AIBU to think he is a prize prat I don't care if he is trying to be funny and shocking he is just another reason why I never have and never will vote Tory.

Everyone rises to the bait every time though with JC though. It's quite a good game for him!

SinicalSal · 01/12/2011 11:37

Rising to the bait can be good clean fun.

Don't rise if you don't like it yada yada Grin

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 11:40

Exactly Sinical. I actually think he's quite funny.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 01/12/2011 11:42

I love Clarkson, and I agree it is hysterical that people let themselves get so wound up by him Grin

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 11:43

Because he was actually going to line them up and shoot them you know. Hmm

TheRhubarb · 01/12/2011 11:45

rycooler - I sit on the fence with the strikes.

I get the anger and I think we all need to feel that anger so much more. However the strikes only served to punish us, not the government. They don't use public services. A one day strike will not change their minds.

I would love to work in a sector where I get a guaranteed pension. Even at the rates the government are suggesting, you cannot get a better pension deal anywhere else. Public sector workers are protected quite well, far better than private sector workers. We are all suffering with the cuts and the recession and tbh I see the private sector hit so much harder, with many of them losing their pensions altogether and being forced to accept pay cuts let alone pay freezes.

There should be a general strike, not just a public sector one.

TheRhubarb · 01/12/2011 11:46

Yeah, shoot 'em up! Wink

porcamiseria · 01/12/2011 11:46

not everyone thinks the strikers have a piont you know

BuntyPenfold · 01/12/2011 11:47

I thought it was plainly the old tosser's idea of wit; the presenters looked embarrassed.
It must be a bit like having your dad dancing at the school disco to them.

Lambzig · 01/12/2011 11:50

sainsbury's had his book and DVD placed very prominently this morning, so I expect he has achieved what he wanted.

Someone I work with (extremely good looking 20 something) got drunk at the christmas party last year and told me about her recurring sexual fantasies about Jeremy Clarkson. I havent been able to look at her without cringing for nearly a year now.

Lambzig · 01/12/2011 11:51

sorry for the random apostrophe

AntiqueAnteater · 01/12/2011 11:53

just another reason why I never have and never will vote Tory.

PMSL! he has a book to sell in time for christmas, how else will he generate publicity except with controversy. You are thick if you think X-factor, Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr and all the others dont do exactly the same thing.

And as for never voting for a particular party. That is equally as thick. I vote for the policies not the party.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 11:54

I have bought my Dad the book for Christmas and DS1 wants the video. Grin

MunchingNoPickles · 01/12/2011 11:55
Grin
NICEyNice · 01/12/2011 11:55

Hehe yeah, I'm not voting for X because Y supports them. Very mature and intelligent decision making process there.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2011 11:57

Bloody hell video?! That will be DVD obviously. Turning into my mother

grovel · 01/12/2011 11:57

Unison, the union, are taking legal advice about our Jeremy's comments and are going to report him to the police.

Cretins.

SinicalSal · 01/12/2011 11:59

Anteater most policies are the party, broadly, you're not going to get the Tories arguing for more social welfare and public services. that's their platform, it's not thick to recognise where they stand on the broad issues and whether you agree with that.

I saw a good tweet the other day 'Unions! the people who brought you the weekend!'
Unions on the whole are A Good Thing.

Whatmeworry · 01/12/2011 11:59

His schtick is to stir up shit, gets people talking about him which drives book sales, media appearances etc.

rycooler · 01/12/2011 12:00

It's a bit like people who search the internet with the sole purpose of being offended,

'have you SEEN this T.Shirt! - it only took me 6 days of trawling through sites but fuck me I found it - look LOOK!!! I'm so offended I can hardly breathe!!!!!!

Morloth · 01/12/2011 12:00

Like fish in a barrel ;)

coolascucumber · 01/12/2011 12:04

Thought I'd look on the BBC and make my own mind up about JC's comments but it isn't available on iPlayer (other One Shows available), off to YouTube now to see if I can find it....

Iggly · 01/12/2011 12:07

Well the fact the JC hangs about in the same social circles as David Cameron says it all really

NICEyNice · 01/12/2011 12:08

The Unions could do with learning a great deal more about PR and winning general support. Taking legal action is a) dumb and petty beyond belief b) like shooting yourself in the head to kill a fly thats bothering you.

Honestly. I despair over how the whole strike thing is being handled by them.

Yesterday, the thing that pissed me off, wasn't the fact people were striking. I think people should be allowed to if they think they have a cause. It was the number of people taking it as an unpaid jolly. My facebook feed was full of friends making cakes and going on shopping trips to the Trafford Centre.

To me, if you are going to strike, you should be on the picket line or on a march making your point heard.

I had the upmost respect for the one person on my facebook who was so proud of his 6 year old son going with his mum to the picketlines.

If you want to win support for the strikes, which is an important part to winning the strikes, then doing dumbassed things like taking legal action against JC or apathetically sitting on your arse at home aren't really going to help you win hearts and minds.

NinkyNonker · 01/12/2011 12:08

Jeremy Vine on R2 currently discussing the advice that the media need to be more careful when inciting hatred against public sector workers, especially as they are the acknowledged scapegoats here.

I do laugh at JC I admit, at being the operative word.

And yes Sarah, you're right, mushroom get dragged in!
