To think Waiterose is for posh people?

I was a bit Hmm to see the medium sized Waiterose near me sells 12 types of humus. I take it their regular customers would be upset if there were only 8 types of humus to dip their free range organic corn chips into.

They do have a range of 'budget' products: their "essential" range. It includes humus! I think humus is OK but I'm not entirely sure if it's "essential".

YABU. There's a Waitrose in Colchester and there aren't any posh people there.

I adore Waitrose, but even I baulked at paying £9.99 for a packet of herbal tea bags.

I couldn't believe it. I asked an assistant to check the price, and when it turned out to be correct, asked her to explain why they were so expensive.

She just shrugged. She looked as bewildered as I was.

They still bother me, those tea bags.

rockinastocking · 24/09/2011 18:00

here, look!

TheOriginalFAB · 24/09/2011 18:03

I'm not keen on baked beans either but love houmous. Give it a try.

Have we set a record for the most different ways to spell hummmus yet?

My kids absolutely love Waitrose fish fingers.

GeorgeEliot · 24/09/2011 19:23

Agree with the poster who said only homemade hummus is worth having.

Although there is one non-supermarket brand from middle east which is pretty good too.

I love Waitrose.

ednurse · 24/09/2011 19:25

Counted 15 different hummuses in my Tesco today...

Housewife2010 · 24/09/2011 20:27

Waitrose is for people who can spell.

Pedallleur · 24/09/2011 20:58

Great stores selling lovely food but ridiculously overpriced imo. Some great markdowns in the evening tho'. Cheese counter always has some lovely artisan cheeses.

TiggyD · 24/09/2011 21:13

I think the plural is "Hummi".

That particular box of teabags costs about that at Tescos - don't know why I think they are vile but DSis likes them so dutifully forked out for her rare visits

SpeedyGonzalez · 25/09/2011 01:50

I shop at Waitrose for ethical reasons. For one thing they're generally kinder to their suppliers. It's definitely pricier, but then we used to waste lots of food, so nowadays we buy less, waste less, and pay the same as in our pre-Waitrose days.

Oh, and we're not posh, no sirree bob!

twinklytroll · 25/09/2011 22:54

I agree speedy. I have friends who are farmers who have been given a lifeline by Waitrose.

hmc · 26/09/2011 10:46

Quite pleased that Speedy and twinkly have validated Waitrose shopping habits Smile

SpeedyGonzalez · 26/09/2011 19:51

Wow, twinkly, that's really encouraging to hear! Grin
