Aibu to not *get* coriander

It tastes like soap.

Leaf coriander that is. The ground stuff is relatively nice.

But the leaf stuff tastes like soap.

Why spoil a nice curry with a mouthful of soap.

Or the complete obsession with Carrot and Soup Soup

Or a sainsbury's fajita wrap.

It tastes like soap.

I also hate avocado, but oddly I like guacamole. I only hate avocado when it is in slices or chunks. Yes, Pret, I'm looking you and your salad spoilage.

Eel sushi [vom]

Yes to the yoghurt - I always have some in for curry, and out of sheer habit lick my finger after emptying the pot. Yoghurt without tablespoons of sugar added is revolting.

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 03/11/2011 23:05

Anchovies are delicious. And capers. GetOrf - I have bought masses of anchovies back from Spain with me, and olives, capers etc etc.

Grin sandwich pus. You're wrong though

ColdSancerre · 03/11/2011 23:06

I love plain yoghurt.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:06

Those great big spanish anchovies are wonderful - they are huge, not like those ratty little things in tins you get in supermarkets.

I love the way that when you fry anchovues they just melt, and leave an essence of fishy saltiness.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:07

That Hellmann's ad says to put mayo in mashed potato.

The dirty bastards.

Civliz · 03/11/2011 23:07

Shop bough pesto is vile - home made is delish.

Civliz · 03/11/2011 23:07

Shop bought

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 03/11/2011 23:08

That's exactly what I have. Literally one packing box filled with Spanish stuff. And, yes, me too, the flavour is just a new dimension.

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 03/11/2011 23:09

Love anchovies, love capers- they're so ? savoury.

Avocado is eurgh, unless mashed up by myself with some red onion, red chilli, salt and a hefty squeeze of lime. Shop tubs won't cut it

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 23:09

I'm glad I'm not alone in my pesto hatred. Apparently, according to Nigella and many members of Mumsnet, all children love pesto. It's green, children tend to have an aversion to green, it has a strange texture and a strong flavour,so I can't understand why all children would love it,though I've no doubt that many do.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:12

I am very jealous of the spanish food.

Have you got any Crema Catalana? It is a wonderful liqueur, same consistency as baileys, but vanilla flavoured. It tastes like very potent and alcoholic ambrosia custard. I haven't been to Spain for years, it is my all time fave drink.

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 23:12

My favourite pizza is topped with anchovies, artichoke, capers and olives... Grin... its great because few people ever want to share it!

said · 03/11/2011 23:12

Pesto is vile and it's not socially acceptable to think so. People look at you funny when you go "Ewww" and assume that you're fussy about food!

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 23:13

Plain yoghurt is very nice, though I usually put a tablespoon of honey in it,but I can eat it without.

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 23:13

GetOrf , there is a shop on Portobello road that is a spanish supermarket, I am sure I saw that in there last week.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:13

Woo they sell Crema Catalana in the UK www.anybooze.com/melody-crema-catalana-liqueur-621-p.asp

But bloody HELL it is a fiver in Spain.

said · 03/11/2011 23:14

Hmm re Spanish food. That and Middle Eastern (or what I know of ME food) might well be my favourite cuisine

said · 03/11/2011 23:16

That just sounds like Advocaat

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:16

Ooh thanks squeaky - I am going to London in 2 weeks so will have a look. I have just looked ip up on google (R Garcia) so will email them to see if they have it in stock.

It is so delicious, I remember getting tanked on the stuff in a tapas bar on many occasions.

QuintessentialShadow · 03/11/2011 23:16

Just dont get coriander then, sorted!

ColdSancerre · 03/11/2011 23:18

Spanish food is my favourite, love brindisa at borough market for ingredients. A Spanish supermarket will have to be investigated.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 03/11/2011 23:21

I'm a coriander convert.

I used to hate it but something weird happened while I was pregnant and now no curry is complete without it.

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 23:22

I love tapas... we have a tapas night (mostly copied from my fave Lanzarote restaurants) at least once a week now rather than getting a chinese takeaway.
