I love this forum so much , I wrote an entire routine about it . Would you like to see / hear it ?

OP posts:
TheScaryJessie · 14/10/2011 11:08

Acksurly, does anyone on here wear Boden. I recently (well, last month) obtained a Boden catalogue, and I'm still in shock at the prices. (And the I'm-so-quirky comments printed on each spread.)

Mumsnets is mainly competitive poverty. Surely no-one here can spend £70 on a cardi?

JeremyVile · 14/10/2011 11:09

Arf @ all the critiquing an helpful pointers.

I'm sure Op is frantiaclly scribbling down all the advice on being a comedian from a load of random posters on Mumsnet.

MrBloomsNursery · 14/10/2011 11:09

Grin.....I wonder if those are real people laughing or just recorded?

HayleySexiWeestains · 14/10/2011 11:09

Grin i thought it was really good!
Have seen you live before I think, you did a very funny routine about the last supper and facebook IIRC.

HerScaryness · 14/10/2011 11:10

Great! Good show!

you are CLEARLY a mumsnetter!

Off to hide my 4x4, rammed to bursting with waitrose bag of pinot grigio.

PS - you forgot NAICE HAM!

AitchTwoOh · 14/10/2011 11:11

haha, vg!

ElaineReese · 14/10/2011 11:13

'comedienne' is the sort of word the Daily Mail would use to preface 'Jo Brand', probably prefaced itself by 'outsized' or 'hefty'. And then they'd refer to her as 'Miss Brand' through the rest of the article.

I can't imagine that anyone who uses 'comedienne' is funny, but I can't listen to it at work anyway, so maybe I'm wrong.

LingDiLong · 14/10/2011 11:15

Ha, that was really, very funny. I'm going to keep an eye out for Mary Burke and see if I can catch her live.

I don't think for a single second she posted this mind, I reckon some pissed off husband has posted it in an attempt to get everyone's backs up.

Shakey1500 · 14/10/2011 11:15

jeremyvile just picking up on your post about how the phrase AIBU is pronounced individually. Tis possible that the emphasis can be put on any of the words

In MY head it's - Am I being unreasonable? Though not as slowly pronounced as in OP's clip Grin and not nearly as dulcet a tone

fedupofnamechanging · 14/10/2011 11:15

useless, I'm not annoyed by it, but I do think it wasn't that funny. There is so much you could do with all the potential material which exists on this site and I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't funnier.

I think the OP does herself a disservice by buying into the media representation, rather than working that bit harder and going for a more accurate portrayal.

I think that in posting the link, she wanted opinions that may be helpful to her in the development of her routine. If not, then she will disregard the negative opinions. Not everyone has the same sense of humour.

ssd · 14/10/2011 11:16

scaryjessie, christ everyone here seems to wear minging boden
there was a thread a while ago about someone asking where to get clothes for a 10 yr old boy, most answers were "well i used to always buy boden so we've exhausted that route"

what are these peple sending their kids out like?

spiderlight · 14/10/2011 11:16

:o

NoseyNooNoo · 14/10/2011 11:16

I thought it more interesting that the laughter was increasingly from men. They most probably haven't read the site so don't get the in-jokes so it felt to me that they were just laughing at mums.

I did like the use of the AIBU though.

JeremyVile · 14/10/2011 11:16

I agree (and not to take anything away from Op) that real, actual MNers make me cry with laughter on a fairly regular basis, moreso than any comedian I can think of.

Latest was ShirleyKnot's vociferous appreciation of Dan Lobb.

"I'm serious. I would do some nasty fucking shit to him."

MmeLindor. · 14/10/2011 11:18

Shakey/Jeremy
I met a MNetter who pronounced AIBU .... aye-boo

TheScaryJessie · 14/10/2011 11:18

"Comedienne" immediately signals "female and therefore allowed to make fun of mumsnet".

If it was "Comic" I think some people would think "another bloke making lazy, sexist jokes about women" and wouldn't click.

WilsonFrickett · 14/10/2011 11:19

I remember Rastamouse threads. They were being... Unreasonable.

[hgrin]

piratecaaaaaaaaaghhht · 14/10/2011 11:20

lol, yanbu.

highlighted the very best/worst of mn.

You could get alot of material from here. funny.

Animation · 14/10/2011 11:21

[hgrin]

You're very good!!

ElderberrySyrup · 14/10/2011 11:21

there were bits that were funny (obv she is a talented comedian; I liked the chardonnay soaked self-pity and the use of the words AIBU) but agree about the low-hanging fruit of media stereotypes rather than any original observation.

It's just too easy to get a laugh out of blokes by pandering to the prevalent anti-mummy stereotypes. A woman building her career by encouraging a largely male audience to laugh at other women is something that makes me a bit sad.

worraliberty · 14/10/2011 11:22

Love it hahaha!! Grin

TheScaryJessie · 14/10/2011 11:22

ssd

They do? No wonder they can't afford cheesestrings feel poor at the end of the month!

That said, I did feel tempted to buy a toddler size Boden jacket in the NCT sale. It was so thick and warm-looking.

LEMONAIDE · 14/10/2011 11:24

Oh I think you have something here but there is WAAAAAY more material isnt there (like the grammar pedants LOL) I know I quite often go off and snort about things people have said in all seriousness. I liked the ranty bit at the end!

Lets be clear though this is about the WORST parts of Mumsnet, the good aspects just wouldnt be funny!

HeadlessLamAAARRRGHHHH · 14/10/2011 11:25

CuriousMama Can't believe so many blokes are getting it

Men do get comedy you know. Fwiw I thought it was alright. The Albanian nanny was the best bit. More as opposed to belly laugh. Decent effort though. Smile
