Aibu to not *get* coriander

It tastes like soap.

Leaf coriander that is. The ground stuff is relatively nice.

But the leaf stuff tastes like soap.

Why spoil a nice curry with a mouthful of soap.

Or the complete obsession with Carrot and Soup Soup

Or a sainsbury's fajita wrap.

It tastes like soap.

I once got coriander as a substitute for parsley on an internet shop. never shopped with them again

Broad beans are lovely in Andalusia, when someone else makes the effort to pop them out of the tough skins and serve them warm, with tiny fried scraps of Serrano ham. Otherwise they're a bit rank.

I love it but have a foodie FIL who cannot stand it. I did wonder if the lovers also love and hate the same things but someone has just said they love coriander and marmite and that definitely isn't right

I love corriander, but HATE cinnamon, especially in sweet things like apple pie. I have on so many occasions joyfully accepted a scrummy piece of pie only to taste that awful stuff in the first spoonful, but due to looking initially so excited then had to sit and eat the whole lot whilst trying not to gag. It actually feels like an evil trick and makes me quite Angry.

I freaking love cilantro coriander. I think I have heard the soap-gene theory somewhere too. Actually it must be true because it's too delicious to possibly believe that someone could actually think it tastes like soap. to all the cilantro-soap mutants out there.

coldsancerre really recommend the Indian grocers. They also do great big naan breads which taste like homemade ones. Also, massive great big boxes of turkish delight. Ooh and violent tiny green chillis.

Everything is so cheap as well, i come out with bags of spices and veg etc, and it costs far less than far inferior stuff from sainsburys.

I love cinammon as well, always shove great big sticks of it in every curry I make. DON'T buy that from the Indian grocer, because it is cassia, and not teh same.

YANBU, another soap taster here. Out of interest do the fellow soapy folk also not like dill? Me and DH's niece both shudder at coriander and also find dill similarly vile (all other herbs, leaves etc are lovely scrummy things, but coriander and dill give me the heebies).

As I said, I love coriander, but hate dill. I also detest marmite, as I find it to be way too strong tasting.

I love nutmeg, cinnamon and most herbs and spices really... off the top of my head Dill is the only one I am not at all keen on and would avoid if it was in a dish.

I am also a pepper freak as well, and everything I eat is doused in some sort of pepper.

Weirdly I do like cinnamon in curry, but in desserts? It's just wrong, wrong, wrong, and why ruin a perfectly good bagel with the stuff?

no to cinnamon in a curry... in an apple pie or on top of a latte is lovely though..

I dont like anything sweet in a curry... cant stand it with sultanas in it... bleughhhh..

I hate dill. It's the only herb I don't like. And the only spice I can't bear is dried ginger. Vile. I hate gingerbread, crystallised ginger etc etc. I'll use fresh ginger if it isn't dominant in the dish. The only other person I've met who has the same attitude towards ginger is my mum, it's bizarrely popular. Like marzipan.

ahhh ginger... thats the other one I dont like if I can taste it... so long as it isnt overpowering I can cope with it.

Marzipan is ok though..

The one thing I think I hate the most in the world though.....pringles. Vile, soggy, disgusting and just the thought of them makes me feel a bit sick.. lol!

I don't think I have ever used dried ginger in a recipe - what would you use it in?

Fresh ginger is great, as it that stuff in syrup which you put in rhubrab crumbles.

dried/ground ginger goes in biscuit recipes, cake recipes..

I have used fresh when doing curries but really dont like the taste of it if I get a bit in my mouth. I can eat the dish with the slight taste but not eat the ginger itself.
