What's the problem?

WetAugust · 17/11/2011 17:58

You are definitely being vvvvvpfb!

OldGreyWassailTest · 17/11/2011 17:58

Ummmmm..........? And the problem is?

HalfTermHero · 17/11/2011 17:59

YABU. It might not be how you would do things at home but in the scheme of things it is really not a big issue. Whilst DD is away from you she might as well be enjoying herself and having a nice time.

catgirl1976 · 17/11/2011 18:00

I wouldnt be happy on the grounds that no way should they be eating whilst watching tv. How is that teaching them how to behave at a table? And why are you paying them to shove your child in front of a tv? YANBU on both thoise points.

Tillyscoutsmum · 17/11/2011 18:00

pre-school ?? So, she's 3 or 4 ??

YABU and very very PFB. Please don't say anything. You will be laughed at

guzzlepuzzle · 17/11/2011 18:01

hmm i think yab a bit u ....how long is she at nursery for? did they watch something on c beebies that was linked to a theme they are covering e.g autumn watch or something?
I think u need to see if it happens again and then mention it ...but its not going to do them any harm if its a short amount of t.v once a week if they spend a full week there ....also do u allow more than 1 hour a day at home? i know i do!! However your not paying for her to watch tv ..i get that too.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 17/11/2011 18:01

It's a bit crap that they're doing it when eating - missing out on some opportunities there. But I wouldn't have a problem with them watching telly, no. We all need some 'down' time to sit and stare at pretty pictures catching flies.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 17/11/2011 18:02

It's fine, as long as it's not for too long.

Are you sure it was actually while they were eating tea? Perhaps it was after tea while the staff cleaned up and set out the next activities.

VeryHungryKatypillar · 17/11/2011 18:02

Ok, so first responses make me glad I checked here first rather than wade in with my size sevens....

but seriously, television with no 'learning opportunities'? Is that something that a pre-school should use more than once in a blue moon? I love Cbeebies, its fab, but I'd rather choose when DD watches it. But Toy Story is a different thing surely?

I'd be pissed off about this. I don't mind a bit of TV but I think TV during meal times is a really bad habit to get into.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 17/11/2011 18:03

DS watches 15 mins of TV at preschool after lunch, and again after dinner. It gives them just a few mins to sit down and be calm and let their dinner go down, rather than legging it about the place like mad things (like they would be otherwise)

yeah toy story is what, rated 18v for all them nife attacks and monsters that are shown?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 17/11/2011 18:04

I wouldn't want him watching WHILE eating, after is fine IMO

JamieComeHome · 17/11/2011 18:04

I think the video's OK, but while eating, not so much.

I think an over-reliance on TV is a sign that a nursery is a bit devoid of ideas, but as long as they aren't watching more than about an hour a day, I wouldn't worry

catgirl1976 · 17/11/2011 18:04

She is in pre-school to learn. And learning how to behave specifically. Watching tv during meal times is not a good thing to learn.

VeryHungryKatypillar · 17/11/2011 18:05

She is 3 and a half. She does 3 days a week, but full days. They were definitely watching while eating. And yes, she does watch tv at home and probably more than an hour a day when its just me and her (and DD2).

tv with no "learning opportunities" - when did we turn into a society that had to ensure kids were havin "learning opportunities" every second of their lives... relax and let them relax too... And u know when they're older I'd also fight against the urge to only buy them educational toys and to schedule their entire lives

Megatron · 17/11/2011 18:05

Most nurseries & pre schools allow watching a DVD or something after meals to allow cleaning up and setting up, plus it's a 'down' time for the children. I would take issue if they were watching TV while they were eating though.

guzzlepuzzle · 17/11/2011 18:06

Stranded believe it or not while children are in pre school they are supposed to be offered with 100's of learning opportunities and have targets to meet before they go off to school. Crazy in some aspects but in practice its actually quite lovely ..not heavy and very fun .

ll31 · 17/11/2011 18:06

and just to add, when you're a pre schooler virtually everything is a learning opportunity!

gettingalifenow · 17/11/2011 18:06

By the time it gets to tea time (4pm? 5pm?) surely they're pretty tired after their day and will have had plenty of 'learning opportunities'.

I think CBeebies is made just for children so there must be people out there who think it IS something kids could watch.....
