to worry that my child's name is becoming a bit common?

when she was born it was unusual and didn't feature in any top 100 names.

In the last week alone, I have met 3 babies that will be called this name. There will be hundreds of them all over the place. My child will no longer stand out and be unusual and unique.

Obviously there is bugger all I can do about this. It is still a nice name and I generally approve of people using it but it is turning into something a bit common.

YABU. Aren't there soon to be 7 billion people? It's a bit difficult to have a unique name with that many about.

Your son will still be a unique version of his name.

sharenicely · 27/10/2011 12:06

WHat's the name?

KlickKlackknobsac · 27/10/2011 12:07

happens to us all- just shows that you are 'of your time'. It could just be a coincidence.
If it was out of top 100 then it can't be that common.
It will surely never become the tracey, sharon or sophie of the future?

Thingumy · 27/10/2011 12:08

And?

My daughter had a very unusual name 16 years ago but it's become fairly common nowadays.

We don't own the sole rights to names,so you'll have to just deal with it.

Yabu.

PrincessScrumpy · 27/10/2011 12:08

YANBU but probably a bit ott. I am frustrated that we called dtd2 Kitty and now I find myself apologising to my baby because of XFactor - mind you I doubt anyone will name their child after her as she's quite mad - fingers crossed.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 27/10/2011 12:08

" I generally approve of people using it "

Do you? That's big of you Hmm Should have taken out a patent if you wanted your kid to be unique. Get over yourself....

HazleNutt · 27/10/2011 12:08

I have a quite unique name. It's a total pain, I always have to spell it and people still get it wrong and nobody remembers it. Common is good.

loveglove · 27/10/2011 12:09

My next is going to be called "battlecat"

porcamiseria · 27/10/2011 12:09

call her Hilda instead!!!

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 27/10/2011 12:10

I agree Hazle Regardless of how many times I spell my name people still get it wrong. Its a total PITA - wish my mum had called me something 'easy'

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 27/10/2011 12:11

Would it be U to suggest she might like to change it? I'm wondering if it may hold her back in her future chosen career as ruler of the world.?

OP posts:
ZombiesAteYourCervix · 27/10/2011 12:12

it is easily spellable though. so maybe she should keep it.

or choose something so unusual there aren't any others at all ever.

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 27/10/2011 12:13

can you tell I am desperately bored today to be wondering these things? I am avoiding real ishoos by pondering the ridiculous ones.

What's the name?!

seeker · 27/10/2011 12:14

15 years ago, I named my daughter something classic but very unusual. It raised a few eyebrows and there were loads of "oh, how unusual" comments. At the same time, my brother named his baby a similar sort of boy's name.

Th names? Grace and Oscar!

crunchbag · 27/10/2011 12:15

Maybe you could change her name to just a symbol

Trills · 27/10/2011 12:15

YABU to be worried about it.

You are clearly a trendsetter. Or something.

AbsolutelyBloodySpiffing · 27/10/2011 12:15

What's the name?

I thought my ds name was unusual, wasn't in the top 100 it's not edging into the top 20 and I know lots of little boys who have been born recently named the same.
I still would have named him the same though.
Dd on the other hand is not that unusual but she was only 1 of 3 little girls with that name the year she was born.
(I was a geek looking on ONS website).

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 27/10/2011 12:16

Aren't you a MW though Cervix? Surely that means you meet far more babies than most, so you're bound to come across other children with your dd's name.

Iggly · 27/10/2011 12:17

YABU

It's not her name that will make her unique, it's her. Her persona/personality etc.

perceptionreality · 27/10/2011 12:17

You can't control it. Why is it so important anyway? I used to try to get names that where not in the top 100 but my dds 2 and 3 have names that are because I thought the most important thing was for them to have a name that suited them.

Ciske · 27/10/2011 12:17

If its getting very popular it must be a very good name... that's how I would look upon it. Wink

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 27/10/2011 12:17

ahead of my time and very cool and edgy.

DD2 was going to be Oscar but turned out to be a girl instead. Similar ilk though.

She was also unusual but now there are millions but she is a different shortning version of which there are few.
