to think Ricky Gervais is a twat of the highest order

Talking point on the Wright stuff just now, RG claiming that he is doing nothing wrong by using the word "mong" in his comedy and it merely means a stupid person now rather than Downs Syndrome. I was no big fan of his before but now I actively loathe the smug cunt.

'maybe as he hasnt got kids he can make up jokes about them in a way a mum/dad wouldnt?'

Civillised people don't have to have experienced something first-hand in order to have a moral code that excludes 'jokes' about the vulnerable or victimised in society.
Much like I don't make rape jokes, although I've never been raped.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 22/10/2011 09:34

Visions of Ailsa clanking at me 'woooooooooooooooooo youoooo should have made it clearer you were talking about Ricky Gervais noooooooottttt my Alf. oooooooooooooooo. Now I will eat your eyes'.

I wish I twittered, I would go and say nice things to Richard Herring.

RebelFromTheWaistDown · 22/10/2011 09:35

I find Ricky Gervais neither offensive nor funny.

I think he is a bit of a cunt.

sickofsocalledexperts · 22/10/2011 10:04

I think Ricky has pretty much admitted he was a cunt now - on Twitter and now quoted in several newspapers today. Says he didn't realise there were still some wankers out there who used the word 'mong' to abuse disabled people, and that he would never use it like that and realises now he shouldn't be using the word.

Sevenfoldedbloodybodies · 22/10/2011 10:09

oh come on, he is just buck passing

NormanTebbit · 22/10/2011 10:10

Ricky should stick with his pals in LA

seeker · 22/10/2011 10:17

"here's a linkto Richard Herring's blog. His Tuesday and Wednesday entries are very insightful on this. Andninreckon he could do with a bit of support. Brave for a jobbing comedian to take on anyone asnpoweful as RG.

Oh, and the genius involved in The Office was Stephen Merchant."

I thought I'd c and p the link to Richard Herring -it seems a bit unfair that RG should get all the publicity!

sickofsocalledexperts · 22/10/2011 10:37

I think that Ricky must lead a very fortunate and sheltered life - with no kids, champagne on tap and a mansion in Hampstead - and perhaps that's why he hasn't heard teenagers shouting 'mong' and 'retard' at the learning disabled child or adult at our nation's bus stops. Richard Herring was indeed brave to stand up to the 'comedy might' of Gervais, and took one hell of a lot of abuse from bigoted Gervais fans. He is running a half marathon for Scope too which loads of people on Twitter (there are some nice ones there too) gave money to, as thanks to him for standing up for the disabled.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 22/10/2011 10:42

Quite right seeker here

Apparently RG is using 'twong' now, which of course cannot be offensive because he made it up himself. It is a new word with no history so cannot offend. Its similarity to twat, mong or even, at a push, wrong does not cause any upset at all.

Hopefully he will dig himself into a pit so deep he will disappear altogether.

Hungrydragon · 22/10/2011 11:05

Sue....wasn't digging at you, just the people who went "ahaaa I can pretend it's a word for another country and therefore means something entirely different when I use it.

Hungrydragon · 22/10/2011 11:06

'co I luffs you Sue, I do

Pagwatch · 22/10/2011 11:06

He is just insufferable.

He continues to sneer at anyone who has questioned his behaviour. Back tracked massively when faced with a mother of, you know, an actual child but continues to roll his eyes and virtually elbow in the ribs his mates and suck ups on Twitter.

You would have thought that a bloke claiming to be so smart and so upset that anyone would use mong to mean disabled would not be content when 'fans' post 'hey Ricky you are a God of the planet Mongoid'. But no . That is just dandy.
He is simultaneously sucking up to disability groups whilst chortling with his mates that mong really is funny.

BupcakesandHaunting · 22/10/2011 11:12

Sue, do remember when Bobby came out of the fridge at Ailsa, when Ailsa was having a breakdown?

Well, Ailsa is going to do that to you. Tonight.

Wh0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0ooooo!

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 22/10/2011 11:24

Bobby was lovely wasn't she? In a lovely little weirdo kind of way.

What was Lance's mate called, with the Pat Sharpe hair? And what are lambingtons?

BupcakesandHaunting · 22/10/2011 11:32

I think it was Martin.

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 22/10/2011 11:34

Yes it was, Lance and Martin. Thanks

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 22/10/2011 12:03

Feck off Bups. I'm getting into your bed at 2am then, if I wake up with the screaming abbers. You'll be sorry.

I know Hungry, I am not thinking you did ducks

Lambingtons (lammingtons?) are baked goods, no? Like Anzac biscuits.

PosiesOfPoison · 22/10/2011 12:36

fantastic Robin Ince blog about it all

Morloth · 22/10/2011 12:41

I am Australian and am in Australia and have never heard anyone ever use the word 'mong' for 'mongrel'. Don't put this on us.

Only ever heard it used by very stupid people who used it interchangeably with 'spaz' etc.

RG is a twat.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 22/10/2011 12:47

Grin is that directed at me Morloth? I have explained, the first part of my post saying that Alf from H&A said 'flaming mongrel' was a joke. The second part saying 'he meant it to be offensive' etc - the 'he' was RG. Not Alf. Never Alf.

I did not make it clear, I accept that. I also accept that Ailsa is out for my blood now to drink.

Hungrydragon · 22/10/2011 13:35

I think Morloth is also defending Australia from the Urban Dictionary, Sue and twats who think it is definitive.

Although we can blame Morloth personally for leamingtons - why ruin a perfectly good cake with dessicated coconut? And the last 10 years of Neighbours which have been shit.

Wink
saintlyjimjams · 22/10/2011 13:43

He didn't realise that the word mong was still used in an abusive way? Right.
Is he so surrounded by sycophants these days that he believes the public will believe any old bollocks he comes out with?

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 22/10/2011 14:30

YY. I remember Neighbours when it was all field and Mrs Mangle.
I saw the Neighbours board game in a charity shop and didn't buy it, as I don't know anyone sad enough to play it with me. If I do buy it, will you come round Hungrydragon?

Hungrydragon · 22/10/2011 14:37

yeah ..... do you remember the Bouncers dream episode? Classic.

SpringHeeledJack · 22/10/2011 17:48

I had a friend once whose benchmark for an acceptable job was one that would "get me home in time for Neighbours"

tis shit now, of course
