To get annoyed at sister more or less calling DH stupid on Facebook status?

DH reposted one of those chain status things about the government banning the word christmas because it was offensive to minorities and that british people should be able to celebrate our religion and cultures without worrying about upsetting minorities and we should be proud of being British etc.

Any my sister has just uploaded a status saying "nobody is banning christmas, think some people need to stop believing everything they read in the sun".

This is blatently a passive aggressive dig at DH. AIBU to call her up on it and tell her to delete it?

Someone on my Facebook list had a reply to those statuses on her page it was "There is a silly Facebook status doing the rounds at the moment claiming that some people say Merry Christmas is racist. This is a vile status started by a small minded troll who is only interested in spreading hatred and mistrust. There are very very few people who will find any sort of reference to Christmas offensive, it is a myth which is continued when people copy and paste without thinking about the truth behind it. Also, for the record, Christmas is not a British or English celebration exclusively. People of many nationalities celebrate so for it to be suggested that Muslim or Jewish people find it racist is ludicrous. They are religious faiths.How many of you have actually seen a status or heard from someone that they find Merry Christmas offensive? I'm betting not many of you. Christmas is supposed to be about peace and love so please remember the sentiment behind the Merry Christmas that you are claiming to protect."

I am with your sister, and if your DH was on my facebook friends I would have told him that it was not original, it is not even factually correct, and anyone posting it looks like a twat.

I'm with your sister. I hate this bandwagon jumping on facebook, and I think those people who do it are stupid. Who has actually told your DH he can't say Christmas? No one's ever told me I can't celebrate, and probably no one has told your DH, therefore, he's being a stupid bandwagon jumper.

Don't get annoyed. I know a few nice, intelligent people who have major brain fails of this nature.

Good on your sister for actually pointing it out. Maybe your DH will think a little bit deeper and use his own words from now on to express his 'outrage'.

Mind you, if you were his sister I would tell you that you should expect a load of flack for pointing out the bleeding obvious as there's a lot of stupid people in the world. From experience I know its never pretty to be right, not on FB. Just hide it would be my advice.

I also think those chain status of that type have a lot of underlying racist tones too.. so maybe it is your DH you should be considering as passive aggressive... but then if you agree with him.. well.....

Your sister is allowed her opinion (she's right!), just as much as your DH is allowed to paste whatever he likes onto his status. He might want to do some fact-checking beforehand though, because this smacks of Daily Mail overreactive journalism yet again.

You were right to point out that your sister was being passive agressive about it though. Instead of saying 'some people' she should have directed it her comment straight at your DH ;-)
