So, Sunday lunch at a friend's yesterday. A couple that we know slightly are also invited. The woman who is very bright and very pleasant for the first hour, drinks so much that she is literally unable to speak (but doesn't stop trying), and we all carry on with lunch pretending that everything is normal and not laughing where she can see.

Is this normal? In any way?

But thanks for popping by to tell me that, TSC. V thoughtful.

I'm just a potato
People stop and stare
(potato)
Why do they have to care?
(potato)
Is it cause I'm just a spud
Or is it cause I'm nooooo good?

Lyric from MrPotatoHed on YouTube, Preston's premier punk rock band. They played at my wedding.

I'm wearing 4 sequins. I'll let you figure out where.

Hullygully · 10/10/2011 17:41

Rhubs, you is just class, gel.

BupcakesandHaunting · 10/10/2011 17:46

Hully can you shift to the right a bit? Only I'm having a bit of trouble kissing your arse.

TheRhubarb · 10/10/2011 17:46

Nope, on all 4 of my minges.

Right, off to make burgers in a bun. Which also look a bit like minges. Well mine do anyway. And don't even mention the tomato ketchup - urgh!

TSC I think we're just all a bit fed up with the rude, ill-mannered posters who misconstrue everything that is said and make you out to be things that you are clearly not. It's happening quite a lot.

Hullygully · 10/10/2011 17:47

I'll lift me cheek a bit, just let me get the hoist in position.

I'm a bit fed up with you repeatedly saying anyone disagreeing with an OP is rude Rhubarb0.

'OP, stop being a fucking cunt' - rude.

'I disagree with you OP because...' - not rude.

Unless I'm wrong and it's not disagreeing with an OP you're talking about, but just this OP?

BupcakesandHaunting · 10/10/2011 17:55

It's not being pulled as an excuse. It's people that know her well and can more appropriately judge whether she is being misconstrued or not. I don't know Hully amazingly well but I think she has been misunderstood.

Personally, I think it's more embarrassing to carry on like a dog with a bone over nothing, actually.

SuePurblybilt · 10/10/2011 17:56

Who said that TSC - genuine question, not being sarky? I get what you're saying but I can't find where that happened here.

Hullygully · 10/10/2011 17:57

goodness me. there's no need for all this.

I don't mind disagreement, never have, never will. Was a bit bemused at the reactions of some posters and their slightly unpleasant posts (unwarranted in my view). Others felt the same and pointed it out, as would I.

It's not more than that. Let's not turn it into some mad row.

OP posts:
BupcakesandHaunting · 10/10/2011 17:59

I think that TSC is on about Rhubarb's post from earlier:

"It's not on to presume that people are alcoholics.
Nor is it on to presume that those who find their drunken antics funny are all uncaring and selfish bastards. Hully has had her own experiences and is actually a very caring Mumsnetter, which is why she has so many people coming to her defence, because she is well thought of and has helped many other people with her sound advice."

BupcakesandHaunting · 10/10/2011 18:00

Can we please get back to Lobb and Lesbians anyway?

SuePurblybilt · 10/10/2011 18:15

I always think the MN Royalty thing is a bit of a non-argument actually, as some posters seem to attract negative comments because of who they are. I've seen people be ruder to well-known posters than they would to newbies, imo, seemingly to prove that they weren't cliquey. I reckon it balances out overall, the arse-licking and the begrudgers.

So, lesbian Travel-lodges. Hot tub or sauna?

ScarahStratton · 10/10/2011 18:22

I have PM'd filly and said I will buy her Xmas Meet ticket. Prepare to be Strattoned. Grin

BupcakesandHaunting · 10/10/2011 18:27

Are you going, Stratters?! Right that's it.

Hungrydragon · 10/10/2011 18:27

Snorbs

I very very good friend of mine was in your situation. I don't know how many times we had to get her home, kicking, biting and scratching.

I appreciate peoples views that we should be sensitive to their problem, but they are not quietly suffering a disease like cancer, they are affecting everyone who chooses to be in the vicinity of drink.

Do we suggest prohibition?

This guy had stopped loving her a long time ago, but still had to care for her, till he finally just upped left, changed jobs and moved. This was 5 years ago, she has lost repeated jobs, various HR departments in companies and friends have tried to intervene. She is now with a partner exactly like the one in the op and that Kungfu describes, just a silent presence.

At the end of the day, they don't care whether you laugh, cry or shout at them.

Like Hully I am flippant when I refer to my own issues with this, I will not post about them on Mnet because I deal with my own devils without voyeurs, but I will say better to laugh than to scream in their face "fuck you and the pain your causing"

Now if you no one minds I need to go and get some extra twattery in to make up for this post. Put Panda and Snorbs tugged at my weebly bits.

SuePurblybilt · 10/10/2011 18:29

Pinot, we'll have our own online meet-up with snogs just like every day really.

PinotScreechio · 10/10/2011 18:30

Yeah we will Sjue and it'll be FUN. With WINE. And COMFY CLOTHES.

SuePurblybilt · 10/10/2011 18:34

COMFY CLOTHES with egg on them and typing just in our pants? That's a party.

PinotScreechio · 10/10/2011 18:36

Oh and sorry I bypassed the extra-nipple talk earlier - it's underneath his left nipple, about 6" down. It's small but with a definite areola and hair . It's a lot bit boaky imo but he's proud as Scaramanga, Chandler Bing and Krusty the Clown from The Simpsons also have one Hmm
