Aibu to not *get* coriander

It tastes like soap.

Leaf coriander that is. The ground stuff is relatively nice.

But the leaf stuff tastes like soap.

Why spoil a nice curry with a mouthful of soap.

Or the complete obsession with Carrot and Soup Soup

Or a sainsbury's fajita wrap.

It tastes like soap.

Love cinnamon

Adore ginger in any form, especially stem ginger for puddings

Love marzipan and almondy flavours

Cannot stand raspberry, or any kind of aniseed flavour- tarragon, dill etc

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 22:24

P & G thread? :)

ColdSancerre · 03/11/2011 22:25

Tarragon is my favourite herb and raspberry is my favourite fruit. GreenEyes we're complete opposites.

squeakytoy · 03/11/2011 22:25

I dont know why I dislike dill... because I normally like anything that is aniseed flavour... (specially Pernod Grin ) .. but dill definately ruins a nice piece of smoked salmon!

Madhur Jaffrey's Grape Chutney uses dried ginger. I thought everyone knew that

Civliz · 03/11/2011 22:25

Coriander is the herb of the Gods, it's parsley that I can't abide it's like sprinkling grass cuttings on your dinner - yack!

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 22:26

Oh yes, ginger biscuits, that makes sense. I never bake so would never use it.

squeaky in curries I have to chop the ginger into minisclue proportions, as if dd gets a mouthful of ginger she hates it. I love it though.

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 03/11/2011 22:27

We are! I'm like you, in negative Grin

ColdSancerre · 03/11/2011 22:28

squeaky there's a bonkers poster defending proctor & gamble to the death yet claiming she isn't their PR. it's very odd.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 22:28

Grin at said.

Now I have heard people's visceral hatred, I feel even more sorry for my FIL. I chop great big handfuls of it and throw over the curry, Jamie Oliver stylee, so he must have loathed it if to him it tasted soapy.

Why didn't he bloody tell me!

ViviPru · 03/11/2011 22:34

Just reading this thread is making me want to GIP

And while we're on the subject - 2 words...

GOATS CHEESE

Popbiscuit · 03/11/2011 22:34

P&G is a bit like a cult.

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 03/11/2011 22:35

Coriander is used on just about everything I eat. Love it.

GetOrf I also hated broad beans with a passion until I was 38 and tried them cooked, as ColdSancerre says, in the Spanish way. Bit of finely sliced Spanish onion, some pata negra and a splash of chicken stock, double podded and they are food of Heaven.

Parsnips and baked beans, however, can fuck off to the bowels of Hell.

SazZandASparkler · 03/11/2011 22:35

Vivi - Goats cheese is the ONLY thing i would not be able to eat if the Queen served it up to me (this is my 'inedible' threshold)

Oysters would probably be next on the list.

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 03/11/2011 22:36

mmmmmmmmmmmmm oysters. Love them. And Goats cheese

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 03/11/2011 22:38

Goats cheese is lovely, it's so goaty and cheesy

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 03/11/2011 22:39

Eels is my thing. I couldn't eat eel.

Eel a la tarragon, with a raspberry dessert would finish me off

ColdSancerre · 03/11/2011 22:39

Mme parsnips. I hate baked beans and the vile sickly fake sweetness, but I love the actual beans (haricot) in casseroles.

ColdSancerre · 03/11/2011 22:40

Oh GreenEyes, we aren't opposites. I also feel sick at the thought of eels. In fact Autumnwatch was RUINED last week because the eel feature made me feel I'll.

ViviPru · 03/11/2011 22:41

Hear you Saz - last time I had - gip - oysters I had to as they were served up at a meal wit DPs Boss - I was violently ill. I now state them as an allergy. Funny cos I'd say shellfish is my favourite food.

Why do they ALWAYS serve up goats cheese as the veggie option at weddings? Like its some kind of generic inoffensive crowd-pleaser? On receipt of a wedding invite I now tell the host I'm allergic.

Popbiscuit · 03/11/2011 22:41

Do you come across eels often, Green Eyes? (agree, BTW...I'd gag)

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 22:41

I don't mind a little fresh coriander in a wrap, but I certainly wouldn't add handfuls of the stuff to a curry. It definitely has a slightly soapy taste.

I don't get Thai food. I hate it,and not just because of the amount of coriander they use. It's too fragrant, too hot and too sour, and it doesn't agree with my digestive system.

Love ginger and cinnamon though.

FontOfAllEvil · 03/11/2011 22:41

I detest parsley.

MotherMucca · 03/11/2011 22:43

Shocked, actually shocked at the coriander bullying on this thread.

A curry ain't a curry without HANDFULS of it.

Weirdos.

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 03/11/2011 22:45

No popbiscuit I have to say I don't Grin I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to eat an eel (except for occasional visits to cockney-land) but even so?
