THEN I heard on Daybreak breakfast television this morning, on a segment they were doing about fathers needing more support after their DPs/DWs have given birth, that Gordy dodged all four of his children's births because he was "scared it would ruin his relationship."

So in other words, he didn't want to be there in case the sight of his wife's fanjo looking less than pristine put him off having sex with her ever again. He is not a man, he is a child in a man's body. I am also judging his wife for allowing this type of bullshit to continue through four pregnancies. Fair enough, he doesn't want to go down the "business end" but what kind of man would refuse to be there to hold his wife's hand/brow mop/be an object to punch whilst she is giving birth to the child that HE helped create, just in case it ruined his desire for sexy times?

My guess is that if she wanted him there he would have been there, and this is just a story that he has concoted to keep his reputation unchanged.

Fine if they want to see their child born, but if you want decent support you need women.

I think there would be far less medical intervention in birth if the men sodded off down the pub and we all had a best friend/sister/mother/aunt/doula instead.

He didn't want to see the birth because he has got some peculiar ideas about what he imagines goes on down there, and a live demo to the contrary would make it impossible for him to still imagine it.

gobblers my OH was immensely helpful at the birth of all 3 kids. When things were getting a bit crazy he was v good at calming everything down. Not to mention keeping hold of the babies while I was getting stitched up.

Having seen what I went through he's also v admiring and when he annoys me I can play the 'remember what I went through delivering your children' to shut him up.

Throught my pregnancy, I was adamant that I didn't really want DH there (he's a notorious Mother Hen) However, I was induced and I clung on to him from the minute I had my first pill shoved up me flue.

He was a great support. I had mother dearest there too. I would have them both there again in a heartbeat if I had another child. DH provides cold flannels/Dextro Energey tablets like no other.

Due to cooking in hot kitchens he has low fertility and he has never changed a nappy.

My DH was lovely at the birth of our dcs, he constantly looked into my eyes to reassure me and was there when I had a GA to warm up our baby who needed resuscitating and warming up.

anonavfc you are a lucky lady. I have been at 11 births including those of my two children and while all men present were very lovely and all plainly adored their other halves and wanted to do their best, they were all as much practical use as a chocolate teapot.
