your own (top secret) choices.

(am having a little titter about 'brain in my head' though. perhaps we could easily move the conversation around on that note to the next usual step, which is that all members of the military are as thick as mince? no? it was a nice lead-in, nikon. never been mentioned on here before, oh no.)

forceslover · 05/12/2011 20:11
