Aibu to not *get* coriander

It tastes like soap.

Leaf coriander that is. The ground stuff is relatively nice.

But the leaf stuff tastes like soap.

Why spoil a nice curry with a mouthful of soap.

Or the complete obsession with Carrot and Soup Soup

Or a sainsbury's fajita wrap.

It tastes like soap.

Marzipan is indeed vile.

Goats cheese tastes like vomit,as does parmesan.

Tarragon is horrid.

I love seafood but oysters are vile, certainly raw. I've only had food poisoning once and that was from an oyster.I've never felt so ill.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 22:47

I will have to try broad beans the spanish way then.

If they taste like the monstrosities my gran cooked, I will come and hunt you down.

I love goats cheese as well - as greeneyes says, it's all goaty and cheesy.

I think Thai food is a bit meh. Too sweet and coconutty.

Baked beans - do you know that SOME PEOPLE put baked beans in a cottage pie? Shock

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 22:48

There is a compound in parmesan which is also present in vomit (I don't know if that's true, I just read it on mumsnet Grin) so I can imagine that some people think parmesan is vomitty.

But I love it.

TheAnnoyingOrange · 03/11/2011 22:49

I love red radishes - they taste earthy like you're eating soil..yummmyyyy..This is why I love coriander too. I love that "earthiness"

Civliz · 03/11/2011 22:51

As much as I love coriander, why don't you try a South Indian curry with some wonderfully smokey curry leaves, they are a joy.

And the goats cheese is a pain - I like it mature, I like it fresh but that in between stage with the bloom fills me with soapy dread - it is horrid.

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 22:51

It is true. It's called butyric acid, and is also present in papaya, which explains why it also tastes of vomit. I posted about that before, though I'm sure others have too.

SazZandASparkler · 03/11/2011 22:53

Honestly Getorf, you don't even need to do all the Spanish stuff (although sounds lovely). Fresh broad beans (Primrose Vale are good), steam them for 5-8 mins and then peel (or 'pop') them out of the tough outer skins and eat. delicious.

LOVE parmesan here too.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 22:54

I think it is in red bull as well, to me red bull tastes of the vomit you sick up after too much vodka.

Agree with the curry leaves - I often cook a goan curry with loads of curry leaves in, I forgot the curry leaves once and made the curry anyway, and it tasted completely different.

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 22:55

While I'm on the subject pesto is vile. It's like eating grass.

Hummus is also ghastly. It has a horrible fatty texture, and tastes like something the cat brought up.

ColdSancerre · 03/11/2011 22:55

I've never tasted red bull. It smells too vile to ever pass my lips.

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 22:55

Grin thanks for the link Sancerre, that thread is brilliantly mind-boggling...

I have posted my disgust at those vile potato based snacks!

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 03/11/2011 22:56

Cider must have the same thing because to me it smells like sick.

ViviPru · 03/11/2011 22:57

i love parmesan, in fact I love ALL cheese, but goats cheese is the one thing I cant get my head around how people like it. I hate coriander, but I appreciate its not to my taste and other people would like it, same with cumin. Its just the goats cheese - I just conclude that I have a sensitive palette and those who like it just aren't tasting it like I can.

I think I have inherited a sensitive palette from my Grandad - he based his career on his tasting ability

stickylittlefingers · 03/11/2011 22:57

Coriander = good. Had an amazing coriander and carrot soup last week. Very nearly licked out the bowl it was that good.

Goats Cheese = pukerama. Fatty and tastes like it was scraped off the floor of a stable.

Parmesan. Can be OK. We had a strange trolley service at work once which served parmesan sandwiches. Big slices of parmesan, like it was cheddar. Was disgusting (how could it not be?) and must have been bloody expensive to make. It's 18 months on and I'm still Hmming about it

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 22:58

Pesto is vile, but I don't know why, I love basil, pine nuts and parmesan, but smushed up together it tastes vile, and looks like something the cat sicks up when he has been eating grass.

I love love love houmouss and taramasalata - but NOT homemade. I made them both once (Nigella recipe, that may have been the problem) and they were vile. Shop bought, though - delicious. I can eat a whole tub of houmouss with my fingers a spoon. It's so bloody fattening though, I ate it for years thinking it was diet food. Hmm

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 22:58

Also guacamole is like eating green lard. Can't stand it either. And don't get me started on mayonnaise and coleslaw.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:00

Parmesan sandwiches sound ghastly.

I hate parmesan shavings. It is so poncey and WRONG. If you have a caesar salad in a restaurant, the parmesan should be grated, not shaved.

What do people think of anchovies and capers? I love them, they are so salty. I love puttanesca sauce - anchovies, olives, capers, chilli and tomato. yumyumyum.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:01

Avocado is revolting - you are right, the texture is that of lard. And guacomole is like pus.

Xmasbaby11 · 03/11/2011 23:01

I love it! But it has to be fresh, and added as serving.

Parsley, on the other hand ...

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 23:01

Anchovies are vile. Ditto capers.

Eel sushi is delicious though.

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 23:02

Freshly made guacamole is lovely.. but most shop bought ones are very different and rather vile.

Cottage cheese is another odd one... it is fine on its own on a nice dark ryvita.. but the thought of eating it in a curry is just yuk yuk yuk...

Xmasbaby11 · 03/11/2011 23:02

I reserve my hatred for mayonnaise. Or, as we call it, sandwich pus.

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 23:03

:) Hmmm this thread is making me realise that there are a few things I dont like... eel is another on my "tried once, never to be repeated" list. Jellied eels look disgusting and taste worse than they look.

said · 03/11/2011 23:03

Ditto plain yogurt. Cannot countenance putting it in my mouth in its naked form but can happily add to curry

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 23:03

URGH at cottage cheese.

I went on the dukan diet once. I did very well on the chicken breasts, until I had the bright idea of getting some cottage cheese. It had the texture of sheep brains and about the same taste. Vile. I was so distressed I had to eat a whole bag of cheesy doritos.
