Aibu to not *get* coriander

It tastes like soap.

Leaf coriander that is. The ground stuff is relatively nice.

But the leaf stuff tastes like soap.

Why spoil a nice curry with a mouthful of soap.

Or the complete obsession with Carrot and Soup Soup

Or a sainsbury's fajita wrap.

It tastes like soap.

I have enough Spanish produce about to start a bloody supermarket. Can easily get Crema Catalana....mmmmmmmmmmmmm delicious stuff.

mousyfledermaus · 04/11/2011 07:46

goats cheese makes me gag. tastes like a goat smells.
some feta cheeses also contain goats milk which makes it inedible for me.
chorizo is another one I can't stand, vile rancid stuff.

tryingtoleave · 04/11/2011 08:01

I used to eat crema catalana ice cream in Barcelona

Cardamom is my most hated spice. I always leave it out of recipes. It's like medicine.

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/11/2011 14:04

Crema Catalana ice cream?

I have just thought of something else I dislike - fennel. Urgh.

whathellcall · 04/11/2011 14:06

I'm a coriander convert too, absolutely love it now.

Mayonnaise on the other hand is rancid, as is goats cheese, mustard and horse radish.

The worst though has to be that vile, dirty, disgusting concoction that is marie rose sauce. .

so late to this thread but I am right there with the OP and so pleased to have seen all the links people posted about it.

For years I've been made to feel like the world's fussiest eater because I hated coriander. It makes me gag to even smell it and if I eat it, it's like a combination of soap and metal all in one go. Ruins so many otherwise gorgeous meals.

Not sure if it's related, but I also cannot eat goats cheese without gagging and marzipan is equally vile.

Yet I LOVE marmite. I feel someone should do a big study on this. Grin

I have found over and over again that often coriander haters also hate goats cheese. It must have something to do with those pesky aldehydes...

There are so many food programmes on TV - I wish some of them would go into more depth about the chemistry of flavour...

mousyfledermaus · 04/11/2011 18:15

that is very interesting viva
I have seen the same with some friends.

Hmm, well, hmm, I know people (one person, actually) who hate goat's cheese but love coriander. And I know people (one person, obviously) who hate coriander and probably love goat's cheese

startail · 04/11/2011 18:20

YANBU I don't like it and DH, who likes most things, hates it. Pointless stuff!

schroeder · 04/11/2011 19:27

Interesting, dh likes coriander, but when taking a bite of my beefburger with goats cheese on it; exclaimed 'it tastes like soap'.

We need a proper, double blind, study on the coriander/goat's cheese connection. Grin

whathellcall · 04/11/2011 19:47

I love coriander, but think goats cheese tastes musty.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/11/2011 19:43

I am so-so about coriander, which apparently is odd.

I love eel though. And there is something so satisfying about wrenching the skin off the smoked ones - all the little spiny knobs and the skin makes a sort of velcro noise, and it's all very fun.

I suspect thinking this makes me weirder than the pus porn folk.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 05/11/2011 20:06

I don't like parsley unless it's mixed with coriander.
