To get annoyed at sister more or less calling DH stupid on Facebook status?

TakemetoItaly · 28/11/2011 18:18

DH reposted one of those chain status things about the government banning the word christmas because it was offensive to minorities and that british people should be able to celebrate our religion and cultures without worrying about upsetting minorities and we should be proud of being British etc.

Any my sister has just uploaded a status saying "nobody is banning christmas, think some people need to stop believing everything they read in the sun".

This is blatently a passive aggressive dig at DH. AIBU to call her up on it and tell her to delete it?

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 28/11/2011 18:53

I would have posted it on your DH's wall

And the 'more or less' wouldn't have entered into it when I called him stupid

Yabu - good on your sister! I usually ignore and delete as a friend, wish I had the balls to stand up to somebody spouting this nonsense!

Limejelly · 28/11/2011 18:55

Ok, your DH seriously believes that the word 'Christmas' has been banned? Hmm

How utterly ridiculous.

That is all.

TheAlmostFestiveKnid · 28/11/2011 18:56

Are you serious? Hmm

YABU, your sister is very reasonable.

Incidentally, your husband's status was far more passive-aggressive than your sister's post and rather stupid .

Serenitysutton · 28/11/2011 18:56

I agreewith your sister and also tend to think people who post such things are a bit simple (as, often, are the passive aggressive "response" status' like the one upthread)

Jux · 28/11/2011 18:56

It's a load of bollocks and your dh should have known that as it was all over the place last year and the year before and the year before that .....

Your sister is quite right to stop it in it's tracks.

Jux · 28/11/2011 18:57

Oh and she can't show up your dh more than he has himself already.

MrsWembley · 28/11/2011 18:59

Gawd, I love a unanimous thread!

YADBU - it was racist for your husband to post and think such things and stupid for him to believe without questioning a chain status update.

So I am calling your husband a stupid racist.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 28/11/2011 19:13

Well, anyone who actually believes that is stupid, so she's just stating a fact.

Pagwatch · 28/11/2011 19:16

I don't think I have ever seen this before. Mn as one voice

andthisisme · 28/11/2011 19:33

Fair play to your sister, I've had one person post this so far. They (and a couple more, for other offensive to my eyeballs bollocks) are on my list. One more ignorant, ridiculous, ill-informed utter load of shit posts from them, they are gone.

I only wish I had the balls to post what your sister did!

Do you agree with the post OP?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 28/11/2011 19:33

Grin oh dear...

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 28/11/2011 19:35

A friend of mine (well actually mum of a friend) posted this earlier today...
I clicked on it ready to write a version of what your sister said...
And had been beaten to it by about ten people!!

andthisisme · 28/11/2011 19:41

SamMiguel That is fab and I may steal it!

IneedAbetterNickname · 28/11/2011 19:43

YABU! I have a couple of people on my fb who have posted that status too, they are normally lovely so I was surprised! I commented with something very similar to your sister! (Plus the fact that this is the 3rd year I have seen this, or a very similar, copy and paste thing!)

MenopausalHaze · 28/11/2011 19:48

Can you tell us which bit of your DH stands out as particularly NOT stupid then OP? Only to me he sounds just slightly cerebrally constipated and your sister was absolutely right, and then some!

toadnotfrog · 28/11/2011 19:50

YABU

Well done your sister for pointing out how ridiculous it is. Did you dh also repost the one about 'baa baa rainbow sheep'?

I just unfriend people who post that kind of shite.

notjustme · 28/11/2011 19:56

I just logged on to Facebook to see a 'friend' has posted exactly the same status and someone has picked him up on it, which has ended in a 'don't call me racist, i'm not racist' argument from him but I know he is, he thinks nothing of using terms like 'paki' and 'chinky' and it's disgusting.

This status 'chain' is nothing but a load of racist twaddle - who in their right mind thinks Christmas is a British tradition? Or a Christmas tree is? Neither are British traditions, and anyone who posts these statuses are fools. And anyone who posts the status and then tries to claim they are not racist is, at the least, misguided.

Lilithmoon · 28/11/2011 19:58

YABU wow I am so in the in crowd

FantasticVoyage · 28/11/2011 20:02

I think OP should be more concerned about what her husband's Facebook friends in the workplace would think of such a stupid posting.

Unless husband works for the BNP of course.

OrmIrian · 28/11/2011 20:05

If he beleives that I think he may well be a little hard of thinking.

Neuromantic · 28/11/2011 20:06

Bullshit alert.

LoveInAColdClimate · 28/11/2011 20:07

YANU. And your DH is being stupid and racist. I would be mortified if my DH posted that.
