To get annoyed at sister more or less calling DH stupid on Facebook status?

TakemetoItaly · 28/11/2011 18:18

DH reposted one of those chain status things about the government banning the word christmas because it was offensive to minorities and that british people should be able to celebrate our religion and cultures without worrying about upsetting minorities and we should be proud of being British etc.

Any my sister has just uploaded a status saying "nobody is banning christmas, think some people need to stop believing everything they read in the sun".

This is blatently a passive aggressive dig at DH. AIBU to call her up on it and tell her to delete it?

OP posts:
LoveInAColdClimate · 28/11/2011 20:08

Ooops, should read YABU...

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 28/11/2011 20:20

Those stupid "chain" posts are the sign of the utterly brainless and secretly (or not) racist. Your sister was very restrained.

ihatecbeebies · 28/11/2011 20:28

YABU and your DH was being stupid to repost, did he not think to maybe research the claims in the statement before he posted, considering the significance of what he was posting?

JugsMcGee · 28/11/2011 20:36

YABU, it's a stupid status. And there seem to be a lot of people posting it so your sister's comment may not have been directly aimed at your DH. But even if it is, she is not BU.

tethersend · 28/11/2011 20:40

This almost certainly happened.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 28/11/2011 21:01

who reckons it was the OP that posted it herself not having a DH and all
and had someone put her right Grin

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 28/11/2011 21:41

Are you the sister OP?

picnicbasketcase · 28/11/2011 21:46

OP has chickened out and buggered off then.

That whole 'Christmas is being replaced with Winterval to avoid causing offence to Muslims!' hysterical bullcrap really gets my festive goat. If anyone on my list had that status, I would also point them to all the links PROVING that it's not true, and showing the newspaper in question apologising and admitting it was a load of shit.

flatbread · 28/11/2011 21:57

MN Award for the only unanimous AIBU thread to date!

(Has there been any other in living memory...?)

Do you agree with him OP?

mumofthreekids · 28/11/2011 22:19

Feeling v smug that none of my FB friends have reposted this status...

hopenglory · 28/11/2011 22:20

yep, YABU - and your sister is far more polite than I would have been

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/11/2011 22:53

None of my FB friends has posted it either. Probably helps that my friends know what a ranty leftie I am how I feel about that. I did get one about Britain being full a while ago so maybe he posted it. I wouldn't get it since the defriending was swift in that case.

himynameisfred · 28/11/2011 22:56

Your husband was incredibly stupid to post that inflamatry closet racist bollox

hellsbells76 · 28/11/2011 23:08

None of mine have either. But I culled all the thick racist twats some time ago...

flyingspaghettimonster · 28/11/2011 23:19

Maybe if we all deleted anyone who made even slightly racist comments then they'd get the message it is unacceptable.

Cathycomehome · 28/11/2011 23:29

One of my FB friends posted this too. I'd like to say I was surprised, as she always seemed lovely in real life (she used to work at our village shop),but since being FB friends, I have come to realise she has some very bigoted and ignorant odd views.

What's more worrying is that a former SN teaching assistant at our school has "liked" this status of hers....

WanderingSheep · 28/11/2011 23:36

Maybe she wasn't just aiming it at your DH, maybe there are more idiots of her FB friends who have posted the same chain status as your DH and she's getting annoyed with them and aiming it at them all.

YABU

Pandemoniaa · 29/11/2011 00:55

In the last week I've blocked two people and reported one for inciting racial hatred following the tide of racist shyte that's currently appearing all over Facebook. The reported person was a friend of a (now former) friend who, when I politely pointed out that nobody had banned the word Christmas, responded with a tirade that contained words I wouldn't even repeat in the privacy of my own home. Even Oswald Mosley would have flinched...

So actually, I think the OP's sister was remarkably restrained since stupid barely covers the measure of fuckwittedness committed in this instance.

I really dislike Facebook. If it weren't that it remains a useful way to keep in touch with far distant family, I'd have dumped it ages ago.

TroublesomeEx · 29/11/2011 01:01

I'm guessing that since the OP hasn't returned, this is a wind up, but just for the fun of it...

YABU.

Your DH is a knob. (wow second time today I've called someone that on here. The first was Michael Gove!)

I'm with your sister.

Anyone who reposts that sort of nonsense deserves to get challenged on it.

workshy · 29/11/2011 01:07

this facebook status was doing the rounds last christmas and I got fed up of arguing with people about it so I have a new policy o immeadiately deleting anyone of my friends that post racist twaddle

no qestions, no second chances

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 29/11/2011 01:18

I wrote a beautifully sarcastic response on one of those proud to be 'e'nglish statuses earlier......and he deleted it ! ( the status that is )

Thruaglassdarkly · 29/11/2011 01:41

I'm with your DS too. Your husband should have more sense - it's not the minority groups that hate Christmas, it's other people objecting (misguidedly) on their behalf. Don't be drawn into their narrative. Most muslims revere Jesus more than most Brits.
