Talking point on the Wright stuff just now, RG claiming that he is doing nothing wrong by using the word "mong" in his comedy and it merely means a stupid person now rather than Downs Syndrome. I was no big fan of his before but now I actively loathe the smug cunt.

OP posts:

I liked RG in Stardust and in Ghost Town and I now realise why.

He was reading/acting a script written by someone else.

Lemonylemon · 22/10/2011 21:03

Twong? Twong? What a twat. Yes, get out of that one if you can Mr Gervais. I was right. I am right. You didn't fool me for one minute. I'm nearly as old as you are and I'm not stupid.....

I don't swear on here much, but RG, just fuck off, you're not funny....

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 22/10/2011 21:22

Oh, I meant to come back to this earlier. He has a new show out in a fortnight, with another undercurrent of a whisper of a disability theme - like Extras and The Office. Do we think he's discovered Twitter and controversial language as a promotional tool? Surely not. Hmm

Looking at his tweets though, he sure does mention it a lot.....

LetSamSeeHisDad · 22/10/2011 23:24

Ricky G... Is a total Plonker... As his 'media' image shows... He is working for the lower middle market, who think they are clever, intelligent...

PeneloPeePitstop · 23/10/2011 00:03

Since when can mong (pronounced like bong) be a shortened version of the word mongrel which is a mung sound?

So that's shot that one out of the water.

Ricky Gervais for example is a cunt.

And I really don't use that word.

FrankNCock · 23/10/2011 10:44

I don't buy the 'oh I didn't know people still used it to abuse disabled people'. Tons of people told him that straight away and he carried on for days. He finally realised he wasn't getting away with it and had to backtrack. Tosser.

Dexifehatz · 23/10/2011 23:04

An Australian accent does make the word 'mongrel' sound like 'mong-rel' but i still think this 'explanation' is very tenuous.

A1980 · 24/10/2011 00:55

I had never ever heard the word "mong" before...

Don't get the fuss. if you called me a mong before his high profile use of it, I'd have no clue what you meant.

milkmilklemonade · 24/10/2011 09:30

Seriously, are you really getting in such a state about this? have you any idea what is going on out there in the world???

NewChoos · 24/10/2011 09:32

I think he's very funny. All comedians have 'taste' issues at times though imo.

FanjoForTheMuahahammaries · 24/10/2011 09:48

milkmilklemonade - just because horrible things are happening in the world doesn't mean we can't object to things which are offensive towards our own children, what a facile argument.

Sevenfoldedbloodybodies · 24/10/2011 09:50

milkmilklemonade perhaps if you had a child that had been bullied or worse you might understand.
why are there always twats that post crap like that?

milkmilklemonade · 24/10/2011 09:52

It's hardly crime of the century is it. Ever seen Inbetweeners?

milkmilklemonade · 24/10/2011 09:53

Why are there always twitchy idiots who always resort to calling people names when they don't 100% totally agree with them. Don't start on me, save it for someone who cares.

Sevenfoldedbloodybodies · 24/10/2011 09:53

did you not see the press about disabled people being driven to their deaths?

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 24/10/2011 09:54

You're so right milkmilklemonade, let's not challenge any prejudice or discrimination in case someone, somewhere is having a bigger problem. What a clever and well reasoned argument as usual.

DownbytheRiverside · 24/10/2011 09:54

'Seriously, are you really getting in such a state about this? have you any idea what is going on out there in the world???'

Of course we do, what a dimwitted question. People are being taunted and pushed to suicide by the mocking and disablist language of others. And when a fool with some sort of popularist appeal adopts that attitude, the attacks increase as they are validated by the 'star'
Or perhaps it isn't part of your world view?

DownbytheRiverside · 24/10/2011 09:55

Well, your name reminds me of a puerile playground chant milkmilk, so I assume your SOH matches.

milkmilklemonade · 24/10/2011 09:57

Ricky Gervaise didn't taunt anyone ffs.

FanjoForTheMuahahammaries · 24/10/2011 09:57

"Why are there always twitchy idiots who always resort to calling people names

Oh the hypocrisy (look it up MML)

saintlyjimjams · 24/10/2011 10:16

Yes I know what is going on in the world of learning disabilities. Do you? My sos is the receipt of some sort of comment most times he sets foot outside his own front door. A lot of work has been done by those working with people with learning disabilities to try to make comments such as mong unacceptable. RG had the potential to push that back years with his thoughtless use and then misguided defence of the word mong.

I am pleased to see that even if it isn't the most sincere apology in the world he has apologised and has engaged in conversation with the mother who broke down on Jeremy Vine last week. She didn't break down because she's fragile, more because she's deeply hurt by her children being called names all the time through no fault of their own.

These names damage others as well. The last thing ds2 and ds3 is to be the receipt of names for having a brother who is learning disabled. It's why it's so important than people like RG make it clear that it's unacceptable to sling names at those with LD's. It's a bloody cheap shot.

RedHelenB · 24/10/2011 10:25

I find it a bit weird to "save" the word gay for homosexuals when it's original meaning was happy!!

Rosa · 24/10/2011 10:32

I have yet to laugh from anything he has done......
